where the interest and eye-hand coordination are there.
At four, they're more interested in mobile apps. I had my four-year-old niece playing Sunset Overdrive, and all she wanted to do was change clothes in the character editor.
As for XB1 vs. WiiU, I'd go with the Xbox.
I own a WiiU and don't feel like it lives up to its reputation as a gaming console for kids. It's really a console that caters to a niche gaming audience.
Mario Kart is certainly a big hit with the kids, but even many of the games that you'd associate with kids, like Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country, are too hard and don't really go over the way they used to.
XB1 and PS4 actually have a much more kid-friendly library in my opinion, and a big advantage they have over WiiU is Minecraft, which is one of the best gaming investments a parent can make.
With kinect you get the same concept as Wii. My in laws have a wii u and we have the xbox we also have a 6 and soon to be 4 year old boys any lego game they will love...batman, marvel etc. Also disney infinity is very cool you can play with characters from frozen to guardians of the galaxy to marvel.
with wii that huge remote control thing that it comes with only one of the kids can use. So while one kid is playing with that remote the other one has the old school wii remote. If you get any games in the lego catalog it's not very easy for a kid to use the small old remote.
Skip both and get the original Wii. Go on Craigslist or ebay and get something like the bundle linked below. I paid $90 or so and got a ton of stuff. Anyone can play Mario Kart.
Id save the expensive serious consoles for when they get older. Example - ( New Window )
6 and 4 is a little too young imo to give an Xbox too. Unless you tie them to strictly sports games I just don't think it's a good idea to give them a gateway into games like battlefield and call of duty. Just a little too young for those violent games
Go with the wii because it can still be family fun and remains versatile. In a couple years when they mature more they can be ready for a Xbox or ps4

Seems like something that is going to become big with younger kids.
Wii is much better for that age range.

Books is already a given and they read every night.
