Hate to bring this up but...

moaltch : 11/24/2014 10:13 am
you can't just cut your best defensive player on a terrible defense, because he smoked weed a few times. Did the Niners cut Aldon Smith? The Browns cut Josh Gordon? Reece boxed himself in when he stated that one more strike and you're gone. I don't think he realized how good Will Hill was going to become. He should have let the league handle the discipline going forward.

You clearly do not grasp the situation accurately

It wasn't about the weed
BillT : 11/24/2014 10:15 am : link
It was about his unreliability. You can't count on players and then have them repeatedly suspended.
Is he having that great a season in Bmore?
bradshaw44 : 11/24/2014 10:15 am : link
I honestly haven't heard his name all season. Outside of the weed smoking that is.
In a decade of being here,

that's what you came up with?

Guys like this somehow always seem spell Reese's name wrong. Which is a kind of poetry.
Guys, guys, guys...football starts up front
MikeN in Ottawa : 11/24/2014 10:20 am : link
and up front is where we are weak on both sides of the ball.

Until that is fixed, doesn't matter a damn who's playing safety. You can't cover for eight seconds which was what Romo had on back to back plays on the game winning drive.

C'mon...let's get the priorities right here. Even with Beckham on offense, we won't go anywhere until the offensive line is fixed. You win in the trenches...it is that simple.

Reese forgot this principle which is why we are struggling now.

Indeed, perhaps the only thing missing is a "z" in his handle.
There's only so many chances you give a player
micky : 11/24/2014 10:21 am : link
and Giants went beyond to do so in every way for Hill to right himself, yet, he continuously let them down. They did the right thing regardless of talent etc etc. You just don't do what Hill did to the Giants and not expect some sort of consequences.
How many sacks does Will Hill have
armsteadeatslittlekids : 11/24/2014 10:21 am : link
On the season? Or are you saying he can cover for 8+ seconds?
Randy there is so much more
moaltch : 11/24/2014 10:21 am : link
but when I see Demps and Brown at safety I just shake my head. I think unreliability was certainly an issue but keeping your best defensive player potentially, on a horrible defense, would have been a risk we needed to take.
I was in favor of sending a message....
Doomster : 11/24/2014 10:33 am : link
But watching Brown and Demps out there, not having a clue, has changed my mind....we looked the other way for LT, so let's not get holier than thou....
He doesn't start for Baltimore

Once you get past the incorrect notion that Hill was cut
Mike from Ohio : 11/24/2014 10:37 am : link
simply because he smoked weed, it will make more sense.

He was cut because he lacked a critical ability - availability. He was suspended multiple times, given second and third opportunities, but made it clear his priority was weed first and team second.
hey man I'm with you. It's all about Will Hill

if we hadn't cut Will Hill, we would be the 85 Bears on defense...
Hehe
Mike in Long Beach : 11/24/2014 10:41 am : link
1) Most are right... it wasn't about the weed or some judgment on smoking. It was about lying and accountability.

2) It was still the wrong decision to cut him.

Been my stance since day 1 and it hasn't changed as we sit at 3-8. And btw, Hill has been very mediocre in Baltimore.
Imagine yourself as an employer.
That Said : 11/24/2014 10:41 am : link
You've got an employee who's very good at his job. Trouble is, he doesn't always show up for work. You have a deadline and he's off doing his thing. Are you keeping him around?

Didn't think so.
Is there anyone who truly believes
Mike from Ohio : 11/24/2014 10:47 am : link
Will Hill would have this defense anywhere other than dead last in the NFL? He is such a dominant piece he barely sees the field in Baltimore. He looked great here because everyone else was so downright awful.

You make exceptions for the Lawrence Taylors of the world, not the Will Hills.
Will Hill played every Def snap in week 9 and 10

we had known of the Goodell/NLFPA 180 on drug policy would hit 3 weeks later he might still be here.
But as mentioned, you can't kep a guy that has been suspended beginning of season 2 straight years, and this one possibly 6-10 games.
He's best off away , and not close to his NJ 'hood.

They have huge pot crops in N. California, it has been legalized in many areas for medical use, pot has been proven to reduce pain for many ailments including swelling, joint pain, etc.... He didn't torture and slaughter helpless animals, get drunk and kill a bicyclist, shoot a guest at his home and beat a murder rap, didn't beat a fan or wife or girlfriend, yada, yada, yada. Get Real!!!!!

he was too good to just cut
It was a foolish decision by the organization and they're paying for
Shockeyisthebest80 : 11/24/2014 5:23 pm : link
it by watching Demps play horrendous football every week.

However, it's really OVER and done with now. We need to move on.

that mediocre player has held one of the best TE in football in check for most of the night. Oh and he's got a pick six to boot
Love how the simple point being made on why he was cut
RC02XX : 11/24/2014 11:48 pm : link
Continues to sail right over people's heads. Yeah sure, it's because he smoked pot and not because it was indicative of something more...hung being an unreliable asshole.

Held him in check? He caught 2 touchdowns.

Will Hill has elevated the Ravens D so much Brees hung 420 yards on them. (LOL Ironic)
The weed was not directly why they cut him
Bramton1 : 11/25/2014 9:39 am : link
After the previous suspension, they gave him another chance. Obviously to push him to not have a relapse, they told him if he did it again, they were done. Hill probably told them, maybe promised to them, that this would not happen again.

When he got caught again, he forced the Giants' hand. If the Giants change their stance and give Hill yet another chance, the team's entire enforcement and consequences system becomes a joke, and everybody knows it. Other players possibly start pushing boundaries, and when they get in trouble, question why Hill got special treatment. That's when you talk about things like, "The coach lost the locker room."

The Giants did not want to cut Hill. But they had no choice at that point. You cut him and hope the backups will be up to the task. Otherwise you keep him and pray is doesn't make the whole thing fall apart.
He's going to be a restricted free agent after the season.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/25/2014 9:40 am : link
He'll be unrestricted a year later. Maybe, MAYBE if he stays clean until he hits the market, the Giants can revisit him.

If you don't like that idea, then it wouldn't have made much sense to keep him around this year.
