Eli made two bad plays tonight
BlackLight : 11/23/2014 11:51 pm : link
the throw to Parker that was too high and got picked, then not seeing OBJ running free when Scandrick fell down.

Then he had us in the lead with 3 minutes left. So no, Eli didn't cost us the game.
The worst part, for me,
Exit 172 : 11/23/2014 11:51 pm : link

Sad part is coming out of halftime I said to my friend, "you just know we'll fail to adjust to what they do, and we'll lose on a TD to Dez late."

The Giants have a spent a significant amount of cap space on the OL from 2011 on (when you include dead money), relative to a lot of the league, and it's not meant a damn thing.

It's a nice pipe dream, that $4M a season will magically fix things, but so long as Reese/Ross is picking the talent and this staff is coaching them, it won't likely actually amount to much.

Coughlin, Reese, and the rest of the coaching staff. Trade Eli also. Thanks for the Super Bowls, but it is time to move on from Eli. I will love him forever and he will always be a Giant, but he is a TURNOVER MACHINE and you cannot have that in the NFL. That pass to Parker is the difference in the game. Following last week's 5 INT performance and last years 100 Int season, it is time to move on. I hope we lose the rest of our games so we can draft a new QB.

but the loss is really on the coaches and the defense. We made NO adjustments coming out of the locker room. We did nothing to stop Dallas in the 4th Qtr. Could not get pressure and did not bring extra pressure either. Just let Romo stand there all night and throw.

I hate losing to Dallas in any context or capacity
eclipz928 : 11/23/2014 11:52 pm : link

I agree. Unbelievable he's made it this long. You can't tell me we didn't have the players to get some sort of a rush on Romo during that last drive. Absolutely fucking horrible.

The only thing I'm ore sick of than Fewell is all the people around here who refuse to admit that he's the problem with our defense.
As bad as the last Dallas TD was....
bceagle05 : 11/23/2014 11:53 pm : link
the one that bothered me most was the TD we gave up right after the incredible Beckham TD. If there was ever a time for the defense to feed off some energy and make a stand, that was it. But of course, like the spineless douchebags they are - they let them march right down the field with no resistance. JPP, Rolle and Fewell can steal money from different teams next season.
They played good in first half
micky : 11/23/2014 11:53 pm : link
which I think makes Mara decision to stay on course with everyone.

Holy shit
Bramton1 : 11/23/2014 11:53 pm : link
The guy completes 72 percent of his passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns, and he's the reason we lost?

No chance it's was the defense, which gave up four touchdown passes, 121 yards for Murray, and couldn't get to Romo within seven seconds TWICE IN THREE PLAYS?

F'ing tools here.
I remember when Eli was actually good at the end of games.
bigbluescot : 11/23/2014 11:53 pm : link
. The defense is shit, the personnel decisions the coaches make are mindboggling.

But ultimately in a 3 point game, we left 7 on the field (and granted Dallas the ball at the 50 yard line) due to one of the worst throws I've seen to a wide wide open receiver. He could have literally lobbed the ball to Parker he was that open.
So... Another endzone Interception

And his co owner Mr Do Nothing.

Yeah Fewell sucks but ownership is clueless and doesn't want make changes. So let's go retro because the 70s are back.

OBJ made one of the. Most insane catches in history and the team lost be used both the OL and DL suck. That's on Reese whose job performance is beyond sad.

Good job by two men whose only accomplishments in life are being born into the correct gene pool.

But, how the Hell do you run a route shorter than 2 yards on 4th and 2. Sure, it was close and went to review. But, make sure you get past the sticks.

Other than that, Eli's INT was probably a 14 point turnaround and the game. And then missing Donnell on the last drive was huge.

100% agreed - sign me up for the newsletter and commemorative plaque.

Plenty of disappointment to go around - from our franchise QB overthrowing a wide open guy in the end zone to our defense shitting the bed, and our offense unable to get a single fucking first down against a pedestrian defense, at home.

