NFT: Hall of Fame ballot

superspynyg : 11/24/2014 10:59 am
New hopefuls are Randy Johnson (303 wins) Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz (over 200 wins and 150 saves). Craig Biggio had 74% last year.

I think that Johnson and Biggio are this years locks.
Pedro

is a guaranteed lock and shame on people if they dont vote for him.
All four should be locks
Dunedin81 : 11/24/2014 11:09 am : link
...
Jeff Bagwell
PaulBlakeTSU : 11/24/2014 11:09 am : link
should be an absolute lock, but people see muscles so despite a lack of any other evidence, he won't get the votes.
All 4 should be in

I don't even think there should be a question.
I also

think Mussina was better than Glavine who just got in with overwhelming support, so it's frustrating to see that he will fall short again.
Pedro Martinez
Dave in PA : 11/24/2014 11:10 am : link
is the best player on that list. His dominance from the late 90's through early 00's was legendary. Randy Johnson and Smoltz are top notch horses as well and certainly deserve a place in the HOF, maybe not this year for Smoltz though. I never thought of Biggio as a HOF player
Biggio is the only borderline guy...
Dunedin81 : 11/24/2014 11:10 am : link
in some ways he was an accumulator. I think he gets in, though he's not as blatantly obvious as the other three.
the HOF
PaulBlakeTSU : 11/24/2014 11:13 am : link
has to do away with a limit of 10 people per ballot because it is creating an insurmountable and unnecessary logjam
You all

are correct. The 3 pitchers listed, and Bagwell, and Mussina should be in, and, Biggio was an accumulator, but he was so consistent at it for so long he should be in.
Randy Johnson is possibly the best Lefty ever

Certainly the best I've ever seen. Top guy on that list for me. Peak Pedro is the most dominant pitcher ever imo, amazing what he did in his environment. Smoltz also deserves it, his post season resume and his Start/Relief dual impact get him in with ease.

Bagwell should get in before Biggio, both should go in. Piazza should go in.

Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens should go in.
I forgot to add:
old man : 11/24/2014 11:18 am : link
they may not want so many pitchers, so MM is odd man out.
the only way Bonds and Clemons are getting in

is by buying tickets.I'll admit that they had great "early careers" but the voters shouldn't have to try to figure out which stats came about before they started cheating. These guys made multi millions of $$$ and they're not in jail(nor SHOULD they be. Being kept out of the HOF is not that much of a penalty for them.

I don't get the "maybe not this year" mentality. the same goes for "first ballot" or "unanimous" or based on other eligible players, etc. As a voter or a fan, either a guy belongs in the HOF or he doesn't. Period. I don't care first ballot, % of votes, etc. If he is, in your estimation, a HOF player, then you vote for him.
