What he learned from his dad a former NFL player, his work ethic, what his fellow teammates and coaches think of him and his future... Link - ( New Window )
I identify with the Dad more than kid. So I take it personally when you said he hasn't done much yet. He's done all the right things, made the team, graduated in 3 and a half years, got a Master's degree as well, and right now he's starting. So that's pretty good. From the fan perspective, I'm still waiting for the pick6 or the sack/forced fumble on Romo (and I wouldn't feel that bad if he re-injured his back as a consequence), but hey! He's good enough that the coaches want him starting. So go Devon!
article, but if we're going to be honest here, Kennard really hasn't done much on the football field. So far, it's been all talk.
Yeah, but he's a rookie fifth round draft pick who was injured a lot in college. I'm not sure what more he could have been reasonably expected to do so far. The team is also a mess.
Kennard hasn't gotten much in the way of playing time
his position is first off the field when they go to sub packages, I'd like to see him get a bigger role to play as in the preseason he looked like he had the natural instincts to be an effective LB.
Defenderdawg once again thank you for posting all these articles
better than Paysinger, JWilliams, and Herzlich, he's our 2nd best LB.
And a 5th rounder.
Though it'd be nice, if he is ONLY solid, that's good enough for me.
and lasts longer, I'll be more than happy with his ROI. He is similar in build but an inch taller and 10 lbs heavier... Not sure he moves as well as Goff (once Goff got more comfortable and instinctive.)
he is an intelligent young man......and maybe he can grow into the linebacker position....but as of right now, he is just a body out there.....makes you wonder about the linebacker coach.....this guy has the physical tools, and intelligence, but it has not, as others have mentioned, translated onto the field....
JW had so much promise, with the amount of time he played his rookie year....we kept hearing about his quickness and pass defending skills....I mean we heard about it, just never saw it....
The Giant linebacker situation is really in the toilet....I doubt you will see the likes of Herz, JW, and Paysinger next year.....Reese has to make a 6M dollar decision on Beason......every season, it's like starting from scratch when assessing our linebackers....
and I hope the guy becomes a player, but there's usually a reason why he lasted until the 5th round. I agree with Eric about wanting to see a little more production on the field. So, far I see nothing to make me think the guy is going to be any better than the collection of low round draft choices and UFAs they've got already.
comparison with Moore. You do realize that Moore only played part of his final season at A&M with his hand on the ground, right? And, very early in the 2013 camp the Giants were saying Moore needed time to learn how to play DE.
So what's this trap you believe fans fell into...thinking Moore should be seeing more time on the field and that he must not be. Very good since his PT is limited? If you knew the player when drafted you knew he was as raw a DE as imaginable.
You're an astute observer of football and the team, and your benefit-of-the-doubt assessment given DM's college (in)experience as a DE should be given weight and respect. I do. In the past I think Eric would have jumped to agree with you. And there is time for you to be proven right and DM to grow into an effective pass-rusher from the DE position.
Against that, your assessment echoes much of the benefit-of-the-doubt/patience that another high(er) round draftee had when he was picked out of position: Sintim. I never thought he had much AA or explosion at all; the fact that injuries also kept him off the field saved Sintim from being labeled "pure bust" and Reese from another embarrassing high pick failure, imo.
Weighing against that and for your argument: DM has a lot of AA, but does it translate to making him an effective, three-down DE? Unless he re-makes his body to become Strahan-strong and tough (and it took Strahan a number of years out of Texas Southern to do that) without losing quickness, I see him as Osi light and even more ineffective against the run, that is, assuming he can first improve to become an effective pass rusher who is not easily pushed off his route to the QB.
I'm weighed down by my "benefit-of-the-doubt" of too many failed picks and talent assessments by this FO.
Difference between Kennard and Moore is that Kennard is starting as a rookie. Had he not had the hammy injury, he might have had a lot more opportunities than he currently has.
Granted we don't know what the future holds, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if this kid stays in the starting lineup moving forward. His teammates have told me this kid prepares like a 10-year veteran and he's that serious about being successful in the league. That's half the battle right there.
You see enough guys who are draft picks that milk their "scholarships." I don't think Kennard is going to be another one of them.
I would be very surprised if Herzlich is not back here next year. Depends on what happens with the coaching, mind you, but don't be so sure that he's a goner just yet.
Usually look like good players or at least show flashes right away. Its great that he studies and impresses off the field and has an NFL body but until he makes some good football plays he is nothing but hype. To my eye he has not flashed anything special on the field yet
At least moore is a wrecking ball on special teams!

Yet another reminder of my geezer status.

Time will tell. At least he can hit.

How many of these types of glowing articles about young players have we read, and then they fizzled?

guess what I'm saying is let's not fall into the same trap we've done with Damontre Moore.

7. Is that right?

Who on this team has done much this year? Maybe when this team comes together, next year or after that, he will be an asset