Almost all the intelligent people on this board (about 25 to 30 percent) agreed that the number one and only priority of the off season was to protect Eli,because when under sustained pressure Eli was falling apart.

They chose instead to draft a wide receiver first, and to hand out the biggest free-agent contract to a cornerback, where we were not particularly weak.

This game turned around when the Giants stopped getting pressure on Romo and the Cowboys started getting relentless pressure on Eli. And Eli, whether he ever could play well under these conditions, can certainly not play with them now.

All the Cowboy fans are enjoying a well-deserved gloat tonight.

The whole coaching staff needs to go, and the FO might need to go as well. They went into the locker room with the lead (again) and came out and played like horseshit in the second half (again).

Our highest paid player played well overall, but made stupid mistakes that cost us a score (again) and gave the opponent the ball in our territory (again).

Our coverage teams were abysmal, letting the runner get past the gunner and go for positive returns even when the punts had good airtime (again).

We keep fucking up, and doing the same things wrong over and over. It's definitely not just one root cause - but certainly a coaching problem and almost definitely a talent problem.

There is no hope. This entire coaching staff should be fired. Poor clock management. Poor play selection. No development of players. Poor decisions on who should play in key moments. Where was Moore and Ayers during Romo's march down the field? When to blitz. When not to? On and on.

It starts with Coughlin. I'm sure they had a great week of practice. On and on.

Dallas OL is good, not that good. Just shows how bad the DLine talent is. JPP played well tonight, but Kiwi is done. Pugh gives them no pass rush. Jenkins could have helped us this game.

We couldn't get one first down with a minute left.

Can we please have some people here wake up? Yes he screwed two big plays but he also plays behind arguably the worst offense line in football...the starters are questionable and even they can't stay healthy. And on the other side of the ball is one of the worse defenses I have seen on a field this season...and statistically the worst in the NFL against the run.

The offense put up 28 points. If that is not enough to win you a game then you need to be ripping your defense a new one not the QB.

If it's not for our 20 million dollar QB, we'd not be in ANY position to win the game to begin with.

If you want to say he doesn't deserve Peyton/Rogers money I'll agree with you. It's just, about 16 other teams will GLADLY pay it. So, unless you want the offense to suck as much ass as the defense and specials do...bite your tongue.
It's pretty amazing
AgentZero : 11/24/2014 12:05 am : link
That in the thrre games that OBJ has gone off in the first half, that opposing defenses scheme to reduce his production in the second half and for the most part are successful (lack of offensive weapons does that) yet our defensive coordinator still allows other teams to continue running wild on us with zero adjustments made. I love Coughlin but he's now as much to blame for this mess as Fewell. If Fewell is not gone the second the season ends the Giants are in big big trouble for next year and maybe longer.

and see what Nassib can get you. I don't think Nassib is anywhere near as good, but the team has too many holes, and Eli's unfortunately a luxury at top dollar if he's going to continue to play like that.
It's a team loss.
George : 11/24/2014 12:06 am : link
Eli overthrew a wide open guy on the five yard line that resulted in a pick and, ultimately, a huge TD. Overthrew Donnell with 50 seconds left and missed a sure big gainer. Missed a wide open ODJ on a potential 85 yard TD. Bad.

Inconsistent OL play again. Eli often had little time to find receivers.

Defense was its usual disaster. Non existent pass rush. Horrible Linebacking play. Safeties out of position. Wideouts running free across midfield. Just a nightmare performance.

Kick coverage was horrible.

But we were ahead by 4 with 3:00 to go.

This team is in one of those dark places where they find ways to lose, rather than find ways to win. It's hard to watch, because we've become accustomed to it being the other way round.

It's time for the front office to identify the guys to build around and move on from there. While we obviously need OL, this next draft ought to be about linebackers and pass rushers - and yes, I know, the Giants don't value the former very highly.

It's time they started.

I said it before the game - I'm glad that PSL owners (I'm not one) could recoup their costs.

