be pretty shocked if the Yankees don't inquire. Dad is an ex-Yankee and all. Ike is awful with the media however so a smaller market may make sense for him.
on Taylor are pretty bad to be honest. It was "something" for nothing and he's still very young but odds are neither team gains anything from the Ike Davis trade.
by subtraction. I like most players or am indifferent about them, but i really grew to hate Ike Davis, like I hate Tejada (and like I admittedly irrationally hated Justin Turner).
That also doesn't consider the fact Duda was on the bench or in the OF (which was a shitshow).
So, even if Taylor amounts to nothing, getting rid of Ike and starting Duda is enough to call it a win.

Agree word for word 100%. Though if Taylor turns out to be "nothing", I wouldn't put "not having Ike" as a "win" for Sandy, rather choosing Duda over him would be the "win". They reportedly turned down both Joyce and Britton for him. It happens, but damn Britton would be nice right about now.
He can only play one position in the field, he is slow so can't use to pinch run, he strikes out a lot so isn't the guy you want to go to when needing a hit, doesn't hit lefthanders well at all, especially for power so teams could easily negate his HR threat if used as a pinch hitter.
I am sure someone will give him a look but what always made him intriguing was if he could be that 30 hr guy as your every day first baseman. IMO he is a poor guy to have on your bench.
think offensively Ike can be a Hairston/Mark Reynolds type where you use him exclusively as a DH/occasional 1b but really the value would be 1 swing king ala one swing can change the game. I want Mark Reynolds for the Mets for this very reason.
Yeah, but if the other team has a lefty in their pen
That one swing will most often be a disappointment.
Sure but that's true of most lefty bench players. There is usually a reason they are on the bench. I mean if Kirk is on the Mets bench isn't that the same thing? or if Duda doesn't start and is used to pinch hit?
it or not but Ike (in admittedly a very small sample size) has strong career numbers as a PH .276/.358/.483, in part because teams are scared of guys like him late in games due to his power.
in that he can play a variety of positions, is above average defensively and had good speed. Things you want in a bench player. Ike is much too one dimensional to be a valuable bench player.

I guess we will have to disagree. I think in the AL where you can play a DH, Ike Davis is a worthy gamble for a team considering his price tag.
A lot of teams carry a guy like Ike on their bench. He doesn't have to be able to play every position, teams like having a guy who can tie a game or take a lead with one swing.
I hope he does get a chance and adjust well to the role
I always liked Ike and it would be great if he excelled in that role. I just have my doubts but I agree someone will give him a look. Guys with power usually get a lot of second chances.

Which is why I keep advocating Mark Reynolds. He's close with David Wright, I'm guessing he knows Cuddyer too since they are all part of that Virginia group along with the Upton brothers and Zimmerman, he can play 3b/1b/OF and one swing can change the game. I really like having 1 guy like that on the bench.
I agree that he will likely get a chance. I was just saying I don't believe he would be a very productive bench player. Just my opinion but I hope he proves me wrong.
to suggest the Mets trade Montero to the Yankees for Arod (with the Yankees eating most of his salary)? I know it is, but it might be so crazy it just works.
And to get slightly crazier Arod would play SS.
I know he can't play the field really anymore, but how bad can he be? Plus, he should be well rested. Not to mention it is his lifelong dream to play for the Mets (LOL)
it seems like it would be at least a little awkward for Arod to return to the Yankees.
I know it's outlandish, but just trying to get creative to fill the SS role and I'm not sure what Arod's value is right now or how the Yankees view him - seems like some bad blood there especially with the FO.
I have reviewed this and I'm sober and still hit submit.
Please no, a forty year old who hasn't played in a long time, with injury history and likely hasn't played clean since his prime is not what the Mets need as they build around a young pitching staff. Especially if is cost them a quality trading chip.

