LeBron calls the Cavs fragile. What's going on here?

BigBlueBull : 11/23/2014 5:30 am
I think they made a huge mistake in letting Wiggins (potentially Pippen 2.0) leave for a rich man's David Lee. Even then, losing 4 straight, LeBron looking lost on D then calling the team "fragile" in the post-game presser, and Kyrie Irving getting absolutely owned by John Wall the other night seems to indicate a huge red flag. Then again, Miami started off slow the year they formed the big 3, so perhaps they need time to gel. With that said, the best player on the planet finished with a 15 pt, 10 assist, 1 rebound, 5 TO night. I haven't followed hoop closely in years, but wondering what smarter minds than mine make of this situation.

Cavs Have Problems

They're not a good defensive team and they're inconsistent on offense. That being said, I think the majority of their problems can be fixed. Their season will come down to the health of Lebron.
Should there be any concern

Rich man's David Lee?
they don't play defense
hitdog42 : 11/23/2014 8:38 am : link
the offense is yet to click... right now they stand around and look at eachother and wait for each person to get their play called.
And they seemed to have crushed the confidence of a guy like waiters who should be their 15ppg bench spark.

Its going to take some time but their inability to guard anyone is pretty pathetic.
i also would have never made that trade
hitdog42 : 11/23/2014 8:43 am : link
and told my buddy in the front office the same thing. Wiggins has the potential to be a remarkable 2 way player and compliment to lebron for his twilight years... and bennett still has untapped potential.

Its not anything against Love, but to me the fit was perfect with wiggins and they panicked thinking they would miss 1 year of the lebron window if they gave the rook a chance to develop.
He's the best player on the planet
BigBlueShock : 11/23/2014 9:56 am : link
but if anyone has been fragile, it's LeBron. Terrible body language, turning the ball over like its his job, not bothering to get back on defense, etc.

That team needs LeBron to toughen up and lead from the front. When he starts doing that, they will follow.
I didn't know

Its not. You have a problem talking sports, go to another board.
I've seen a few of their games
moespree : 11/23/2014 10:56 am : link
And I think Lebron looks disinterested. There's no emotion. It looks like he's going through the motions and as a result of that it's led to him being a turnover machine and not hustling back on defense. Also he's being beaten on defense in situations that never occurred the last few seasons in Miami.

I think the situation between James and Irving is overplayed by the media, but there's no doubt Irving needs to adjust his game with Lebron on the team. If he can't do that than I think Lebron needs to take the ball up the court and facilitate the offense.

He's one of the 5 clearest winners? By what metric? Who are the 4 others?

Who cares, just enjoy it

You can be a really good player and a loser
UConn4523 : 11/23/2014 12:48 pm : link
see Dwight Howard.

I don't think James is a loser at all, it's likely a bad stretch that will get figured out. Unless he just aged 5 years this offseason, which I guess is possible though I highly doubt it.
They're a bad defensive team
dpinzow : 11/23/2014 12:54 pm : link
Miami succeeded in part due to these factors. Wade was an elite defender at his position; Bosh was at least passable. Remember that the Heat were able to cut off a lot of teams on the perimeter during their two championships because LeBron, Wade and Chalmers, also a good perimeter defender, covered so much ground and stopped a lot of rotation to open players. The Heat made defense a team commitment. Irving and Love are shambolic defensive players, and Love is much worse than Bosh as a defender, and that's saying something.

The other factor is the LeBron-Irving relationship. Both players are ball-dominant and Irving will need to figure out how to be an elite player when he isn't handling the ball all the time, because LeBron will give himself the point guard duties soon, if not now
I would also bet that the Cavs +/- stats
dpinzow : 11/23/2014 12:59 pm : link
are better when Tristan Thompson and Varejao are the bigs and Love is out of the game
If it don't work put, no problem

Love and LeBron can opt out after this season.

in the NBA is tough. They are learning how to play together. Irving's and Love's injuries in the pre-season meant that they are still playing catch-up.
