Yeah missed first five games of the season. Since then...lighting it up. Other players are raving, other coaches are raving and media was already crowing about him before the catch of the decade last night.
What do we think about Beckham's chances for ROY?
Evans (49 catches, 841 yds, 8 TDs) and Hill (643 yds, 6 TDs rushing + 17 catches, 168 yds) have to be the front runners though. Benjamin (52 catches, 768 yds, 8 TDs) is probably 3rd.
I'd put Beckham (41 catches, 609 yds, 5 TDs) in the group behind those 3, but he's coming fast. Beckham does have a much better catch % (receptions/target) than the 2 guys above (69% vs 60% and 53%, respectively)
Right now here's how they stack up:
Beckham 41 catches for 609 yds 14.9 per and 5 TDs (7 gms)
Evans 49 catches for 849 yds 17.2 per and 8 TDs (10 gms)
He definitely has a shot to put up some good numbers to contend. The question is who are the other candidates out there?
At least before yesterday, Watkins would've been slightly ahead of Beckham IMO. We'll see what Watkins does tonight.
As far as ROY goes this year? I don't see why not. He missed some games but very easily could wind up with better stats than all the other rookies who played in more games. Not sure how you keep him from the award if that happens.
But Odell looks like he might be a special one. Probably not big enough to be the best receiver in the game. But he could easily be a top 5 WR