They have to pay for 10 games of this shit, which includes 2 preseason that they're likely going to outright eat. When the team sucks, they've got a choice of either paying at least $120/ticket (or more) plus parking to go watch the shitfest, or sell them off at a loss.

A handful of teams travel well and drum up demand for the tickets, and maybe help them out by not taking too big a hit, one of them being the Cowboys.

Sucks, but that's how it goes, I don't blame them one bit.

Why do you think that JPP is going to be overpaid. He had one year as an elite lineman and he's been going downhill ever since. We have to keep him because he's still a better than average DE and we have so many worse than average players to replace.

How anyone doesn't see this is the fault of the D-co is beyond me. Fewell has no feel for the game. He has no adjustments at halftime. He's a fucking joke and has been a fucking joke for 5 years now.

Fire him tomorrow morning. Start rebuilding the defense tomorrow.

For those who think Eli lost the game, you're right. He has to be perfect in order to win with this team and he made mistakes.

For those who think the defense lost the game, you're right. They no-showed in the last quarter and blew the lead late. No pressure, no coverage.

For those who blame Fewell, you're right. bad schemes, bad personel choices late in the game, bad overal strategy. They give up 30+ points way too often.

For those who blame Reese, you're right. This talentless roster couldn't beat a girl's high school team (there are a few exceptions but not many)and that fact has to be left right at his doorstep.

For those who blame Coughlin, you're right. He's the big cheese, he's the man repsonsible. You can't tell me he didn't see this coming. His coaching trajectory here mirrors his trajectory at Jacksonville (it did reach much higher but is ending the same way.) The Jags weren't sentimental about their sucess with Tom. They moved on when the stink of failure grew to great. Time for the Giants to do the same.

Hate to say it, but I don't think we can anymore. If we end up paying Eli top dollar, then have to surround him with a series of high draft picks/FA OL, then there won't be enough left to rebuild the rest of the team.

I don't like it one bit, because I do like Eli a lot - beyond the SBs, he's always been a gamer and a good soldier, and he's a solid citizen. He's been fantastic at times, and he's delivered on the biggest stage.

But - the guy needs more to work with than most of your other top shelf QBs. Not just an OL, but the other skill positions, and paying him another big contract just won't leave the funds we need to do that.

Would another team come in and gladly take him off our hands? I don't doubt it, but I think we'd both be better off that way. I don't see us rebuilding this team through the draft in enough time for Eli to be a part of it. We're at least a couple of seasons away that way.

the scores were tied in 4th quarter, down 6, and up 4. This team isn't completely devoid of talent. They just don't have enough to get over the hump late in games versus good teams.

Postives:

- ODB is the man.
- Schwartz did an excellent job at RT.
- I thought McAdoo called a really good game.

Negatives:

- The d-line is an embarrassment. Outside of Hankins & Ayers, none of them have earned their paychecks.
- I hope the Giants feel good about whatever lesson was taught by cutting Will Hill when they watch Demps play atrocious football week after week.
- Hosley and Kiwanuka are TERRIBLE football players.
- For a guy who will probably want a ton of money, JPP sure comes up small a lot.
- The o-line is still poor.
- The Giants have a grand total of ZERO TEs with the ability to run block. Donnell is single-handedly killing the running game when he's in there.
- Perry Fewell should've been fired during the bye.

Randle, Parker, Cruz (laid up in his bed with his return to health far from certain), Jennings, etc. are well below average skill position players when compared with other teams. Cooper is one of the few players for whom there's little question he'll succeed as a pro.

I don't really care for any of the o-linemen considered 1st round prospects outside of the LSU tackle. I would trade a shitload for Williams from USC. However, I don't think any of the top-flight DL fall to the Giants.

I would go for Iupati as our big FA and do whatever it takes to get Amari in the draft.

A line of Beatty-Iupati-Richburg-Schwartz-Pugh with an OL pick in round 2 (possibly as a left tackle to replace Beatty down the line) would work. Get Amari and the offense could be fire with Amari, Odell and hopefully Cruz at WR.

