Which players are keepers for next year and beyond

chris r : 11/24/2014 1:45 am
Which players on the Giants do you hope are part of the team next year? For me it's:

Offense:
Eli
Nassib
Jennings
Williams
Donnell
Beckham Jr
Cruz (assuming recovery)
Pugh
Schwartz
Richburg

Defense:
Hankins
Bromley
JPP (not at 2011 prices and moved to LE)
Moore (still have hope)
Ayers
Kennard
DRC
Prince
McBride
Tayler
Behre

That's 21 players if my counting is right. The cupboard is really pretty bare.
It's not the players

it's the coaches.
forgot to include Thurmond

.
Rolle probably comes back at a cheaper price
PetesHereNow : 11/24/2014 1:48 am : link
I think he wants a career in broadcasting post NY career.

I'd also add Washington, Harris, Rogers Gaines, maybe Mosley.
Other than Beckham, I really have no attachment to anyone

else being on the roster going forward, sticking for the long haul.

Frankly, while not rational, if I never saw anyone from the defense that played tonight again in a Giant uniform, I would no shed tears.
I doubt

Rolle and Thurmond re-sign here.
Good list, I think you nailed it.
bceagle05 : 11/24/2014 1:50 am : link
I don't have high hopes for many of those defensive guys, but I suppose we have to keep some of them.
DRC, Prince, Hankins and JPP
bceagle05 : 11/24/2014 1:53 am : link
are the only guys I view as starters on a good defense. Maybe Kennard someday. Rolle hasn't played as well as last year - he's lost a step.
Beatty almost certainly sticks for another year
bigbluescot : 11/24/2014 1:54 am : link
he's a terribly average LT but he'd cost more to cut than it would to keep him next year (you'd lose $8,150,000 in dead money as opposed to paying him $8,050,000)

Eric,
I would really like to know why you see it this way. Rolle has been treated well. Do you know of him personally being fed up with the team? It would be understandable. Is Thurmond fed up?
as long as Walton, Jerry, Hosley and Kiwi are long gone
SHO'NUFF : 11/24/2014 2:04 am : link
from a blue jersey, I'm good. Same goes for Fewell, Quinn, Flaherty, Nunn and Hermann.
Horrible premonition:
Blackbeard : 11/24/2014 2:07 am : link
By the time this team is again 'top drawer' Eli is past his prime and Beckham is a free agent.
and Fewell is still DC
SHO'NUFF : 11/24/2014 2:13 am : link
OH THE HORROR!!
Do I remember right,
Gregorio : 11/24/2014 2:15 am : link
did John Mara make a statement at the beginning of the 2014 season, that he does not expect to be as active in free agency in 2015 as he was in 2014?

It's very likely a combination of the two.
If Fewell stays...

...its all irrelevant.
Something is wrong
rocco8112 : 11/24/2014 6:15 am : link
with the defense. The o looks on the uptick to me, just needs more talent up front.

The D is a goddamn joke. They will always ALWAYS fold in a big spot.

Gotta blow up the D

Nothing like the prevent defense to prevent your team from winning the game. Any quarterback (except maybe Dave Brown) could have engineered that last drive with that much time to throw.
JPP

Showed me his value on that last drive. Not worth significant cap space. He is not a consistent force to the qb. Rolle is not worth any considerable amout of cash and I would try to resign Thurmond.

Agreed. I think the talent with some additions on the OL and WR are on the up.

The Defense is where the majority of the problems are. I do not think the scheme suits what talent is on the roster. The secondary, when healthy, is very solid but the DL, and LB areas are just plain bad.

Can anyone tell me
Glover : 11/24/2014 7:16 am : link
where I can see how many snaps Giants players played? I see Jay Bromley on this list, but I never hear his name. Not advocating giving up on a 3rd round pick after one season, but I just want to know exactly how much this guy sees the field.
Character was a big plus in drafting him.
Our personnel people
TMS : 11/24/2014 8:08 am : link
Reese and Ross do not have a clue about evaluating talent that will succeed in this league. Until we replace them we will have more of the same. Spending FA $$$ trying to fix problems that should have been addressed in the drafts. Picking up vets who are looking for golden parachute contracts who get hurt shortly after we acquire them. It could get worse before it gets better with this crew making the decisions.
Thurmond
bronxct1 : 11/24/2014 10:05 am : link
I don't see why he wouldn't re-sign here. Seemed like he was fitting in nicely until his injury.

I believe it's mostly on the players. Coaching has it's ups and downs (normal), but they're not the real problem here. It lies on the players imho.
