but ODB is special. It's really sick what he can do... he has it all. deep, med, short. long speed. stop on a dime, sudden. he can dominate 1 on 1 anytime.
plus it seems he has the intangibles. competetitor, rises to the occasion, loves the bright lights, humble, hard working
he's the only thing keeps me watching right now
and i like the way macadoo is using him. if cruz comes back close to what he was, and donell develops. . . We are ! good OL and depth away from being a top Offense
You take an elite WR over and elite guard every day
...even if you wanted someone else, there is no denying he is a top talent.
If you want to complain, complain about drafting a center in a draft not especially strong with centers, and then only to play him at guard (?!?). And then drafting a DT project in the 3rd instead of the many quality OL still available.
And not drafting one single other OL when the 2014 draft was the deepest at OG and OT in a decade. That draft could have set us up with starters AND quality depth for at least 5 years.
I wanted the Giants to take Martin on draft day (and Marcus Martin in Round 2). The offensive line would have been a lot stronger with the "two Martins." On the other hand, if Beckham stays healthy (always a big if especially for a WR), he was clearly the right choice. You can argue about Richburg in Rd 2 and I was happy with the pick, but Beckham last night showed why he was the right pick in Rd 1. That said, this OL is putrid, and other posters are right that not drafting another OL man, especially in Rd 3, was a colossal error. I truly hope Reese never gets to draft another player for this team. Think of Beckham as his parting gift to the team like Matt Millen drafting Calvin Johnson for Detroit before he was given the pink slip.

This team is in the middle of what should be a 2-3 year rebuild that started last season (and should have started a year prior). The only way you can evaluate the Martin vs. OBJ decision, imo, given that they BOTH look to be elite level studs, is to wait a few years and take a look at the total resource pool that ended up being available.
That is, the Giants had needs at both WR and OL (and elsewhere). To decide whether taking what they believed to be an elite level WR over the OL, we'll have to look at the rest of the draft (for example, how good does Richburg end up being and how good do other WRs taken around Richburg end up being), what's available in FA this year/who do we end up drafting, and how do each of them continue to progress?
If we have filled the holes on the OL by the end of 2015 or 2016 AND Beckham ends up being the stud he looks to be....I will have no regrets on taking him over Martin. If Beckham becomes that guy but we are unable to find the right guy on the OL, the question becomes whether there was somebody else that could have filled our need at WR available without committing that pick. Only time will tell....but my early sense is that I have a hard time seeing how we are ever going to regret the OBJ pick...assuming he stays healthy/committed (can we IR him for the rest of the year right now btw?)
on top of being a physical freak he's got great football smarts too. thrilled he is in big blue and his progression (along with hopefully playing time for some of the younger future giants) is one reason to stay tuned to giants games for the rest of the season. he may end up being one of the dominant receivers in the NFL for years to come.
I just hope all this hype isn't too much too soon.
He's deserved it, 100%.. but he's young and all of a sudden, he's seeing and hearing about himself everywhere. Some guys are humble and equipped to handle it, others get really wrapped up in it.
He's not going to fly under anyone's radar anymore. Hopefully he knows he's got a lot of work to do to maintain this because it's going to keep getting harder.

All fair points, but he doesn't strike me as the type of kid to let it get to him. His passion/disappointment at the end of the 49ers game told me a lot about him.

This is a hungry young man.
Sure seems to be. Hell, he caught that ball like a starving man, uncertain of when or if his next meal might come.
And being in a new job, of course I've bonded with coworkers by trash talking our sports teams.
Hasn't been much to hype the Giants about this season, but even the biggest Giant haters among them were splooshing over Ole Dirty Beckham this morning...
I like Richburg, and would take OBJ and Richburg 1-2 over
It's a different position with a different impact. I'm thrilled Beckham is a Giant, but I'd be happy with Martin as a Giant as well.
Odell Beckham was wincing in pain as he was getting dressed. Could barely pull up his pants #giants
agree, Both are going to be (if stays healthy) good players for their respective teams
you can't go out and sign an odell beckham
plus it seems he has the intangibles. competetitor, rises to the occasion, loves the bright lights, humble, hard working

Real reason his back hurts is from carrying the team all night.
That's the best catch I've ever seen
LeBron James @KingJames
Man I just witnessed the greatest catch ever possibly by Odell Beckham Jr! WOW!!!!
Richard Sherman @RSherman_25
My Goodness.... That young man is bad!!!!
Shaun O'Hara @ShaunOHara60
Words I never thought I would say. "David Tyree has competition for best catch by a NYG" @Giants #Superhuman
Cris Carter @criscarter80
That's as good as it gets Odell Beckum Jr.
Peter King @SI_PeterKing
The hype is real.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
So we will see Odell Beckham Jr. at the ESPYs...and he can use those same hands to accept the Play of the Year award.
NBC Sports @NBCSports
Oh my, Odell Beckham. That was amazing. @OBJ3 @SNFonNBC

Love the kids attitude. Said he has a bruise. He'll be sore tomorrow, but shouldn't keep him out of next weeks game.

His name doesn't have spaces between the letters though.
BUT,
one is a game-breaker by himself while the other is not. Go with the game-breaker 10 out of 10 times.

My favorite part of that gif -- aside from the catch, obviously -- is the reaction of the guy on the right standing next to the woman in the red coat.
