And obviously a student of the game. If he doesn't acquire a case of receiver diva-itis, we could be talking about an all timer. Reminds me a little of Steve Smith Sr.
I bet my best man, a huge Bills fan, that OBJ would have a better
season statistically than Sammy Watkins. Best 2/3: Yards, Receptions, Touchdowns. (Starting Week 6). Loser has to buy a top bottle of wine of the winner's choosing.
Since I saw him as a Freshman tearing it up. He always seemed special in college. His skillset actually reminds me a lot of Jerry Rice, just a YAC machine who can also make plays over the top with ease. I don't make the Rice comp lightly.
But Beckham might be the more impressive overall athlete. He tested better at the combine and clearly has a quickness edge. He also has more toughness/physicality than I expected.
I think his physicality is what I'm most surprised by. I never really bought the Steve Smith Sr. comparisons. Smith just always had this unique swagger and toughness. Well, Beckham doesn't quite have the strength of SS but he does play tough in traffic and has a ton of passion like SS.
Awesome WR class. I think these 2 are 1-2. Watkins still #1 but Beckham closing the gap. Probably Evans over Benjamin though for 3-4. And plenty of depth beyond them.
From the Phins has only gotten better each game and plays with a passion I would love see more of from our teams players. He has almost taken over the #1 WR position on the Phins in his 1st year. I was shocked when we took him in the 2nd round but he has made that pick look like highway robbery. He came into the league with less physical skills than RR but he brings excitement to the game anytime he has his hands on the ball. This is another reason why I wonder why our draft picks can never get on the field due to the learning curve which always explains why?
(and they mention it), is that everything looks so natural for him - effortless. He makes the difficult catches look so easy. And, you have to remember that the kid basically missed the ENTIRE off-season from OTAs all the way through training camp and the pre-season. Typically rookies who miss all of that time are useless and their rookie seasons are a waste.
the Giants get a big WR to play opposite of him. Eli needs his plaxico to go with his Toomer so to speak. Right now we have a lot of WR's who are generally the same size and our only big WR never sees the field.
Before we anoint Beckham the best we may want to look at Kelvin Benjamin, Mike Evans and a few others who are really producing as well. As someone already mentioned, Nicks looked great too and then faded pretty quickly due to injury and potentially attitude.
If the Giants want to fix the offense, besides Oline which is need 1, we must get one BIG WR or develop one on roster already and another TE who can be the Blocker and receiver. Size is inmportant for a QB who tends to throw a LOT of passes high.
but he has a long way to go before he can be an All time great and hold the Giant receiving marks. I think some here are really getting carried away.
This was a great class, but 96 was better.
I'm a Watkins guy, been watching him since freshman year at Clemson, but Beckum is going to be just as good it appears.
IF Cruz comes back and is 90% or more, between the 2 of them, it will be very rough on defenses to stop them. Beckham has shown he can easily be a deep threat. The 2 receivers should be able to open up the running game should defenders respect Cruz/Beckham.
When he leaves New York. Right now it looks like his QB won't have time to throw it to him.. And forget about a running game to keep a defense in check..
But, with all the really superior WR talent available in that draft, I still wish that we'd have chosen either Martin or Donald and gone for a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.
I am feeling confident.

1996. And those guys played when the rules weren't catered to the passing game.

Let that be a lesson to you, kids.
Never believe in anything.
Plus he seems, at this point, to have his head on straight. Let's hope that continues...

Remember the JPP LT comparisons?
Some even called him a bigger LT.
