How bad is OL? Dallas is 27th in Sacks in NFL

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2014 8:55 am
The Giants are actually 26th.

We are so far away from competing with the big boys

Most consider Dallas one of the "big boys" and we were 3 minutes from the upset.

Fix the pass rush and get some speed at LB and this team could compete. Need another mauling OG, but I don't think the OL is that far off. Beatty-FA-Richburg-Scwartz-Pugh could be much better than what we've seen all year.
It's like we have

Not only that, but Dallas had a terrible night, too.
Tons of penalties.

Who do you call the big boys? Niners? Cowboys? They should have beat both, if they could just overcome this shitty coaching staff
Not sure where we will draft
MikeN in Ottawa : 11/24/2014 9:08 am : link
because we could very well win our next three games. St. Louis is also a possible win although I think we lose to the Eagles so let's say we finish 6-10. Probably a top ten pick.

I still believe firmly that offensive line or at least a top tackle, if available, should be our focus. I wouldn't spend a top ten pick on a guard unless there is clear evidence he is dominant. I am not sure about Beatty. I know the cap hit is big but I still wonder about moving Pugh inside to guard and moving Beatty to RT if a big time LT is available.

This team can compete
Andy in Boston : 11/24/2014 9:18 am : link
Next year with a really good offseason and they have $. This is today's NFL..... Teams do it every year. Make a run at Suh or Mcnight and maybe Iaputi.
If you are extending Eli...
AnnapolisMike : 11/24/2014 9:22 am : link
I think you make a plays for some really good free agent talent for Oline help. If it is there.
And they rarely blitzed.
Section331 : 11/24/2014 9:24 am : link
They were able to get pressure rushing 4 guys, and it wasn't pressure from one guy, it was usually 2 or 3.
I can't imagine what St Louis is going to do to this bunch.
Riggies : 11/24/2014 9:33 am : link
They aren't a good team, but they can get after a QB even against good OLs.

This OL is going to have no chance that game.
Another illusion.....

Dallas is not really that good of a team......this is a watered down NFC this year, and this Giant team does not have the ability to compete in it...The Dallas defense sucks for the most part......their best defense is an offense that controls the game clock with that running game....

Fix the pass rush? How? Overpay JPP? Watch how Ayers performs as a starter, as opposed to a situational pass rusher.....will we ever see what Moore can do as a starter?

Not one linebacker on this team, could start for another team....our linebacker situation has been like this for years, and all of a sudden it will be fixed?

Did you watch Beatty after those first three scores? What a freakin' horror show!

Schwartz was given a lot of credit, for getting in the way of a weak Dallas DL.....I'm not not sold on this overpaid guard....

We have yet to see Richburg play center....

Better hope that it is injuries and not talent that has taken Pugh down this year.....

Not one TE who can block....

This OL is far from being set.....

Oh, did I mention, that if just one starter goes down, members of BBI can go down to MetLife for a tryout?
Maybe,just
NYBEN : 11/24/2014 9:47 am : link
maybe ,it's the offensive line coach. We have had the same results from this o-line no matter who is playing. J.D. Walton looks just like David Baas to me, and let's be honest we have ALWAYS struggled converting short yardage even in the hey day of O'Hara, Snee and Suebert. The one common thread is the O-line coach, IMO he should have been let go with the other offensive coaches that were shown the door.
Wow, reading BBI

explains why there is no easy answer. Some are all doom and gloom and others we are on the cusp and then the middle of the road who thinks we just need a player hear or there to change things.

The reality is in a very watered down NFl the Giants aren't even middle of teh road right now. The Rams are a much better team and if Eli were their QB they would be a 7 win team right now. They win games and are competitive week in and week out, even without a true starting QB and lots of injuries. The Giants have injuries and it is our excuse for playing like crap.

The go for the throat attitude is not there with this team. We have talkers on the defense who rarely back it up. We have weird passive tendencies on offense that show up right when we have a chance to take the will of the opponent away. Instead we always manage to do something dumb to give life to a team on the ropes.

I think of it this way, when Ali beat Foreman he was being dominated by a bigger more aggressive foe so he went to a rope a dope style and allowed Foreman to tire himself out. For the Giants, there are moments when we are Foreman but instead we go to a rope a dope style while being the dominant, in charge team and allow the foe who was reeling to get new life and then we wilt like a flower in the desert. It is embarrassing.

In the past I would have seen the Giants with Eli get the ball and move down the field for a tying FG or winning TD drive and now I knew if the defense faltered as they usually do the Giants wouldn't have the magic to answer.

This team plays its best offense in a long time just to be in a game. BUt, they did their best to throw it away- ELi horrible pass to Parker and INT in red zone. Eli missing Beckham on deep streak that would have been a TD. Williams who could have an probably have lost that fumble near the goaline. This team is soft and just a mistake waiting to happen...

Still dying to know WTF happened between the first and second half
jcn56 : 11/24/2014 9:53 am : link
to our OL, that they went from doing some actual, decent pass pro and run blocking to being a complete abomination in the second half.

Do these guys just have one half of football in them? Did someone get hurt? Did Dallas adjust? What the fuck happened?!
Believe it or not we are not far from competing
bradshaw44 : 11/24/2014 9:55 am : link
with the big boys. We have been in every single game with the big boys. We are a couple pieces away. But the the question is, can Reese find those pieces?

What makes you think we're going to have a miraculous off season? Our drafts and our FA moves over the last several years are a total mess. For every Beckham there are five Philip Dillards.
If we were just 10% better
old man : 11/24/2014 10:01 am : link
we would have beaten Seattle, SF, and Dallas.
JM upcoming offseason comment: this organization is broken.
I posted this in another thread

I like the uptempo offense but you need olinemen that have good stamina. Enough to perform for 60 minutes.
Beatty has the stamina. Richburgh doesnt yet. Walton doesn't finish his blocks (clear signs of fatigue) Jerry 340lb heavy guy . Schwarts also 340lb hasn't played in forever, not in game shape yet. McAdoo called many screen passes, those plays require the olimen to run 20yards down the field.

The oline played better then expected. In the first half anyways.

Andy, problem is we've been saying this for three years..."all we have to do is get pass rush, a decent LB who can defend the TE, a decent OG, a FS who can cover..." etc., etc. This FO has been coming up way short, and that's why we have the bad team we have today. No confidence that R&R wil suddenly change their stripes.
