which is what prompts ideas like benching Eli, playing Richberg at center, etc.
I am late coming to the party of the season is over gang, going into last night I was still looking for a win over Dallas that might get the Giants to 8-7 going into the seasons finale.
But, I must admit, I will have trouble getting excited about wins over the like of Jacksonville, Tennessee, etc.
However, I do not share in the idea that since the play offs are out of the question, the team is better served by losing. There could be something positive in a few wins going forward built on the continued development of guys like ODB, Pugh & Richberg if they come back, even Schwartz.
Also I think drafting position is overrated unless there is a very special player out there. I can only remember rooting two times for the Giants to lose. One was when L.T. was coming out, the other was when we heard of the Giants interest in Eli.
Would you go back and pick any of the players chosen before OBJ in last year's draft. If yes, I can make a legitimate argument that you might be wrong.
Also how many times have better players gone in the draft after the Giants pick.
Draft position is overrated, evaluating players is not.
I also don't think wins over Jacksonville etc, would save Coughlin's job, if that is a concern for some of you. If he comes back, it won't be because of that.
Going forward, I will watch the remainder of the games, because that is what I do, but with considerably less emotional involvement.
But thee will be no concerned that wins are making the rebuilding job ahead more difficult.
Draft position might be overrated, but after dismissing what it all means about how the previous season would have gone, I'd still rather be closer to the front than the back of the draft . More options is generally a good thing. And you can't only look at the advantage it gives you in the first round, since it affects the other rounds, too.
You might not want anyone picked before Beckham, but if the Giants were in the Browns position, they could have conceivably still picked Beckham at 1.9 and Richburg (if they didn't like someone like Bitonio better) early 2nd round and had an extra 1st rounder next year. Of course, they probably would have just taken Watkins and I don't think we'd be complaining about that too much, either.