Especially because he probably hit the biggest moon shot I've ever seen anyone hit at Citi when he was with Baltimore. The dude CRUSHED that ball.
Longest homers (at least to my eyes, I didn't measure them lol) I've ever seen in person were Mo Vaughn half way up the scoreboard, Delgado hit a walkoff vs. the Pirates and Luke Scott hit one at Yankee stadium that was ridiculous.

There are negatives sure, but who is your SS?
I don't know what Sandy will come up with but I certainly hope it isn't Arod for Montero.

Mo Vaughn off the Budweiser sign was hilarious. It looked like a cartoon.

For me it was McGwire at the Fenway Park all-star game batting practice. I was on Landsdowne Street and some of those HR's seemed like they were close to landing on the Mass Pike.
It definitely got a little TOO Slugfest-ish back then but the game needed it and come on, it was fun to watch.
I think we're almost too far in the other direction again but I like baseball enough to not lose interest if the games are lower scoring and less balls are going out of the park.
have made the game close to unwatchable for casual fans. Also the Giants/Dodgers rivalry may be helping the game on the Left Coast but the sorry state of the Yankees and Sox (the 2013 run excepted for the Sox) is certainly not having that impact in the Northeast.
Oh, 100%. I absolutely think the game is in a place right now where it's unappealing to casual fans. Baseball will always do well regionally when teams are decent-good and worth watching but other than that, really not so much.

I've said this before but the disconnect is that YES pitching duels can be awesome. Matt Harvey vs. Kershaw in a 1-0 nail biter can be one of the most exciting games in sports BUT Dillon Gee giving up rockets all over the field and the Mets winning/losing 4-2 because of the ballpark just isn't a lot of fun. I honestly think MLB is going to make some sort of major adjustment to the game in the next 5 years. Lowering the mound, moving the mound back etc.
I don't know if the pitch clock thing is going to work or not but they've got to find a way to speed up the game a little bit. I love the Mets, I really do.. but in the middle of the summer, I don't want to have to set aside 3 and a half hours to just watch one of 162 games. It's insane.

Agree re delay between pitches, I'm tired of people griping about the shift. If pull hitters would learn to hit the other way every now and then, or - gasp - drop a periodic bunt, the shift would disappear. But until then, pull hitters will stupidly continue to get out hitting into the teeth of the shift.

Yes the hitters should fix it, but many of them are not. And because they're not, we're watching power hitters line out to 2B three times a game. Ultimately it may fix itself, but it gives particular at bats all the drama of a late-game kneeldown in football.

Holy shit. Dont quit your day job. Mets give up one of their best shortstops for the ARod circus?
What's next... you guys want McDonaugh back for Tokarski?
during ike's rookie year, before the struggles and everyone talked about Ike's distance from the plate, Keith delivered an ominous message during one of the games late in a season.
He said plainly on air that Ike was difficult to deal with from a coach's standpoint because he was stubborn and felt that he knew it all.
to me, it looked like he never could adjust after the league figured out to pound him outside with fastballs and finish him off with breaking balls down in the zone.
Ike's swing was always long and him standing away from the plate hurt him. He needed to make wholesale changes to his swing and stance, but he never did those things. To me it just looked like his early success was simply based off the league not adjusting, and when they did, Ike never was able to make the following adjustment to remain a successful hitter
not defending Ike Davis at all because he was a known jerk dating back to his time with the Cyclones but I'd be careful to put too much weight into what Keith says. He was personally offended when Ike turned down a chance to work with him (Murphy and others did) and from that point on Keith was pretty openly "anti-Ike". Reyes apparently was too busy to talk to Keith one day in the lockerroom and a similar on-air vendetta began (they also "fought" on a plane).
should probably see if Blake Taylor amounts to anything first before declaring victory
That also doesn't consider the fact Duda was on the bench or in the OF (which was a shitshow).

A-Rod and McCann will probably back up Teix.

LOL, I was surprised I got no replies like this before yours.
In truth though, I was crushed in 2001 when Steve Phillips pulled out of the arod sweepstakes.
He should have been a Met, though Tom Hicks made that less likely, Steve Phillips didn't help.
