Beckham's chances for ROY

Bold Ruler : Mod : 11/24/2014 12:25 pm
Yeah missed first five games of the season. Since then...lighting it up. Other players are raving, other coaches are raving and media was already crowing about him before the catch of the decade last night.

What do we think about Beckham's chances for ROY?
He's have to keep doing it

but Mike Evans is likely the front runner. Beckham has been more impressive but Evans has been putting up some big games.
Still the darkhorse

though the catch will be aired 100 times over between now and the end of the season which will help.

Evans (49 catches, 841 yds, 8 TDs) and Hill (643 yds, 6 TDs rushing + 17 catches, 168 yds) have to be the front runners though. Benjamin (52 catches, 768 yds, 8 TDs) is probably 3rd.

I'd put Beckham (41 catches, 609 yds, 5 TDs) in the group behind those 3, but he's coming fast. Beckham does have a much better catch % (receptions/target) than the 2 guys above (69% vs 60% and 53%, respectively)
We have a bunch of games to go still

a lot could happen!
Evans is out front

but OBJ will need to continue his stellar play thru the end of the season. On the flipside Evans would need to fade into the background for him to get it.

Right now here's how they stack up:
Beckham 41 catches for 609 yds 14.9 per and 5 TDs (7 gms)
Evans 49 catches for 849 yds 17.2 per and 8 TDs (10 gms)

He definitely has a shot to put up some good numbers to contend. The question is who are the other candidates out there?
Amazing class of 1st round rookie WRs

Watkins is on pace for 70 recs and 8 TDs and isnt even in the conversation.
He's quickly gaining on the pack that's for sure

At least before yesterday, Watkins would've been slightly ahead of Beckham IMO. We'll see what Watkins does tonight.
Wouldn't surprise me

Beckham actually leads all rookie receivers in yds per game. If that carries on he will at least get a great amount of consideration. It'll also be telling what Evans does now that teams will start to shift their focus to him rather than Jackson. Yesterday was a testament to that. Only 3 catches for 47 yards against a Bears D that ranks 29th vs the pass and 31st in ppg.
It's Beckham vs Evans

Evans has the lead now but how they finish will decide it.
Not a prayer!

MVP potential player in the league in one of the coming seasons. His numbers stretched out over a 16 game season put him right at the top with the best WRs in the game and he's a rookie and only 22 years old. And on top of all that he does as WR, if he continue to return kicks and or punts it's a given he'll break a few of those too at some point.

As far as ROY goes this year? I don't see why not. He missed some games but very easily could wind up with better stats than all the other rookies who played in more games. Not sure how you keep him from the award if that happens.
He'd have a better chance..

...if the Giant's offense wasn't a 3 stooges film festival.
I'd take OBJ ahead of all those guys
oipolloi : 11/24/2014 5:47 pm : link
and that's no knock on Watkins, Evans or Benjamin. They all have pro-bowl potential down the line.

But Odell looks like he might be a special one. Probably not big enough to be the best receiver in the game. But he could easily be a top 5 WR
What about #44?
oipolloi : 11/24/2014 5:48 pm : link
way more touches than OBJ has targets
Right now I'm only taking odds on him

staying in one piece for the rest of the season
