Fewell: Chykie Brown to see plenty of Dez Bryant

CromartiesKid21 : 11/21/2014 9:15 am
Too early to start cringing about another humiliating national primetime game in the making?
Quote:
The Giants don't plan to use Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in shadow coverage on Dez Bryant.
DRC has been unable to play every defensive snap in recent weeks because of an IT band injury that is affecting his back, leg, and hamstring. Giants DC Perry Fewell mentions CB Chykie Brown, who was plucked off waivers from the Ravens, as a candidate to see extended snaps vs. Bryant on Sunday night.

Quote:
"I am very confident in Chykie Brown," Fewell said. "He has come in and he has done a nice job for us in the couple of weeks he has been here. Very good student in the class room, does it with a smile, loves the challenge. I am very encouraged by what I see from him."

signed 16 days ago, got 30 snaps on Sunday to 20 for Jayron Hosley in that game, despite Hosley being on the team for 3 years and Brown having been outright released by the Ravens because their pass defense stunk.

You can't make it up.
Don't know much about him
JonC : 11/21/2014 9:18 am : link
but Ravens normally find very good CBs, and Brown was very active and around the football last week. This defense needs energy and he was one player who brought some.

^This. And as somebody else noted, PFF gives him a -4.6 grade. Hosley at this point is just a body. He wouldn't even be on the roster absent injuries to Thurmond, McBride, and Prince.

Because the coaching staff is trying to "manage him" through the games because of his nagging injuries that have taken him out of different segments during the course of the game.

Read the OP.
The opinion of Brown that
Pete in MD : 11/21/2014 9:30 am : link
I've heard on local Baltimore sporstalk radio is the he's a great guy, says all the right things, and practices hard but gets burned a whole lot when it matters. Take it FWIW. Sometimes getting cut can light a fire under a player.
My question is
mrvax : 11/21/2014 9:31 am : link
why is Hosley so bad when he was projected to be a good corner? Training? Effort? Lack of smarts?
Hosley
JonC : 11/21/2014 9:33 am : link
appears to have some low confidence, and physically he is frequently overmatched.

This actually matches up with what Fewell said/implied in the OP.

Small, weak and dumb
Classic Belichick
Andy in Halifax : 11/21/2014 9:36 am : link
put your second best corner on the top receiver and AlWAYS provide safety support. Leave your best corner 1 on 1 vs the opponents second receiver.

Might be our best option...
He was projected to be a good slot corner.
Curtis in VA : 11/21/2014 9:37 am : link
Athletically, I think he has the ability.

But this seems to be a common issue with Giant draft picks. They are all athletic enough to handle the job but, they never develop the mental aspect of it.
any chance we can get 70" of snow before Sunday?

Yeah, Fewell's quote about Brown's attitude in the OP made me recall that radio conversation from the day after the Ravens cut Brown.

It's not the staff, DRC is taking himself out when he feels he needs to. They want him to play every snap but apparently he is unable to for whatever reason. They have to look towards him after plays and see if he's coming out or not so they can sub.

Well, he IS a Hokie, so I'm not sure what everyone was expecting.
The reality is that no CB can truly

cover Dez. We all saw what he did to Prince who is pretty good and a #1 pick. This does say something about Reese and the Holsey pick though. These bad drafts have killed this team.

I feel like our last superbowl was 20 years ago. we fallen soooooo far. reese can't hold it together and coughlin can only do so much.
This is where defensive coaching comes into play......
Doomster : 11/21/2014 11:20 am : link
We know he can't cover Dez, one on one.....

So there will have to be points in the game where you have to set the Cowboys up.....disguise your defense....make a defensive setup look open for a certain pass pattern that has been working for Dallas, and have one of your dbacks look for it and jump the route.....

Washington beat them by blitzing the hell out of the Cowboys.....unfortunately, they have better personnel to attempt it......

defensively, we matched up well against SF.....we do not match up well against Dallas.....

Can the Giants win? Yes, if they play mistake free football, Eli has a big game, and the defense would just about have to take Romo out of the game....I don't mean intentionally take him out, but if they manage to get to him a few times and his back acts up, then they have a shot......
"I

This has contest written all over it!

PF says: "I am very confident in _______ _______."

Quentin Demps? Stevie Brown? or my fave, Jacquin Williams?
Well...as long as he "does it with a smile"...
gersh : 11/21/2014 12:57 pm : link
So that's why Perry smiles on the sideline while his defense is getting crushed - because if you're smiling, you must be doing well!!
He does have to be double teamed
gregindaytona : 11/21/2014 1:02 pm : link
WE should double team Dez Bryant and put Cromarty on there second best receiver who he should handle easily.
Hosley
RetroJint : 11/21/2014 1:04 pm : link
holds promise playing in the the slot & Perry knows it. Outside he will take his chances with Brown. The coverage responsibilities they give Brown are much the same that McBride enjoyed. I wouldn't be surprised if Brown looked just as good as McBride
I was a big fan of Hosley when he first came up
gersh : 11/21/2014 3:34 pm : link
I've been nothing but disappointed since
If it weren't for the CB injuries this season, I don't think he'd be invited back after the suspension
Chykie is

Some thoughts
lugnut : 11/21/2014 10:44 pm : link
Really wonder if Giants are too enamored of "good" guys. They like what they see in Chykie, huh?, attentive in the classroom, does it with a smile, etc. No mention of whether he can actually play the game of football, which I bet he can't.

So they're going to conserve DRC, presumably for higher priority things, and put Chykie on Dez a lot(?) What the hell could possibly be more important than stopping their best WR? Maybe Fewell will actually make an adjustment after Chykie gives up 10 passes, 150 yards, and 2 TDs to Dez in first half.

As others have said, Hosley's worthless if Chykie is starting ahead of him. Similar scenario with OL -- if Adam Fucking Snyder is starting Sunday (and Jerry, Brown, and Walton have been all along), then Brewer and Mosley have been a total waste of our time.
There is no way Romo isn't going straight to Bryant
Jimmy Googs : 11/22/2014 6:51 am : link
the second Chykie Brown is lined up on him.

There is no way to cover this up as the Safeties are going to have to be focused on Demarco Murray all game.

Maybe it will be really windy Sunday Night and that will help?

Just saying; This year is over, a lost season. With DRC's big contract, the last thing I want to see is pushing him to play and him being injured more seriously, which could affect his play next year.
