I'd love for Eli to be the QB here for the next 4-5 years, but I really hope he is willing to sign a team friendly contract to help build the pieces around him. The NFL isn't that hard to figure out, you need good line play and be able to move the ball down the field. It isn't like other sports where it takes a 2-3 year rebuilding period. Look at Dallas, when you have protection it makes all the difference in the world.
I hope Eli realizes the value for putting up another 3-4 very solid years for his career and have a chance to win. Eli can play with the best of them, but unlike Rodgers, Brady, Peyton, and Luck, he needs the pieces around him.
Eli has had a solid year for the most part and actually think the McAdoo offense can be successful, we just need more pieces.
D. Thomas/E. Sanders/J. Thomas
yep...imagine if they had weapons
Eli's worth will only be found once he retires, or leaves.
Imagine BBI's wrath if, for just $2 million more a year than the Giants offer he signed with Houston or the Rams.
It would appear the strategy for NYG is to work towards a shorter extension, something like three years, which brings us up to Eli's 37th b-day.
Keep working towards a better OL, get him another weapon at WR, and things will be looking up.
HOWEVER, that said:
1. Isn't Condon the agent that is most cooperative with the Giants in negotiating, and even if he is not,
2. Eli wants to win, which in part goes with his history of picks because he puts Ws and Ls on himself, and I believe he will leave money on the table AND work a contract, so the Giants can do their best offseason shopping. He also knows getting an Iupati and other OL help will save his life, as well as his career.
I THINK the Giants will probably have 25M to work with, and only a couple of guys worth re-signing, plus a likely cap increase, so they can go all out in FA with some give-back, if I am correct.
OPTIMUS where are you?
Reese and Ross, the coaching staff, are not suddenly going to become good at their jobs, because there's a few million more for them to play with.
The hole the Giants are in, they're going to be in for awhile regardless of what Manning is making or, more accurately, counting for against the cap.
Overthecap Tom Brady Contract - ( New Window )
Essentially his deal is $60 million guaranteed for 3 years.
With the cap hit spread over 5 years.
If he plays into the last two years, he'll get another extension and more money.

Yes. Thanks for the link to the article. While I see that the article emphasizes future cap hits, if I look at this contact only, it still looks favorable thru 2017. I understand that Brady and the Pats may have an agreement to renegotiate that contract in a year or so. But if they don't, then the contract is very reasonable by today's standards. Either you have to pay Eli for about 4 or 5 years, or you have to say next year is Eli's last year.
I'd be willing to be Eli was telling the truth when he said he had a strong desire to finish his career here. Let's put him to the test and see if he'll take $15 million a year so we can rebuild the team. I bet he would.
His endorsement value in NY must be far higher than any other market as well. That Dunkin Donuts deal alone must be worth $3-4 milllion a year.
