I criticized letting Joseph go at the time - I thought he would get closer to $8M. I especially thought Joseph was the better choice over Beason for that value.
We wouldn't be a playoff team with Joseph, but we would be better.
and both the offense AND the defense lost the game tonight.
Was pressure the problem? Maybe. But where does it rank next to blown coverages, or the 10,000 other problems on Defense?
And of course, both sides of the ball mailed it in for the second half of the game.
Sorry to take the "Stating the obvious" crown from you on this thread...
Also, while we're whipping the defense, this was the 5th game of the year where they've given up 30 points (and it's only been 11 games).

The solution to a poor pass rush is Linval Joseph? Seriously??
had no steam on his throws last night....that back must have been bothering him.....and yet, it's amazing what 8 seconds, and having a safety like Demps can do for your throwing game....
Did anyone notice how the Dallas defense was bracketing OBj in the second half?
DRC had to overplay Dez when he cut towards the middle of the endzone, because he knows Demps is standing like a statue back there....by doing so, Dez easily cut back to the corner of the endzone with DRC trailing.....that wouldn't have happened if he had confidence in Demps...

Britt made a comment about the lines, not just the pass rush. With that said, I think Joseph would be fourth on the team in sacks right now.
They do, but what was the worst thing that could have happened if we sent pressure on that last drive?
If they were going to score either way I'd rather it have happened quickly and at least Romo would have had to get the ball out faster. Maybe he would have made a mistake.
LoL, you have a coaching staff that proclaimed that Kiwi
Have Moore and Ayers on the bench when you need to rush the passer. Coughlin's insistence on playing Kiwi
Is that Coughlin? I would think Fewell is making rotation decisions on the D.
He's the Head Coach? He just said earlier in the week he can Change anything he wants. Some of you think he's just there and not responsible for anything.

Not making excuses -- he had the power to fire Fewell this offseason. Just saying my understanding was he left lineup power on the D to Fewell.
forever be perplexing to me. He's so ineffective and what's even more surprising is that he's so often out of position leaving the edge vulnerable to any back bouncing outside. Watching him driven so far out of play on the pass rush repeatedly was like watching an instant replay over and over again.
As Arc referenced, I would rather them go down with a swift kick to the nuts by blitzing when Dallas was near or in the red zone, as opposed to the slow and certain death we had to suffer through.
I was sure we would lose this one though I hoped we played with heart, to which we did, but to have a chance to win only to go down that way was more painful than getting blown out. Watching Jerrah and the rest of those fucks celebrating in our house is one of the most sickening sights I can ever witness as a Giants fan, period!
You may be 100% correct but there is no shot in hell of stopping an NFL QB if he has 8 secs. Your only option is to at least try to attack with a blitz.

Do you have some kind of inside info as to how you continue to make these claims about TC insisting on who is playing on a certain down? I get that you don't like him but just pulling claims like this out of your ass serves no purpose
Apparently, the water guys have more authority over this team than a HC. Yet everyone proclaims he is irreplaceable. I keep asking but what is role on this team.
Reese and Ross get blame for talent, Fewell for defense and their playing time and development. Now even McAdoo is getting KG's blame. Players get blame for not even coming up with game plans themselves. Hell I saw a couple of Ronnie Barnes gotta go threads.
In what universe would a HC not have a say in who is playing on the final drives in a game.

You do realize he has schemes developed by his coord's involving specific personal correct? Its not HS ball where Jimmy Athlete needs to get in there at the last minute for the go-ahead TD. Coughlin is an offense HC, that is his specialty, but the defensive playcalling and scheming comes down to Fewell
I can see Coughlin not getting involved with the defensive schemes - but on that drive, do you really think he couldn't point out 'hey, doofus - why aren't our best pass rushers in there when we know they're going to pass?'.
Also think we're doing the defense another disservice - the offense got the ball with a minute left, 3 timeouts, against a shit defense - and couldn't muster a single fucking timeout. Everyone likes to point out how the O go the 'go ahead TD' - well, they didn't. Dallas did. We didn't respond. The O owns this shit every bit as much as the D.
rather lose by blitzing romo all night, forcing some bad throws and beating him up a bit but maybe getting beat on some unfavourable 1 on 1 matchups than lose by having romo sit in the pocket for 10 seconds having a cup of joe until a receiver inevitably breaks free while our front four gets toyed with by the offensive line.

Me too. Dare I say a cowardly gameplan by Fewell.
RE: So you think Belichick is not telling McDaniels
What personnel he wants on the field because his background is defense?? Mike McCarthy has no say on the Packers defense? Good grief.
If you can't understand how things work during the game and the fact that he has a DC who makes those decisions, I can't help you. Look i know you want this to fit into your rant against TC, but the fact remains that NFL staffs have preordained schemes/personal packages/etc..They have a devised strategy in place for every situation that these players practice all season with. the last thing the HC is going to do is meander over and demand switching personal around for those packages in the last min of a game. That is how you get stupid penalties like "Too many men on the field" or players asking those around them what to do because they never played in that personal package before.
Blame him for not demanding earlier in the week that they get more playing time in crunch time, but sitting here claiming he purposely held them out during the game is ridiculous.

Maybe we were in a prevent package with someone as a spy on Romo that involved different personal? He is not going to go over and start tweaking the DC's personal packages with 32 secs to make the tweak. He is not the one making the DC calls
Look Coughlin deserves a ton of blame for this loss
I hated his whimpy strategy to start the second half. I thought he went prevent too early also. In all the whole second half of that game we were in it due to Eli and OBJ, not the staff.
But he is not involved making personal decisions in-game on Defense off the cuff. That is not how TC works and mayube he actually should change that
The solution to a poor pass rush is Linval Joseph? Seriously??
How many rushing yards is this defense giving up?
Having Joseph and Hankins on the inside would 100% open things up for JPP.
It would make a marked difference on this D.
Beason has always been chronically injured. Not sure why anyone expected him to stay healthy. Much rather would have had Joseph in the long haul. Added bonus: No need to draft Bromley, could have spent that 3rd rd pick on someone else.

I agree SY. I really REALLY like Beason, I am a huge fan... but I would much rather have kept Linval. Of course 20/20 hindsight and all that but it's pretty clear that would have been the better course. And I don't care what anyone says letting go of Will Hill for smoking a doob was idiotic.
the offense lets us down, this week the defense. Though that Eli interception in the redzone was devastating. Shoulda been at least 3 there, but regardless our offense did some scoring last night. Defense has to come up with a stop. No pressure Fewell just gave it to them.
Typical Fewell defensive philosophy, drop back, hope for a INT
If the front 4 (sometimes 3) can get pressure & cause a bad throw then great, if not hope the numbers (more players on D dropping back than potential receivers on offense) help you get a INT, or at least knock the ball down.
Seems like TO's is all I ever hear him talking about. So sick of this shit. So sick of watching him on the sidelines.
We wouldn't be a playoff team with Joseph, but we would be better.

May?
I even looked up some stats.

You have to send extra rushers and get someone free. The way we played that entire series was just so maddening and so terrible. It made me nauseous.
You could have put ME under center for Dallas on that drive and I would have won the game for them and I'm not even kidding.

Must be embarrassing for the individuals.
Not much to do...did the Cowboys get away with holding maybe?

But because we sent 4 down linemen. And nothing else. Over and over and over again.
Nothing.

And for the love of God, stop playing Kuhn and Kiwanuka.
You watch next week how Philly comes after him, and tries to bang him around.
I'm not saying the Eagles win, but Romo will have to earn it.
It's almost like he got a free pass last night.
