6-0. Now 7-4. Ugh. I doubt we beat USC next week, ending 7-5. That'd be horrible. I think this team can be good next season, but who knows? So frustrated.
USC is going to score 40+. They aren't playing well obviously and now the injuries have destroyed the defense. It's a disastrous end to the season, the wheels have come off after the FSU game and then the injuries hit.

This experience will be helpful down the road for the young guys getting so much time, but they shouldn't lose these games in the meant time. Today is not a disaster of a loss but it was right there to win and they didn't do it, that stings.
And while I do like Kelly, this is year 5 and they have taken a step back this year. They should not be going 7-5 despite the injuries and lack of upperclassmen
in next season. They're going to get Russell and Williams back, they don't lose much besides Riggs barring guys transferring that is any good. And Riggs has been hurt the last 3 games and is likely done for year.. Koyack, Brindza, McDaniel Lombard, Collinsworth are the only guys they will lose that see time, and quite frankly none of them are any better than average.
It sucks to see the way they are finishing this year but still should be optimistic about next year. Teams have big turn arounds from one year to the next on a regular basis
he played well in the 2nd half I thought. Hated the play calling when they got first and goal, he had one shot to throw it because they ran it on first 2 downs

Better yes, but tentative, to me anyway.. Just seemed to hold on. The turnovers really took the wind out of his sails.
I recall when Brian Kelly made the distinction between the players
he recruited and the Weis leftovers. Well, these are all of his players and the DL is an embarrassment and 4 of the starting o-linemen are average at best.
For all of the complaints about Golson (his 2 turnovers today were completely his fault), the defensive drive after they got the lead at 20-17 was horrendous.
I'm not saying they should be Alabama in year 5 of Kelly's regime, but they shouldn't be going down the drain either.
I was a big time Irish fan thanks to my Irish father going all the way back to the 1966 tie game vs. Michigan State. When they were brought back to earth after Ara left, for quite a few years I was hopeful at the start of every season. But eventually it sunk into me that Notre Dame was done as a major power due to academic standards and even the cold winter weather.
But tons of Notre Dame fans go right on through year after year of disappointment. Dallas hasn't won or been to a Super Bowl in almost twenty years. But they are still America's team, with the most fans spread all over the country. Just check out their TV ratings.
It's kind of admirable, I guess, that these fans of both teams were not front runners and remain loyal and hopeful.

Except Dallas fans are bandwagon. ND fans are loyal. By that I mean ND fans are ND fans thick and thin. Cowboys fans are there only when they are good.
If you are even paying attention it s all beat up. Bottom line is the whole damn defense is all beat up. They are a young team. The had an excellent recruiting year and are only going to get stronger.

This always makes me laugh, too.
If you were only allowed to root for the school you went to in college football, college football wouldn't be on TV, it would be played in front of division 2 or 3 level crowds and there would be next to no interest in it.

Is that what you want?
No Mook, of course people will follow a FB program other than the school they went to IF that school really had no program worth following.
BUT IMO, there is a disproportionate number of fans following ND. It is just like all of those NFL fans around the country who are Cowboy fans. No idea why or how they started to like them but just DO either because everybody else does or because they used to win...and they are popular.
I also know a ton of Irish guys who love ND just because of that reason.
the whole Irish Catholic thing is a big reason, and it's the reason I was raised an ND fan because my mom was raised an ND fan by her irish catholic grandfather and my mom raised me that way, didn't have much choice but to like them.
Also, they were one of the, if not the only, team on TV in the NY area decades ago.
I'm a ND fan because my folks were ND fans & their folks were ND fans. I'm also Irish Catholic and next to the Kennedys & Guinness, ND football was sacred in my household.
Mook, your thoughts about next season?

Wish we had a playoff system in place then.....ND and Michigan, were both 9-0-1.....ND #1, MI #2
Alabama was 11-0 that year, and was #3...
Here is a question for you.....TC is the coach of ND....what does he do with one minute left?
This was a surprise to almost no one out side of Irish fanboys.
