Marion S. Barry Jr., a sharecropper’s son and civil rights pioneer who became a flamboyant and polarizing mayor of Washington, went to prison on cocaine charges, then recaptured City Hall in one of the most improbable comebacks in the history of American urban politics, died shortly after midnight on Sunday. He was 78.

Don't really know much about Barry but his successor the second time was Anthony Williams. Anthony was DC mayor at time of sniper attacks. Anthony's sister, Loris, was a 12-year co-worker of mine in Los Angeles.
RIP.
Shit... I cannot believe he was re-elected. Just goes to show you that voters really ARE stupid
sure, but I also suppose we could have just picked any name out of the obits. Maybe an old war veteran or something.
Rest in peace? I don't don't give a crap how he rests. Bury him and forget him.
Well, on the plus side he was an Eagle Scout. That's gotta count for something.
With a real mayor like Anthony Williams, the city did so much better, but it took YEARS to dig out all of his entrenched incompetent, grasping cronies, That legacy is almost but not quite past at a city level. I'm sure his Ward will also take years to recover.
But no harm. Nice to see someone with something positive to say about the man at his passing.
I'm not one for shaming the recently deceased, but he's the poster child for the willingness of cities to elect the worst of people to the mayoralty and to keep electing them. "Bitch set me up," numerous corruption allegations, actually had his authority over the city stripped by the feds after he bankrupted it, presided over DC taking the title as the murder capitol of the country. He did some very important things in his youth, but his status as a punchline was well-deserved.

Wow. If those comments went the other direction, good old Rev Al would be having a stroke on TV.

No, if Barry said it, Sharpton would not have done anything. If a white politician said it... then you would be correct.
well let's see....I work overnight and I saw this was breaking news and since he is a well known figure, I posted it.
Next time I'll check with you. OK? Feel better?

The man did suffer from foot and mouth disease and other vices! He tried to explain away his comment "Dirty Asians" as some sort of cultural difference, talk about using stereotypes, LOL!

I wonder if Howyadoin has an alarm next to his bed for all those overnight check-ins regarding thread worthiness.
