Run Run Pass

kepler20 : 11/24/2014 2:57 pm
has doomed this team

Coughlin, when up 21-10 and then 21-17 forced us to play so conservatively on offense that he left points on the board in the third quarter and torpedoed this team.

He has no understanding of momentum, and by the time we had to turn the offense back on, he team was playing on its heels.

Run Run Pass conservatism has aided thr opposing team's defense on a consistent basis that it leads to us leaving points on the board.

Unleash McAdoo or just retire.
Isn't it better than the offensive possessions your

Jets go through?
Didn't the Cowboys do the same thing though, basically?
Curtis in VA : 11/24/2014 2:59 pm : link
Maybe not in the exact run run pass order but the Giants knew they were going to run the ball and still couldn't stop them.

Play selection probably isn't the problem overall. Lack of talent is more likely.

Murray was consistently putting his team in 2nd and 5 situations

While we faced 2nd and 10 on a regular basis

I am not a jets fan.
It's no so bad if

need to go back and look at the play-calling in the first half. They ran the ball more than they passed.
Another issue
kepler20 : 11/24/2014 3:09 pm : link
coughlin refuses to have any inventiveness on offense

the Cowboys lined up in the exact same running formations and ran several different running plays. The zone counter play killed us many times.

Whereas we line up in the same tired formations and run the same guard pulls every single time.

You mean the one where we faked it the one time and ran a screen?

Yeah, you're a Jets fan...

they had the cowboys guessing because of the shotguns/no huddle. it was very effective....and then it just stopped.

Yeah we decoyed beckham for an incompletion on third down and then for no gain in the second half
The only thing that's changed recently is
kepler20 : 11/24/2014 3:15 pm : link
atleast coughlin has given up on showing the inside draw on 4th and 10
i need to rewatch
nyynyg : 11/24/2014 3:22 pm : link
but on first view there looked to be a VERY noticeable change in the amount of time we were snapping the ball on the play clock. it seems we were highly efficient in the first half and there was A LOT more check outs by Eli in the second half and a lot more plays not going off until inside 4 seconds on the play clock.
We never seem to have an answer for when defenses adjust
mattlawson : 11/24/2014 3:30 pm : link
and we rarely adjust to other teams successes. this team is not going anywhere if that continues to happen... and why should an end be in sight?

Can't complain when its working only when it doesn't. There was a successful stretch in the 1st half when they ran 5 and passed 1.
We get ahead
jLefty : 11/24/2014 3:51 pm : link
everything seems to be going our way. And then they're afraid to let Eli psss on first down for fear of an intecdeption. We go two runs, and an incomplete

Yeah and that's the problem. Cowboys have the most dominant run blocking OL in football. Giants have one of the worst. The Giants should not be using the same approach as the Cowboys.

Especially the way Eli and OBJ destroyed the Cowboys in the first half
We suck at running the ball. Full stop.
Jacobs27 : 11/24/2014 3:56 pm : link
Eli was on fire in the first half....Dallas had now answer for our passing game.

So what do we do in the 2nd half? Run Run Pass Punt. Run Run Pass Punt. We pissed away 2 possessions, momentum and likely the game.

Did we run a lot in the first half too? Yes, with terrible results for the most part. It was our passing game that carried us in the first half and then we abandon it to open up the 2nd half.

If we ran like Dallas I'd be fine running all day long. But we suck at running the football yet call plays like we are the Cowboys offense.
Arguably
Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2014 4:00 pm : link
one of the very best (most consistent drives) of the game was the third TD drive where the Giants ran the ball 8 times for 45 yards, including runs of 12 and 18. There were only three pass plays on this drive.
Eric...
Jacobs27 : 11/24/2014 4:04 pm : link
Yes, it was. It was also the only drive where we've run the ball well in probably the last 6 games.

We also won Time of Possesison 35 - 25. Which is meaningless. The goal is to score points on offense....not hold the ball a long time or establish balance.

We started off great on offense and then went into a shell to start the 2nd half. That is horrific coaching that probably cost us the game.

Yes and Eli bailed them out of a number of third and longs with some great throws.

That's only going to work for so long.

You have to pass the ball on first down in the NFL today. And by pass the ball on first down, I don't mean when you are already way behind, which is when the Giants do it. You have to establish that you can and will throw the ball on first down. Giants don't have an OL where they can just come out and run like the Cowboys.

The game plan and play calling has to help the OL out by keeping the defense off balance. Coughlin does the exact opposite by predictably running the ball. Cowboys were run blitzing on almost every first down. Yet, Giants just kept running, despite getting little or no yardage.

You have to establish the pass immediately in today's game. Can't wait until you fall behind and the D knows you have to pass--which has been Coughlin's approach.
Also Eric...
Jacobs27 : 11/24/2014 4:06 pm : link
If you do that math those 2 runs accounted for 30 yards. The other 6 carries = 2.5 yards per carry.

So basically your argument is because we had 2 good runs in the first half it was a good game plan to abandon the pass to start the second half.
Oi brings up a great point....
Jacobs27 : 11/24/2014 4:08 pm : link
Not only do we run too much but we are entirely predictable. I"m sure most of us can call almost every play before it happens now.

You think opposing coordinators can't do the same?
Didn't that song come out in the 1970's?

Well the offense had a chance
giantgiantfan : 11/24/2014 4:17 pm : link
to put the game further out of reach of Dallas and Eli threw a backbreaking interception.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/24/2014 4:20 pm : link
No, I'm merely pointing out that those arguing that the game plan had some how changed from the 1st to 2nd half are incorrect.

Also, there was ONE drive where they were productive and it was later in the second half. That would suggest that the Giants were starting to wear down the Cowboys some. Unfortunately that was not the case.

2 three and outs is what let Dallas back in the game in the third
oipolloi : 11/24/2014 4:23 pm : link
Giants are the worst team in the NFL starting the halves. So, basically, when they are following the plan most closely, that's when they are at their worst.

That tells you something about the plan.
I think what we were all looking for was the
Rjanyg : 11/24/2014 4:31 pm : link
" step on their throats " mentality. Play action and go up top. The Giants are winning anything this year and they weren't winning anything prior to last nights game. I would have been nice to see them "play to win" as opposed to "not to lose".
