JPP: re watching the Niners game

TimsGiants : 11/21/2014 6:28 pm
If you watch it again and focus on him...wow

He wasn't a factor at all. Staley had him locked down. Not only that JPP was slow off the snap consistently and showed no effort.

It appeared to me he wasn't even trying to beat Staley. He seemed content to play patty cake and try to make cleanup playw past the LOS.

I got to ask why doesn't Fewel use matchups? When th other teams OT is dominating your "best" defensive lineman then why not move JPP around on the longer yardage or clear passing downs?

Because he is not that good
robbieballs2003 : 11/21/2014 6:50 pm : link
He is a good run defender but you don't overpay for that. Plus, Fewell's mentality is that when he gets one on one match ups then we should win them. The problem is that we don't have guys capable of winning one on one match ups. You don't scheme to get one on one match ups. You scheme to get a free guy coming. That is what really bothers me about him.

Look at it from the offensive's point of view. As long as they get a hat on a hat then they like their chances. You cannot double team everybody. The majority of players have to handle their business one on one when on offense. When a defense doesn't challenge the OL mentally nor physically then the game is already lost.
Pierre has been playing patty-cake for two years now.

This joker couldn't find the quarterback with a GPS.
It's a shame
Gman11 : 11/21/2014 7:15 pm : link
He was a total monster in 2011. He doesn't have the injury excuse this year. I don't know how a guy can be so dominating and now can't buy a sack.
Hard to believe how
TMS : 11/21/2014 7:22 pm : link
JPP has disappeared after the first year. Thought Reese's had a winner here that first year. He was injured but he has not learned any technique at all against a double team or a top Ol player. Another high pick that will disappear from our future roster. Mara has to look at this cancer on our team that leaves us with nothing from the drafts or FA. We need somebody who can judge NFL talent for our team and scheme.

Robbie,
It just shows how we have regressed on both sides of the ball... where we cannot win a one on one match up. Our D line gets pushed backwards and so does our O line. We are physically weaker than our opponent it seams.
I agree
robbieballs2003 : 11/21/2014 7:34 pm : link
but I wouldn't say regressed just because I feel like we have been like this for years not. We regressed from when Strahan was playing and if he was playing right now he would probably be our best DL.

And Kelly Rippa might be our second best. At least it's a good football name
Amazing that with all this training
mattlawson : 11/21/2014 8:15 pm : link
He's just gotten worse and worse. Consistently the guys that come in not knowing the defense do better. Once they've become inundated they get worse and worse and worse
The big difference between now and 2011,
Doomster : 11/21/2014 8:25 pm : link
is look who he is/was playing with...

JPP is the best lineman on this team.....where is the competition among his own team mates? Really none.....

That 2011 team had the likes of Canty, LJ, Bernard, Osi, Tollefson, Kiwi, and Tuck......these guys pushed each other from their very competitive nature....there is none of that on this defensive line....

I'm not trying to make an excuse for JPP....he is the leader of the front four, and he is not living up to it.....maybe the pressure is too much to live up to....maybe he is playing down to this line, a trait this whole team seems to have....

Like Nicks, this is a big contract year for him.....amazing that extra effort and gear, is not there.....and it's not like he's being double teamed....whatever edge or spark he once had, is not there.....
Wonder about JPP
mrvax : 11/21/2014 8:28 pm : link
It seems very strange to me that now that JPP is injury free, he's not near his level of just 3 years ago. He should have surpassed his level of play when he was just 21.

Is it that he's not playing with a solid Tuck & Osi? Could a change in defensive coordinator help him play better?

It's almost as mysterious as Nicks' performance dropping off a cliff last year.

We have no intimidators anymore
joe48 : 11/21/2014 8:45 pm : link
This team is soft because Jerry Reese does not draft tough football players. He likes to draft projects. All of his JPP's- How's that that doin for us? Not too well-we get pushed all over he field on offense and defense.
what was his assignment?
HomerJones45 : 11/21/2014 8:57 pm : link
Kaepernik is a running qb and the Niners run the ball. Maybe his primary assignment was to watch the LOS.

BTW, Strahan didn't break out until his 5th season.
Can't overpay the guy
armsteadeatslittlekids : 11/21/2014 9:07 pm : link
but if we let him walk, we really have nothing at end. Turning into a Beatty situation.
JPP is an excellent no 2 DE
spike : 11/21/2014 9:53 pm : link
opposite a great DE.

But he cannot be THE man in the defense, not even on the DL itself.
Not rewatching
SLIM : 11/21/2014 10:24 pm : link
I'm leaning to what Homer aluded to and also an indictment on Fewell. He isn't a great passrusher based on his moves and then Fewell probably asks him to focus more on containmnent.

our coaching staff plain fucking sucks in all phases
SHO'NUFF : 11/21/2014 10:24 pm : link
Oline, Dline, Linebackers...Flaherty, Nunn, Hermann, Quinn, Fewell should hit the unemployment line come 2015.
Forget
Brian1503 : 11/21/2014 10:30 pm : link
What his assignment was. He sucked at whatever he was asked to do. Dude He had 1 tackle.

HJ ever the contrarian. Smarter than everyone. Dude work on a new act.

JPP wants out of here. That's pretty clear. Rats jumping ship.
This so reminds me of the Tim Lewis days.
LauderdaleMatty : 11/21/2014 11:12 pm : link
They brought Spags in and guys who were underperforming played miraculously better.

Fewell is a better DC Lewis but not by much. Guy never seems to get anything extra out of his guys. And one or two injuries always seem to result in chaos.

JPP isn't playing up to his talent level. Some of that is on him but he seems to be the type of guy who needs to be pushed.
It seems the only sacks he gets these days
SB : 11/21/2014 11:56 pm : link
are coverage sacks.
I don't buy the excuse that he doesn't have help on the line
SB : 11/21/2014 11:59 pm : link
like he did with Tuck and Osi. If he was getting double teamed this year I'd believe it, but he is getting stonewalled by one lineman routinely.
Let's just face reality, Jerry Reese got it backward....
Mcphedge : 11/22/2014 1:23 am : link

Since 2012, JPP has become the Adrien Robinson of Defensive Ends...not the other way around.
I was furious when we drafted JPP
GiantJohn : 11/22/2014 4:30 am : link
Then he had a good year and I thought I was wrong about him. I'm back to my original opinion.
2011: High-Water Mark Seasons for JPP

Eli, Cruz and Nicks.

All have come back to earth (or crashed), and we are left we a losing team...

Jimmy, do you think it was like a Damn Yankees deal, you know, Lola and the devil and all? :)
Bill - there certainly were some moments that season
Jimmy Googs : 11/22/2014 9:19 am : link
that make you wonder:

- the JPP field goal block vs. Dallas
- the Cruz 99-yard TD vs Jets
- two fumbled punt recoveries vs SF
- Chase Blackburn of all people intercepting Brady's jump ball in the Superbowl

you never know...

LOL
I remember back when he was in the draft,
TampaGiant : 11/22/2014 2:27 pm : link
I was listening to the radio here in Tampa and they called up JPP 2 days before the draft. The radio host was talking to him and asking the same old generic pre draft questions, JPP was sounding very slow and pretty stupid.. In between everything the host was saying there was this crunching.....the host says " JPP , are you eating something ?" ..he says yeah ,brah ...I'm eatin cereal . Hosts says , well I think everyone can hear you ...he said I don't care . Lol . I swore that day whoever picked him was drafting a problem. Then he proved me wrong in 2011 , but obviously he's a few crayons short of a box.
