I like OBJ, kid looks great, but

Jim in Forest Hills : 11/23/2014 11:10 pm
if they don't draft OL 1st and 2nd round next year, they are crazy. They have OBJ, Cruz, Donnell, and the RBs. Maybe take a WR somewhere on day 3.

Eli cannot get it done with this OL. Such a stark contrast to Dallas' line.

OT, rd 1, OG, rd 2.

I know there are holes in the defense, but they have to fix this first.
Dallas is in the backfield

constantly.
It's way way too early
Joe in Cambridge : 11/23/2014 11:16 pm : link
to give up on Pugh and Richburg. In addition to them the Giants still have Beatty and Schwartz. It would be an overreaction to use both the first and second on offensive linemen.
OL
ANGPASS : 11/23/2014 11:16 pm : link
and DL. Then OL DL after. FIX THESE UNITS.
We need defense more than offense though
RoadWarriorz : 11/23/2014 11:53 pm : link
We are rated last in defense. Our offensive line is bad, but I think our front 7 is worse
OL
Big Blue Fan 74 : 11/23/2014 11:58 pm : link
I agree going OL with the first two picks and if the best player available is not an OL then trade down.

Anybody that saw the last drive of Dallas should understand how important the OL is.

Give Eli the OL he deserves.

We pretty much need everything.

They just need to go straight BPA (except for QB, IF they're choosing to say with Eli) and really be straight BPA, not just the party line version they normally go by that leads to them taking Wilson over players tiered above him on the board.
What I can't figure out
jcn56 : 11/24/2014 12:05 am : link
(and obviously I mean before Richburg and Brewer were inserted) was how the OL started the game off with some decent blocking, played an entire half of good ball, then came out in the second half like a bag of shit on fire.

Did Dallas just half-ass it in the first half? Did they adjust and do something different? Or did our guys just revert back to sucking?

And was Richburg inserted because Snyder was injured, or was it planned? Collinsworth mentioned early in the evening that we may see Richburg at C, but when I saw it I wasn't sure what drove the change.
Agree 1000% Ol priority 1
micky : 11/24/2014 12:08 am : link
Look across the field when you have an OL. Plus OBJ, Cruz, Eli etc etc..are worthless if they can't get the ball off. plain and simple. It starts up front
Our O-line is terrible
A1022 : 11/24/2014 12:20 am : link
But looking at what the Cowboys have done in recent drafts, everyone seems to forget that they already had Romo, Bryant, Murray and Witten. Thats a lot of playmakers in place already, and yet the only player we have who strikes fear in opposing defenses is a rookie. We have a lot of holes. And don't forget about our D. Draft BPA.
Agreed unless Amari Cooper is available
dpinzow : 11/24/2014 1:08 am : link
otherwise you scribble his name on the card and sprint to the podium. This offense with Amari, OBJ and Cruz slowly working back in as a 3rd receiver would keep up with almost anyone.

Go for Iupati in FA unless there is an OL in the draft that you want who is literally can't miss
I don't get what OBJ has to do with drafting
montanagiant : 11/24/2014 1:14 am : link
For the next season?

Its actually nice we have one of the very best rookies that is a serious weapon for at least the next 5 years.

The O line did well enough to help Eli get a go ahead TD

The defense on this team is a disgrace. Fewell needs to be fired now.
They need to re-build the trenches ....
Beer Man : 11/24/2014 6:00 am : link
on both sides of the ball, right now there are too many holes. IMO, we need a LG, LT, LBs, DT, and pass rusher. Plus at the skilled positions we will need help at safety, and possibly RB & WR. Hopefully they can do something in the FA market.
Team would be unwatchable without Beckham.
Ten Ton Hammer : 11/24/2014 9:09 am : link
Completely unwatchable.

They also allowed pressure on what would have been an easy toss and catch to Beckham when Scandrick stumbled. Eli had to look away though with white jerseys after him.

If we had Martin, our offensive line might look a bit better. But we'd have no WR to throw to. Right now we have a WR to throw to but no offensive line. You can't fix everything in one season.
While I agree that OL
River Mike : 11/24/2014 9:20 am : link
should be a priority, you just can't blindly draft OL if the value isn't there. If there is no OL value at that spot, but there is a can't miss prospect at another position of need, you have to go with it. Keep an eye on OL prospects as your first priority in each round, but don't reach. OL should also be the priority in FA, but again, though you may have to pay a premium, don't totally fuck up your cap. Bottom line is, in both cases, have it as a high priority but carefully evaluate all the appropriate considerations before you leap.
That's not strong asset management, Jim
JonC : 11/24/2014 9:23 am : link
Do your best to address urgent needs via UFA first. I like Schwartz at RT, kick Pugh inside, Richburg at C, find another OG via UFA.

There's a decent chance we could land an OT in the top 10, but none look like left tackles, and none of the OGs look like proper value. Best chance is they go playmaker in the 1st round, factor need in a bit more in the 2nd round.

Draft the best players that fit your schemes, don't draft positions.
again, the problem with the OL is....
Greg from LI : 11/24/2014 9:24 am : link
....the bigger weakness is inside. They need guards. No one picks guards in the top 10. It just isn't done.

If they draft an OL over the Alabama WR,
Go Terps : 11/24/2014 9:27 am : link
they're making a mistake. Everyone in the world is going to be doubling Beckham next year.

Go out in FA and spend the JPP/Rolle money on Iupati and another FA OL.
draft
Big Blue Fan 74 : 11/24/2014 11:09 am : link
Somebody can always think up a reason to draft a WR. That's what Reese did his first 4 years as GM. The bottom line is if the OL can't protect the QB then that team will struggle. It doesn't matter how good the skill players are.

Doesn't anybody remember Super Bowl XLII? How do you think we beat the one of the best offenses of all time. They were 18-0 but we hit Brady over 20 times and we won the game.
That still doesn't mean draft OL or bust in the first round
JonC : 11/24/2014 11:17 am : link
let alone first and second round.

You get finite resources each year, you need to maximize how you use them. Picking a position is failure in that regard.