The defense actually has some talent, it just needs a LOT better coaching. If they add defense they need at least one LB, one pass rusher and a safety
So Fewell was a genius when he had a DL of
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2014 1:04 am : link

Did Ayers play tonight? He is our leading sackster with 6.

Ah, shit. You had to know that we were going to pay for those two magic years with some crap years. Life seems to work that way.

The genius that realized that was where the QB market was going and if they didn't pay him to keep their window open (and given how he dragged a bad team along for most of the year in 2011, to give them a chance to get hot, in order to win a SB, I'd say he kept it open probably more than this FO deserved), someone else would have gladly taken him off their hands in 2008.

Also: Eli's AAV of his contract is $16.2M. His $20M+ cap hit is what it is because of previous restructuring by the Giants and how they chose to lay the contract. It has nothing to do with Manning's value or even what he's pulling in in total; it's a matter of accounting by the Giants.

For the record, Alex Smith is a $17M AAV. Andy Dalton is a $19M AAV (though he won't see the full length of his deal). Joe Flacco is a $20.1M AAV. Carson Palmer's extension puts him at $16.6M (though he won't see the full length of his either).

If you're picking at 8 there's a pretty good chance that Brandon Scherff is gone, and then after that you've got Peat who I like but who I'd have to think long and hard about spending a top 10 pick on.

LT's have a big bust rate, and you have to be sure.

Iupati will be the most prized OG FA, guys like him make huge money. There will also be competition for him, its not like the Giants are the only game in town.

Pugh has played poorly this season. Schwartz played terribly at LG. Richburg just got benched? There are no sure things on this OL AT ALL. Well except that Jerry and Walton suck. Beatty choke holds DEs.

It has to be the draft, ok forget the 1st 2 rds. Draft an OT rd 1, that's a start. Maybe Pugh can kick inside. Beatty/Pugh/Richburg/Schwartz/Ogbuehi. They can draft Beatty's replacement next year when his contract is cuttable.

except a couple of bad plays - yeah. But, that INT was a terrible, terrible throw, in the red zone, with no pressure.

So, Eli wasn't the only reason for the loss, but he was A reason in this game. I like Eli, but he's got to make the easy plays.

The throw to Beckham that never was, that's a tougher call. You could hear Collinsworth say, "uh oh" as soon as OBJ got open and he thought it was a TD about to happen. It's hard to say if Eli could have/should have thrown it. I'd have to see it again to see why he couldn't. But, a 20 million dollar QB has a streaking WR get wide open...yeah, you'd like to see that ball in the air.

But, as usual for this year, this game ultimately came down to the D who shit the bed. Again. They're just pathetic, and it starts with PF because I have to think we have better talent to get a pass rush than we're managing to show. I mean, 7 fucking seconds...jeezus.

Need to focus on the OL and DL in the draft. You win games by controlling the LOS.

Eli played a very good game under the circumstances but has to make that completion to Parker in the red zone.

Cowboys are dynamic on offense but still have a weak defense that can be exploited. They are not a complete team by a long stretch....

Summed up perfectly. Ok, eli missed 2 throws but he threw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs while under siege (once again) for almost the whole night, he was NOT the fucking problem. The redskins killed romo by blitzing him and yet we go with a 4 man rush and let them march right down the field. Between having the wrong personnel on field, personnnel that shouldn't be on an NFL field and a coordinator who should've been fired last year this D is a fucking disgrace to the franchise.
A few years back Romo

didn't come through for the Cowboys if I remember correctly, but he's become a clutch player and yes he got protection but he's good. Last time we played them he went 9 for 9 in the second half.
Oh, and one more thing about this D
Giants4246 : 11/24/2014 7:54 am : link
Nice whiff by rolle on the gimme INT in the endzone. Yea we held them to a field goal but we lost by a field goal so good job rolle. Fucking idiot.

Losing is for loser's.

Rooting for your team to lose... Is a loserish thing to do.

Its bad fucking karma. Knock it off.

