It was must catch on the biggest stage, he had to go high, and he had a very good DB right on him who HIT THE BALL and yet he used his helmet to secure it. And as he landed and was bent back he juuuust kept the tip of the ball off the ground. That was incredible, in the true sense of not believable.
The crazy thing is that OBJ's catch would have been just as mindboggling if it occurred anywhere else in a different circumstance when you look at the skills needed to make that three finger grab of a 40+ yard bomb coming in at such an angle. However, when you throw in the pass interference, him staying in-bounds by mere inches, and falling into the endzone cleanly, the catch isn't just mindboggling, it's epic.
the crazy thing for me is that I thought I saw the best catch I'd see
this year already in the UVA-Miami game when Canaan Severin stole an INT from the Miami safety and turned it into a one-handed TD catch. That one was amazing and Beckham blew it out of the water.

That catch definitely is incredible as well. However, the angle of OBJ catch and the fact that he used just one hand throughout the catch process and not bat it into his other hand or arm like most one handed catches we've seen in the past makes OBJ's catch just so mindboggling and epic.
obj's catch was sick, no doubt. but tyree's? in that spot of the biggest game of their lives? pinning it against his helmet and then clutching it with two hands and not letting it hit the ground when he landed? that was awesome. because of the context, tyree gets the nod.
watching the UM safety in that GIF just cracks me up
Eli throws balls that require circus catches to complete?
If there was no interference, the pass would have been and outside shoulder pass that you want in a situation like that. That's the kind of pass that Eli should have thrown in the Seahawks game.
But, in my opinion, there isn't even a debate here. OBJ's catch may be the best catch ever, and I am not saying that lightly, nor are the countless analysts who have played the game who are saying the same thing. He caught the ball, not just one handed, but with 3 fingers on one hand. He did this while being interfered with and held and in the air and with the ball behind his head and landing on his backside and never touching the ball in the process with his other hand.
because of the context. But if we are talking purely about the best, most freakish catch, it's Beckham's from last night. He was interfered with, was falling towards the sideline and leapt backwards and snagged it with three fingers on one hand horizontally. If he had leapt and rotated any further he would have landed out of bounds. That he did rotate backwards, but also used his arm to nag it as flexed back as possible allowed him to also stay in bounds. It was the reason we watch sports and athletics-- to see something we didn't think was possible.
And then when they show his pre-game warmups before, it confimred the skill aspect of it. It was like watching Ichiro make crazy spider-man catches in batting practice to train himself to bep repared in all situations.
Manningham's catch was beautiful but it was the throw by Eli that was sublime - 40 yards down the field and dropped it right into manningham's hands as he was covered and a safety was approaching for the hit. tyree pinning it against his helmet with harrison on him like peanut butter on jelly was the more difficult catch.
But damn, that physics-defying grab last night, made me do a double take.
OBJ just made a great catch.
What makes it so much better is that we all have seen 1 handed catches. But how many three finger behind the head catches have you seen?
The answer is.... none.
Completely agree.

I would think the interference was the cause of the circus than the throw?

lol. It's just too easy to get your goat, dep. I knew you'd jump on that, but I didn't think it would be that quick :)

I didnt know if you were serious or not. It wouldnt surprise me if people blamed Eli for not hitting him the chest there....haha
HH, perfectly put. 100% agree.
Level of difficulty? CNN's site already asks the question Was that the best catch ever in the NFL.
That was the greatest catch in NFL history... I'm sure youll remember it.
However, Beckham's was surely the most athletic and jaw-dropping of any catch I've ever seen, bar none.
pretty simple for me to differentiate.
the play was eli eluding the sack... the moment... the catch.
the catch by odell was just absurd. on every level and metric. best of all time

That's what she said.
