You all seem like a great bunch...and I do admit to being on here and reading alot to get a sense of what fans are feeling week to week...the highs the lows. I would love to have a realistic discussion on three points below..

Coughlin/Reese/DC/OC
So much has been discussed on this topic. You have a two two time superbowl winners and then you have a one time winner in fewell. Would everyone agree here that it is CLEAR that 2008 defensive team whom we saw elevate their game in really the last 6 games of the year including the playoffs was really because of the talent level as opposed to scheme? A devestating d-line with osi as a 6th man. With this there is no doubt he is gone at the end of this year. I have always cringed at the conservative play calling time and time again. Especially with a suspect secondary.
Argue Coughlin and Reese, but the fact of the matter is they are WINNERS. Period. Show me another coach in the NFL who has handled this much adversity this much scrutiny and finds a way to rebound. Tom has been given a new offensive coordinator and a lame duck d coordinator. Mcadoo needs another year. You can see what this offense can become. Eli is definitely playing at a higher level with it in place. Coughlin/Mcadoo return for one more year.

Eli Manning - This is short. You keep this player, this rock, legendary NY class act of a qb until he cannot physically throw another pass. He retires a Giant. Those who want him traded or gone to go fishing for Mariotta and Winston. See: Dave Brown, Danny Kannel, Kent Graham. I will still say it..nobody is better in this decade in a big game. Stats back this up. Post season stats back this up.

Teams Talent level - Injuries exposed our depth at every position. Period. WR/OL/DB/RB...what can you say? You tell me Amukamara, Thurmound, Beason, banged up DRC, Cruz, OBJ[not knowing what he'd become], Shwartz, Jennings for 6 weeks would all be hurt prior to kickoff week one, what would you expect? A First round Bye? Jennings added a dynamic to yesterdays game that was instantly noticed in the passing game. Instantly. This team has talent. This team needs health. This team needs OL and LB's. Our last MLB who could play this game wore 54. That's a long time. After yesterdays effort, I expect a 7-9 8-8 finish and I really do feel confident going into next year.

It will be a great holiday season, stress free football, watching green bay stomp out the eagles then remind the world why romo has one playoff win.

Remember this Big Blue followers....We play the AFC east next year. Cheers!!

and good first post!
Right on point

my view is the same as yours. Regarding Eli, we all forget about this days when Dave Brown was our QB. Who do you replace coughlin with? Do we not remember Ray Hundley (or however you spell his name). We root for a classy organization and there is a reason, ex-players/coaches appreciate what our team stands for. We can be the redskins or even cowboys for that fact. Yes, the season is a disappointment which is more of a reason to appreciate 2007 and 2011!!! And oh yea, Enjoy #13 play on sundays....he is the real deal (if he stays healthy)

it sounds like you work for Hanlon.

Regarding Coughlin and Reese being winners. Not arguing with you. However, I want to point out that the margin between calling them winners vs losers is extremely thin.... just TWO games. Of course, they are the two most important games. Just think though... if they lost that last Superbowl or even both of them (two games), then what would people say?

I am not taking those great victories away from them because they are earned. If you look at the entire body of work though, this team is basically 9-8 on average during the regular season with quite a few seasons of not making the playoffs.

This is a "what have you done for me lately" league and since the last Superbowl, the team has been going downhill fast.

Antonio Pierce wore #54?

(Because you can't be referring to Goff.. can you?)
I've read a lot of stupid drivel here over the years

hah....was thinking the same thing. I can't think of anyone else who wore 54 at LB except Carlton Bailey
My biggest problem is that the best work Reese
LauderdaleMatty : 11/24/2014 4:49 pm : link
Has done was in his last position not his current one.

Prior to the rise in the cap the Giants were in cap purgatory. So between bad deals he gave out whether they be FAs or re signings he wasn't doing a good job there. His drafts after his first one have been underwhelming.

I have a feeling him and TC are not on the same page at times. I know for a fact TC never wanted Matt Dodge to be drafted directly from an NFL coach who worked for TC years ago and is still coaching in the NFL. That may be one instance but then you hear Reese saying he would like to see so e other guys out on the field like Moore and I wonder.

Just because a coach or a GM was successful in the past doesn't mean you throw out current results. Reese has had pressings little to show for his drafts. People want to blame Ross but who works for whom?

Do they get another year? How many more years does Reese need for the OL which he has heavily invested in in both FA and the draft?

Not unreasonable to wonder about their futures what the last two years the team has been in the bottom.
Meant 58...