Exactly. Boomer basically said this morning need to change things up if OL is giving Romo 8-9 seconds to throw must blitz.

Has got to understand that this is not his father's NFL any more than this society is. Things have changed in significant ways. Adapt or die -- and your team is dying -- is the message.

There are better ways of evaluating football players and conditioning and training them now. There are sharper ways to figure out the business of who to pay how much and for how long. Then there's coaching: how to play in the NFL (each position has its nuances) and offensive and defensive schemes and plans. This is different now for successful NFL teams -- and the Giants, obviously, are no longer one of them. In all these regards the team seems to be living in the stone age.

Then there's NFL player talent, attitude, discipline, pride, grit, and NLF-level execution of what's been inculcated into them as NFL players. We pick crappy players, not having anyone who understands what physical and mental qualities it takes to play any position in the NFL as part of a winning team. We subject them to the poor management, training, and coaching apparatus we have now. We immerse them in a near 100%-dud player group that lacks established, well-performing veterans, not just people suiting up for NFL play and getting paid for it. What I'm talking about here are players who can and do teach newcomers the team's way, exhibit personal pride and professional expertise, discipline, attitude, and possess talent that's been battle tested in play for the team. (Eli was and maybe still is one, but with a weak attitude, poor as a communicator, his thinking and performance slowing down, and some fear in his eyes now. He's probably done now as a winner. We used to have a few others. Strahan and LT were that and stars, but we had non-stars who were good in these regards, too -- all gone now.) What we have at this point are just low-quality bullshitters. Most (except the rookies) are way overpaid, many are aging, and several are injury damaged.

So we get what have now, what we've seen last year and this one. Mara has to come to grips with this -- the fact that no one who works for this team is any good at any of the above except Beckham, whose excellence is almost sure to be diluted and dimmed by the awful state of affairs on this team if it is not straightened out. (The jury can be out on Pugh and Richburg, but, as the old song goes, "They don' impressa me much.")

All this must be fixed. It's not as if I'm saying this for the first time here, and this is not just a reaction to the last heart-rending loss, or the one before that, or the last six losses. The team has been disintegrating for years. Are we at bottom yet? I doubt it -- especially if things stay basically where they are and the direction from the top does not change radically to correct the current dismal overall state of Giants football.

We can only hope that the NY and NJ papers and the national NFL commentators hammer Mara about this, absolutely hammer and laugh at him -- embarrassing him into action, overcoming what looks like stiff-necked pride and endless vague bouts of excuse-making. Or maybe Mara really is just a dolt -- like those employees of his who've been failing in every way every day for the last few years. Or, worse, maybe it's just all about the ticket sales and the TV money -- which will come in even if the Giants are the new Raiders. That is, maybe he just doesn't really give a flying f#*k.
One thing's for sure:

BBI is full of morons.
Eli has a weak attitude and poorly communicates how exactly?
Riggies : 11/24/2014 9:22 am : link
The problems with this team aren't based in attitude or fire or grit or any of that crap.

They severely lack talent and the coaching doesn't do their jobs well enough to cover at all for it.

I don't see how he gets a pass, this team runs on first down EVERY TIME, putting us in crappy 3rd and longs where we can't protect the QB.

Because if you don't run the ball some, you can't pass it either.

The offense has been the problem almost never this season. Two or three games out of 11 at most.

The defense has, with rare exception, been tragically poor all season.

Giant "fans"?
giantsguy : 11/24/2014 10:39 am : link
I think there were as many Cowboy fans at the game as Giant fans, and that is something management is going to have to address. If the product is so poor that people sell their tickets and choose to not attend, well, that is really unacceptable to those of us that buy and use expensive tickets for every game. The product has to improve, but perhaps some sort of controls on sale of your season tickets to non-Giant fans should be imposed. I believe in free enterprise, but when the cry of "Defense, Defense" is louder coming from an opposition fanbase than from our loyal Giant people, something has to be done.
They let Tuck go. He wanted bad to come back and was willing
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2014 10:40 am : link
to take millions less. Not the player he was. No, but still a two ring guy, above average and capable of elevating his game, and a team leader just as important to the franchise as Carson and Banks. Coming off an eleven sack season.

