We still have a chance to end the season well

bigfish703 : 11/22/2014 12:11 am
Has anyone noticed that after we play the Cowboys, our next 4 opponents have a combined record of 8 wins & 30 losses? It is too bad that the weakest part of the schedule comes at the end, when the Giants are already beaten up & probably dispirited. Even in this condition though, they are good enough to beat the Jaguars, Redskins, Titans, & Rams.

"Don't give up the ship." (John Paul Jones). I wonder if JPJ can play RG?
Has anyone noticed how "sucky" the Giants are...

Thank you BOTH Mr. Reese and Mr. Coughln.
They both agree in past and present evaluation.
They both have to go.
so we win a few meaningless games
SHO'NUFF : 11/22/2014 1:58 am : link
and get bumped down a few draft picks...great...let's make a bad situation even worse. Finishing strong will also make it harder for the powers that be to make the decisions that need to be made.
don't underestimate

the Rams

Hope that our O-line does not get Eli killed by their D-line.
End the season well??

If pointless wins against the Jags titans and redskins get you excited then I don't know what to tell you. This team will not beat the rams. They are tough in their building they just embarrassed the broncos and gave peyton fitz. What do you think they will do to Eli. I can see Eli having another 3-5 pick game their.

Agreed in fact pencil that one in as a loss. Not sure you can actually say that any one game is a certain win at this juncture especially considering we have plenty of season left for poor play and the injury bug to bite us again and again.
I'm very cognizant of
River Mike : 11/22/2014 7:58 am : link
the draft spot issue, but if we somehow run the table, I don't think it would be meaningless. Unlike last season, it would be going into the off season with the needle pointing up, having beaten a couple of pretty good teams in Dallas and the Rams along with the bad teams.
Anybody penciling in any of the rest of our games as a W is nuts.
Giants4246 : 11/22/2014 8:01 am : link
The titans played pittsburgh very tough the other night, their D was flying around all over the field. I can see RG3 shredding our D one last time, rams just clobbered the broncos, and i can see sanchez coming back to metlife and sticking it to the giants in the season finale.
To me
mrvax : 11/22/2014 8:04 am : link
"ending the season well" is by playing and evaluating guys like Kennard, Washington, Behre, Nassib, Moore & Bromley, etc.
If this good finish
JoefromPa : 11/22/2014 8:06 am : link
You speak of does not include wins over Dallas and Philly it is not anything to get excited about.

Oh, I accept it. That's why my post was "if somehow", not "I think we can"

You're letting those last two Super Bowl wins go to your head. Those teams with a combined record of 8-30 are looking at the Giants as a way to end the season well.
we have the worst defense in the league,
Simms11 : 11/22/2014 8:51 am : link
and an offensive line that is probably the worst in the league, as well. If we win 2 more games, it will be a minor miracle. I wouldn't worry about winning out and getting pushed out of draft position. At this point, I'm not so sure we could even beat Jacksonville or the Titans on the road .

This team needs some serious help and, quite frankly, don't see Reese as the guy to make it better. Maybe Reese is the guy tat will get the ax, rather then TC! That would make the season end well IMO.
We still have the chance to end the season very well
aquidneck : 11/22/2014 8:52 am : link
but, as we all know, seasons play out one game at a time. Still, team isn't nearly as bad as the consensus here would have it.

All NFL teams are flawed.

And this is still Coughlin's team. His, the coaches and the players season to salvage or not starting tomorrow.

Just like Will Hill, the Giant's 2014 season is all out of second chances.
7-9 would be similiar to last year. Beat weaker teams
Blue21 : 11/22/2014 8:55 am : link
at the end of the year. I hope we do finish 7-9 again so we can at least feel a little better.
if ending well
aquidneck : 11/22/2014 8:59 am : link
Means 9-7 and serious playoff contention week 16, sign me up...

Coughlin farewell tour likely starts if we lose tomorrow.

Not for nothing, but didn't they finish like 7-2 down the stretch last season. It didn't carry over to this season. So finishing on a great note doesn't carry into the other season..they're new seasons

Micky you make a valid point but isn't it perferable to end on a brighter note. Would you not want players leaving at season end being up beat about themselves and the future of their team?
We still have a chance to end the season bad, too....
Doomster : 11/22/2014 10:01 am : link
Finishing 7-2 last season probably kept this team/ownership from facing reality one year sooner....

