While the interception was a bad throw, that was not the turning point. The bottom line is Eli marched the Giants 92 yards for a go-head TD with 3 minutes to play. When Eli walked off the field his team had the lead. This loss was 100% on our defense. Period.
And it wasn't a turning point, as the Giants took back the lead only for the defense to blow it (just like they still likely would have if they had scored there, given their pathetic track record and what did happen)
I don't think it was a turning point as the game was still clearly winnable, but the complexion of the game changed a lot when we lost 3 sure points and possibly 7.
Had that pass been a little lower or the route not as "flat" we win
that game IMO. A little bit of luck on that play and the chatter here would be completely different. Blame? OLine, Parker, and yes Eli. It's football. That sh&t happens.
That's not arguable. And seeing it again it was mostly on the WR. Parker needed to go straight up the middle which is just where Eli threw the ball. If he does the ball hits him in stride and he splits the safeties for a TD. Game over.
because if we score there--and it was low hanging fruit for the picking, so wide open was Parker--then we're not talking about the defense giving up the game winning drive with Giants at 28 points, all things being equal. That play took a minimum three (gives us 31 - 31) and arguably seven points off the board.
This is why drives into and points from the red zone are so critical: the more points you score, the more the other team has to score to beat you. doh
I'm still scratching my head at those who, last night, wanted to hang their hats on a busted route by Parker, arguing he ran it "too thin" (Eli??), not deep enough. Yeah, Parker, please run your route deeper, into the coverage, that's what we coach receivers to do.
Eli had as clean and calm a pocket as he had all night, a clear view from five yards behind his OL; it was not a timing pattern calling for a timed release; he had time to adjust to whatever Parker ran (IF, in fact, he had not run the precise route called on the play--we'll likely not know for sure); there was no Dallas player within five yards, maybe more) as Parker crossed in front of him. Eli just threw a terrible, uncatcheable ball at a key juncture of the game. Dallas goes right down the field to score. Does no one think that couldn't have deflated the team?
The defense gave Romo time to build a fucking McMansion complex multiple times on a beyond easy scoring drive to lose the game with three minutes left immediately following a great 93 yard lead-taking drive by the offense.
But I'm supposed to buy them being deflated by the INT as the reason Dallas scored following it?
They gave up a TD there because they suck, just like they gave up the game losing TD because they suck. The pick sucked, but something can't be a turning point when the game is actually in hand again after it.
#1. Coming out at the start of the 2nd half and playing not to lose with the "establish the run" play calling.
#2. Manning over-throwing the wide open Preston Parker.
#3. Playing "vanilla" and not pressuring Romo on the final drive.

as Rolle dropping his INT in the first quarter. Points are points, right?
dep - I thought that was going to be costly when it happened. In real time, it just looked like a tough break. Then you see the replay and he just flat out had it go through his hands. That is a play he almost always makes and you expect him to make.
Momentum really showed how meaningful it was when Dallas
marched down for a score after Beckham's catch and after a 93 yard lead taking drive with three minutes left, didn't it?
I'm not saying it wasn't a brutal INT (though I will say anyone who thinks Dallas wouldn't have scored after the Giants did in that situation and the game would have been locked into a win is absolutely delusional about what this team is), but unless every single impact play in a game is a turning point, you can't point to it as one. They got the lead back after it. The game was in hand again after it. The almighty momentum was back on their side after it. They just blew it again.
It's simple: This year, when the Giants have chances, they tend to blow them. By the same token, when there are mistakes, they don't ever seem to recover.
Eli's INT was as much of a turning point

Turning point in the first quarter? 7-0 vs 7-3, compared to leading 28-17 or trailing 24-21, at the end of the third quarter? Not even close....
What happened on the Giant series just before Rolle missed the int?....Eli made a bad decision, stared down a receiver, threw it across his body, and it should have been intercepted in the endzone....this is why I thought the Giants had a chance....that no interception, and no reversal on the fumble by Williams...the Giants were finally getting some breaks.....
If Eli hits a Wide open Parker, he may or may not have scored...if he does, it's 28-17, and we are kicking off and maybe Dallas gets the ball on the 20......momentum.....mayb e the defense thinks, hey we got a shot in this game with Eli(compared to last week).....instead, they have the ball at midfield, and the defense must be thinking, here we go again with Eli..... and 4 plays and 2 minutes later it is 24-21, a 14 point swing.....No doubt in my mind, it's the turning point of the game......it gave Dallas a lead, it wouldn't have had, if it was receiving a kickoff, instead of a short field at midfield.....
One more thing......what about the play calling on the last series? Only have one minute in the game....a 2 yard pass to Jennings, if he caught it....two short passes to Donnell.....a short pass to Jennings......4 short passes, that didn't get us 10 yards, and we needed to go at least 50 to attempt a fg? In that situation, you max protect and send just 2-3 guys out, and after a chip block, then a TE or back.....but under 10 yard passes are not going to cut it...
It was fucking horrible. I know Eli makes a lot of great throws, but come on. Almost every QB in the league hits that on. Our $20 million man certainly should have.
And I agree with the original post. He makes that throw and I think we win the game. Crushing mis-throw.
The offense gave the defense a 4 point lead at home on a long drive to be rested with 3 minutes to go. The turning point was this defense on the field at the end
...that an Eli Manning interception deflates the entire team to the point of the opposition rolling right over us afterwards. Its heaven or hell with him. Problem is, its way more of the latter. He is very careless and yes I get that its the only way he knows.
Eli is good for about 2-3 games every season where his carelessness is directly responsible for total game/momentum killing results.
The problem is that this team cannot usually survive these laps, whereas a better team would.
game turned on the 3rd quarter INT, even though, they RETOOK the lead with 3:00 to go. And what momentum did the Giants have, they went 3 and out on the first few possessions of the 3rd quarter anyways.
This game changing shit needs to be rethought. Its a stupid cliche used for people who never played the game.
Eli's horrible throw on a ball that should have been a td. Cowboys marched down a short field and scored 7.
14 point swing. Awful play by our qb.
Rolle not catching a fairly easy ball for an int. in the end zone.
3 points Poor db play
Eli not able to find a streaking and wide open Beckum down the left sideline because pocket collapsed. Eli couldn't step into the throw so he checked down to Jennings? for a short gain.
O-line breakdown
This deflation/momentum thing is honestly an IQ test.
The Giants CAME BACK AND TOOK THE LEAD AFTER THE INT. How the hell could the momentum be forever lost, the point decisively turned, when that happens?
Meanwhile, IN THE SAME GAME, we saw the defense just bend over and take it from Dallas IMMEDIATELY after an all-time TD catch AND after a lead taking 93 yard, time consuming drive with 3 minutes left. Did success deflate the team/defense then somehow?
I think he just got excited because he saw the receiver break so open...What you gonna do?
Ugh.

Seems like a turning point to me.
The success of a play is not dependent upon the success or lack thereof of a previous play.

The defense was horrible but it's not debatable that the odds of us winning the game would have increased with a TD there.
#2. Manning over-throwing the wide open Preston Parker.

ELI cost us too man.
I bad throw or series and this team is cooked like TG Turkey! Ridiculous!!! Romo was 6-6 on the drive after Eli handed the Defense a lead...
but go ahead and call a third 1/4 INT the turning point!
Eli to Paker TD
Giants 28
Cowboys 17
Or
Eli throws a int
And 4 plays later the cowboys take the lead.
Giants 21
Cowbiws 24

Fewell played this to lose with the Tampa 2 crap...
This is one of Eli's bad hobbits...kind of like the Desolation of Smaug....

I think OBJ got screwed by celebrating the penalty (rookie mistake).