They replaced Tuck with Kiwanuka, a guy who never produced anything and yet was about the only player to whom the Giants did give a big money contract extension.

You're gonna pay for mistakes like that.

They wouldn't put up the money to "overpay" Joseph, a high draft choice they hit on who anchored their run defense. Lots of eyebrows raised around the league when they let him go.

Sometimes you have to overpay players. Would you rather overpay Joseph a million a year or have the worst run defense in the league?

They sure as hell overpay Manning.
and they wasted the best catch of all time!
djm : 11/24/2014 10:44 am : link
so every time they show Beckham's catch 20 years from now we will be reminded that they lost that game. Mother fuckers!!!!

I hate this team right now. All of them.

Best possible outcome??? Losing to dallas is always the worst possible outcome.

I am amazed at the lack of profound hatred for the Cowboys. I see NYG fans that hate them, but they really don't hate them enough.

That loss sucked on every level and will bother me all season. 4 straight god damned losses to this shit fucking franchise. FOUR@!!!! Fuck the draft pick.

And you're out of your mind too.

If dallas wins the super bowl you will all want to kill yourselves. IF the Giants won last night we all but would have eliminated any chance that Dallas would have a bye week and home field...now that hope is very much still alive.

Will you be enjoying the 1-2 spot draft slot difference while watching Dallas host a playoff game and being one win away from the NFC Title game? Hope so...
Oh, and who do they replace Joseph with?
Reese's Pieces : 11/24/2014 10:49 am : link
Mike Patterson, Cullen Jenkins, cheap cast-offs from other teams, and MARKUS KUHN.

This regime has had a good, long, successful run by NFL standards, eleven years and two Super Bowls.

But now just a complete train wreck. Get the bulldozers to push the train off the track and start over.

I would never accept playing to get a better draft position. I don't even accept it as a hindsight look at the results. Herm Edwards may get made fun of for his quote, but you play to win the game.

I'd rather watch Dallas win 10 Super Bowls than watch Philly win 1. And Dallas is still best positioned (along with, hopefully, the Giants in week 17) to eliminate Philly.
then you don't live among dallas fans
djm : 11/24/2014 1:08 pm : link
i always fear and respect the team that has won in the past. Dallas has 5. Philly has lol.

If Philly won 2 in a row they still can't talk much shit to the Giants fan even if they insist on doing. The Giants have flat out had a better history. The head to head record, incredible as it sounds, still favors the Giants. Let Philly talk shit, we can just remind them of FOUR rings.

Dallas has a winning record against the Giants. They completely skull fuct this franchise from late 60s through early 80s in absolutely embarrassing fashion. Even under Coughlin and Eli, a golden Era of sorts, we didn't even manage to finish with a winning record against Dallas...they had one...then lost 4 in a row and promptly lost that winning edge. We have 2007. We have 2011...and that allows for the Giants fan to pretty much handle any shit from the Dallas fan....at least for now..but 4 losses in a row doesn't help and now Dallas is primed for a run.

Even when the Giants LOSE to Philly in brutal fashion NU has managed to win NFL titles in that same season. They have turned monumental losses to Philly into fuel for a super bowl title one year later.

When we lose to Dallas BAD things happen. When we beat Dallas good things happen. I'm telling you, this franchise needs to beat Dallas as often as possible or they won't go anywhere. That include(d) this season. As we go against Dallas we go period.

4 straight losses...SHIT.
and if we are 4-0 against Dallas
djm : 11/24/2014 1:11 pm : link
Coughlin isn't getting shit canned after this season. We beat Philly in 2012. We beat Philly in 2013. Got us nowhere.

I can see if you live in Philly...i'd be dead set against that fan base too but if you live in North Jersey or anywhere outside of Philly, you have to hate Dallas more. I can't understand how you wouldn't.
