JPP...Gone

NewBlue : 11/24/2014 6:44 am
He played well last night, but when it was on the line in the 4th Q he and the rest of that sieve of a defense came up small, when the media looked for comment from JPP after the game.......he was gone.

What happened last night proved to me that every component of this defense again did not come to play.
1. The coaching was pathetic, they absolutely NEVER get home on a blitz.

2. The GM has infused crap wearing blue uni's.

3. The players never can summon up their talents to make one big stop when needed

So...coaching, GM, lack of leadership

I'm not giving him the $ he's going to want.
I wasnt upset
Glover : 11/24/2014 6:57 am : link
when they didnt pay LJ, but at least he was a good DT, maybe not worth to the Giants what the Vikings paid him, but he was a good consistent player. Cant say that about JPP.
JPP has absolutley NO ONE
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 11/24/2014 7:01 am : link
next to him....

I wouldn't break the bank on him... He plays the run very well and would be best off moved to the other side.

That said, if he doesn't give the hometown discount I wouldn't over pay for him. But then again what else are you left with?

W/O JPP there is no one else on this roster....

JPP was playing one of the best tackles in football last night and did a good job for much of the game. He was gassed in the fourth, the product of having nobody else to take the pressure off of him, or at least of being unwilling to play anyone capable of taking the pressure off of him lest we be even worse against the run. He isn't worth Top 10 DE money, but after OBJ he was the least of our problems last night.

NewBlue : 11/24/2014 7:12 am : link
If he was playing outstanding football and last night you want to talk about him being gassed in the 4th Q. FINE but this mediocre at best play by him has been consistent. Not to mention the cap ramifications if you sign him to what he will want....
Here is problem
Rjanyg : 11/24/2014 7:19 am : link
Moore may be the best pass rusher on this team and I don't think he was out there on the last drive. That is a coaching problem and that goes on Fewell and Coughlin. He needs to be on the field in that situation over Kiwi.
And Kiwi is good at what?
NewBlue : 11/24/2014 7:23 am : link
Moore needs to play every down...94 is taking up space
Its pretty obvious...
silverfox : 11/24/2014 7:26 am : link
...that our star players (Eli, JPP, etc) are only as good as the guys lining up with them. Neither one can carry an offense or defense on their shoulders, and neither one henceforth should be paid as if they can.

blueblood'11 : 11/24/2014 7:28 am : link
I couldn't agree with you more. As for JPP I'd bring him back but not Kiwi. That will free up even more cap space and bring a Suh or an Avril. I still feel the defensive scheme under Fewell is what is doing this unit in. Look at the Eagels defense. There are no superstars to speak of. But they get after the quarterback come hell or high water and Bill Davis their DC is the guy responsible. He changes things up and puts a lot of pressure on the opposing teams offensive line to adjust. And more often then not they get pressure to upset the play.
JPP
stretch234 : 11/24/2014 7:37 am : link
Hypothetically, who is playing DE for the Giants if not JPP. The coaches wont even play Moore right now, so next year it would be Ayers and Moore as the starters.

There is no DE in the draft that high who is an every down starter from Day 1. The 2 top rated DE are 245lb players.

I am a huge Husker fan, but Gregory is part of a defensive team that can't stop the run against any marginal team

Scherf is not a LT in the NFL, Collins is not worth the top 10, Is Ogbuechi a LT in the NFL, is Peat. If either of those guys were the sure thing LT they would be rated higher

the giants should keep jpp
GiantNatty : 11/24/2014 7:43 am : link
and i hope they will
He had
Gmen in 2012 : 11/24/2014 7:45 am : link
2 tackles. He played just stellar are you guys for real. Aside from that one tackle which possibly saved a TD on Murray this guy was non existent yet again, any time we needed a sack or pressure romo had coffee and cake back their. You guys must have different Tvs then me or your watching the 2011 cowboy games
Run
jamesmichaelworm : 11/24/2014 7:58 am : link
A reverse or misdirection to any of the ends they will crash in
I still don't know why they haven't flipped JPP to LDE
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 11/24/2014 8:07 am : link
He is by far the best run defender and he'd be taking on weaker pass blocking RTs. Kiwanuka can't hold an edge to save his life, so put him on the right-hand side.

Just shows no ingenuity on the part of the staff. I understand why they didn't resign Tuck, but the 1 year at 3 mil would've been better than this crap.
The offensive line, blocks to the right....
Doomster : 11/24/2014 8:13 am : link
NO one blocks JPP, and he crashes into the line....Murray takes a hand off to the left and there is no one there...no one.....this is MURRAY!.....No JPP....no linebacker....it was a freakin' joke....and this isn't the first time, this has happened this year.....this is the 11th game of the year...same mistakes on defense.....PF has to go....
He played ok last night. Overall they whole DL was manhandled
Victor in CT : 11/24/2014 8:14 am : link
by the Dallas OL. While they don't have any better options, JPP is not a guy to break the bank on.

agree. been saying it for 2 years
Maybe he was in the toilet when the media was looking for him
Giants4246 : 11/24/2014 8:22 am : link
.
He's
AcidTest : 11/24/2014 8:42 am : link
just going to want too much money given his production and injury history. Criticism of his performance has to be tempered with the realization that he does as someone said have nobody to help him, and he has been very good against the run. But he isn't worth the money he will want.
For everyone ready to get rid of JPP
sjnyfan : 11/24/2014 9:49 am : link
Just remember that Strahan started at RDE before being switched to LDE by Mike Nolan. He also didn't have double digit sacks until his FIFTH year in the league. JPP like Strahan is a great run defender. In fact he's rated #1 among 4-3 DE's and #2 overall in the league behind Muhammad Wilkerson who of course plays the 3-4. You're not going to find that in this draft or FA this year.

I don't want to break the bank on him either but with Kiwi and Beason likely to be cap casualties among others, and an increase in the salary cap I'm willing to negotiate. Then with the new DC (and there better be a new one next year), move him to LDE, start either Ayers or Moore on the other side, and now we're talking.
We cannot keep letting draft picks walk out the door
BlueHurricane : 11/24/2014 9:53 am : link
It is one of the main problems with this shit roster. Our roster has been gutted and is now filled with a ton of FA's. It is an indication of the horrific drafting we have had. How many players on this roster are on their second contract from us?

I am not saying we need to sign JPP but we have not retained any draft picks lately. Its part of the problem and a big part.

What he wants is immaterial. What matters is what some other team would be willing to pay him. The only thing we can say right now is that he's not playing at a high enough level to merit using a Franchise tag.

There is a dollar-figure at which retaining him makes sense. We'll see if another team is willing to offer him more.
He can walk
ImaGiant86 : 11/24/2014 9:59 am : link
He generates no pressure anymore from his side and routinely gets handled one on one.

I'd sign him
Marty866b : 11/24/2014 10:16 am : link
Depends on the money,of course. he should move to the left side and we need to bring in a pass rusher for the blindside.Maybe finally give Moore a real chance there after another off season of weight training and gain. I hate letting all our high draft choice players leave after their initial contract.
I'd much rather see Reese go then JPP.