To comment...this wasnt TWO games..That is insane to believe. This was 8 of the best games I have EVER witnessed as a Giants Fan. Keep in mind I was a newborn for the 86 season and just 4 in '90.

It drives me insane how we can yearn for Rex Ryans, Grudens, and billicks of the world (obv never will happen) and forget Rex hasn't won a damn thing sandwiched between losing seasons. And to mention none of these coaches have one anywhere else. Tom Coughlin is a proven winner with multiple franchises at multiple levels. If this team backed in and lost the wildcard does that make the season a success? I give reese one more crack at this.. As far as im concerned, you clean house..this Eli driven era is over. It takes one player to change a dynamic of an offense or defense. I trust Reese will get that done this offseason.

Go away. You're not welcome here.

You make reasonable sense.

Fie on you.
sarcasm appreciated

.hahaa
It's like Coughlin won TWO games and no other games
Headhunter : 11/24/2014 4:55 pm : link
to get to those TWO games. Bud Grant & Marv Levy HoF's both would give a kidney or lung to win one of those TWO games that keeps Coughling from being a loser
Mind you two games
NewYorksFinest : 11/24/2014 4:59 pm : link
Mind you two games against possibly the best nfl coach qb combo this league has seen..
I don't understand
cokeduplt : 11/24/2014 5:25 pm : link
The thinking that u can't find a better coach than Coughlin because he won Super Bowls in the past. The team hasn't been good since they won the Super Bowl and have just been getting worse. A new head coach wouldn't have to big of a hill to climb to beat 3-8 or 0-6.
Agree with Much of the Nice Post

Very optimistic and even-tempered. A change for some of us. I'd rather you were right about it all rather than I, who see all this as an unmitigated disaster.

Eli. Of course, you're right about him. He's been a great player and still does his thing well, even if one can't expect his physical skills to be what they were in the winning years. (Whose physical skills in things athletic get better with age? Smarts maybe, but not physical skills.) He is the face and personification of the Giants now. Not TC, whose permanent glower is probably widely identified with the team, even by those for whom the NFL is just a TV thing taking up space on Sundays; not Reese, whose face would not be recognized on a magazine page, except by football nuts and a fair number of Giants fans; and not anyone else (though Beckham seems destined to become another face a lot of people know).

But, as to "WINNERS," even for every Babe Ruth, every Joe Lewis, every Satchel Page -- and how many of those did we ever have? -- even for them, age catches up. And however terrific TC and Reese (hard for me to speak of both in the same breath, actually) have been, they are not in that league. They are and will be forgettable. So, if there's moving on to do, and I still think Mara must decide to do that at the end of this year (if he hasn't already), they can go.

They do not and cannot give as much to next year's Giants or the Giants of the future and the game itself as Eli has and almost no doubt will for at least a year or three more. They are not so important and have not been so successful for the team, especially Reese, who, frankly, cannot be judged harshly enough for the mess he's made in the draft and FA (Jennings and Schwartz, and the great Beckham pick notwithstanding).

Blame it all on injuries, if you must, and hope for better things if the injured return in anything like the shape they were in when injured (I think of Cruz here) when you tell us there's real talent on this team. Reality as to injuries, however, is that this rarely happens. Sometimes, but it's unusual -- not to be counted on. And anyway it takes a good deal of talent to regularly win. More than is apparent on the Giants, including those on the IR.

That's why I cannot share your optimism.
i wonder what Werner Erhart has to say about this

Fine thread, and true!

Are you, or were you, a member of "New York's Finest"?

Many friends were NYPD. All dead now.

Do you remember the dark days before Bill Parcells? Why is Bill Parcells still remembered by many Giants fans as our greatest coach? Because he came after two disastrous decades.

Then more years of mediocre to bad football and we got TC and Eli. Two more Super Bowl wins! Another "Greatest Giants' Coach".

Everything is relative.

For our young fans, the best is yet to come.

You obviously did not get the point and just read the post half assed without truly understanding it before firing back.

Let me re-phrase it for you in more simple terms. Those two games may be the difference for some people as to whether they view Coughlin's tenure here to be a success. Those two games included, he is loved for bringing 2 superbowl victories. Those two games removed, and the body of work is extremely average...or below.

Do I ever! And they were pretty dark. Never will forget (or forgive) Pittsburg destroying Y.A., for example. Bill Parcells was a welcome relief.

And, yes, no doubt for our young fans the best is yet to come. There may be more than a little suffering involved, of course, as it was for us.

The powers that be willing, maybe I'll see even more than the beginning of that turn-around (blanket in lap, hovering over an illicit beer or two, wondering if my hearing aid batteries need to be changed again). GO GIANTS!