To hang your hat on 4 straight wins against teams without starting qb's, 2 wins against a Washington club that was much worse than us, and beating Detroit on a tipped pass, because our offense did absolutely nothing in the second half of that game, was all smoke and mirrors....

Chances are we lose to Dallas....that means for the second straight season, this team has lost 6 in a row.....how many times do you have to be hit over the head with a bat for reality to sink in?

Hey, it's possible, the Giants win....The Jets beat the Steelers....the Raydah's beat the Chiefs.....those games happen.....but it it doesn't change the fact that these teams are bad....I hope the Giants don't go on a streak after the Dallas game, and create the same illusion as last year.....finishing 6-10, 7-9 would do that.....

As for the draft pick, yes getting a few more wins would cost us a few spots in the draft.....at first I wanted the Giants to lose, to get a better pick....but the reality is, the same people are in place that have screwed up our drafts, for the last 8 years.....yes, we probably hit on the first round(kind of a no brainer), but what about the second round and beyond? I want guys playing out there, the Kennards, Moores, Berhes, Nassibs,etc......I want to see what they can do in real games, not hear about how great they look in practice, going up against their own team mates.....of course, the mindset of these coaches is to try to win to save their jobs, and moves like this could jeopardize them.....this team, for a long time, has kept guys on the roster without using them, year after year....use them....see what they can do.....make the hard decisions....the sooner the process is started, the better....this team has had it's head in the sand, since before the start of the 2011 season.....time to take it out and take a deep breath.....
Be upbeat about the future of the team...
Dunedin81 : 11/22/2014 10:04 am : link
and probably keep some of the bad personnel and struggling coaching (Fewell) in place or get a premium draft pick and go into the offseason with an impetus for real change?

You want Nassib playing over Eli Manning?
No, what I don't want to see
Doomster : 11/22/2014 10:14 am : link
is Eli playing in the fourth quarter, with 5 minutes left in the game, trailing by 21 points, and padding his stats against a prevent defense.....Get Nassib in there....we have only seen him play against scrubs in preseason....experience is the greatest teacher....

We started 0-6 and the next 10 finished 7-3 last season, how is that not going into the offseason with the needle pointing up?

The difference would be the changes on offense (not the OL) perhaps coming to fruition and going 6-0 beating 3 good teams in Dallas, Philly, and the Rams, vs 7-2 against bad teams with bad or backup QBs. Nothing would be guaranteed for next year, but I would be happy with that finish.

Is ending the season on a positive note and making off season changes to move the team forward mutually exclusive?
We are not making the playoffs...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 11/22/2014 12:41 pm : link
and if you want changes to be made, then this team needs to completely fall apart. Otherwise (as others have mentioned), it will be business as usual next year.
Not alot of confidence in our owners here.
Watson : 11/22/2014 1:23 pm : link
Totally clueless, incapable of identifying actual problems and taking corrective actions? Gutless wonders, will not make hard decisions which maybe required to implement plan?

Disagree. If the team does make the playoffs (not likely), then maybe most of the staff is worth keeping, and maybe it is all injuries and bad drafting ... not coaching. Just sayin
If we draft 10th let's say
jLefty : 11/22/2014 3:01 pm : link
or twelth we should find some meaningful line support . Still when it comes time for the draft itself, it seems like there's two left tackles and a couple of guards that are like ly to go before we choose. And then we say there's no one left. With all the big time college teams and all the players couldn't we once find some sleepers who turn out to be all pro. This hasn't happened in a long time.
I think this team sucks.
arcarsenal : 11/22/2014 3:32 pm : link
And will be lucky to win 2 more games. But there was a lot of bellyaching about the 7-3 finish last year because it worsened our draft position and all that happened was that we ended up with a stud WR whom everyone is excited about and seems to agree has been the lone bright spot of this season.

So you think the difference between success and failure from this point forward is when we select next year? Dude, we need about 12 players.

The opponents you site coming up are all looking at the Giants as the one game on their schedule they can say "Damn, we sure as hell can win this one this week."

The Giants are 4 (FOUR) games out of the last playoff spot.

The Giants are 1 (ONE) game out from being tied for having the NFC's worst record.
