he missed six games to a suspension, he did nothing
Les in TO : 11/25/2014 8:44 am : link
the next several weeks and he's now had one good week. while losing hill on D is short term pain, i don't think any of you will complain when he screws up again and is suspended for an entire season. he was given multiple chances by the giants

That's hilarious considering the guy is never available to play because he's constantly suspended.
The reason this keeps coming up
WillieYoung : 11/25/2014 9:13 am : link
is because we have so many morons on this Board who can't recognize a good football player when they see one and who spout idiotic sayings their High School coach used to say to them about being able to rely on your teammates.

With Beason and Hill last year our defense was not an embarrassment. it is now. We couldn't control Beason's injury. The Hill wound is self inflicted. We draft a safety in the first round, we can "hope" he's as good as Hill, we're out a first round pick and haven't improved the team from where it was last year.
There are only 2 parties to blame here

Will Hill himself and NFL.. Will Hill has a problem and can't stay away from marijuana especially with the company he has living in Jersey...That alone isn't a big deal..but the NFL is hell bent on punishing players.. Weed doens't enhance anyone's performance, why should it bother the NFL when its employees smoke pot?.. These ridiculous suspension have a negative impact on the product on the field.. Suspending guys like Will Hill and Josh Gordon for weed is stupid.. Giants were stuck between these 2 dumbasses..
Nice of the

Giants to take a stand and feel good about themselves but what did it really accomplish? It obviously didn't set a winning culture because we are still getting our ass kicked each week. Did it makes us a better team? Well, I don't think it did, we could really use another playmaker at safety and we'll likely have to use significant cap room or a high draft pick on the position.

It's going to be bittersweet to watch Hill be a big part of another Baltimore playoff run.
Look
Johnny5 : 11/25/2014 11:09 am : link
I agree that he put the Giants in a position where they really pretty much had no choice.

But I really, REALLY liked him on our defense. And it really, Really, REALLY sucks that he is not part of our defensive backfield. The guy was easily the top 2 or 3 player on our defense last year. And now we have an immense hole at the safety position.

It really is OK for people to be upset that he is gone. And have to say, I wish the Giants would have done the wrong thing here... for once. JMO. YMMV.

Except these are things the head coach says.

Context.

Also, 8 to 10 games from Will Hill provides WAY more value than 16 games out of the Hoseleys and Brewers on this roster.
And what happens when 8 to 10 games

The same thing as when we have Demps playing for 16 games
Without the baggage.

Let's not make the guy out to be an all pro player. We're gonna have a special set of rules and tolerances for good starters now?

He's a good player and an idiot, and he's a part time NFL player.
I don't see lack of baggage
Blue Baller : 11/25/2014 11:30 am : link
helping him make plays on the football field

I just don't understand the thinking that he may not be available so lets make sure he is not available.

I get some other arguments here, but not that one

What special set of rules? He got suspended for what he did.

He got suspended by the league for getting caught for the third time despite the organization putting forth a patient effort to help him rehab. The team can discipline players too.
Can't Give Preferential Treatment?
Samiam : 11/25/2014 12:02 pm : link
Are you serious? Were you around when Parcells was the coach? Of course, teams give preferential treatment to big time players. Every team does and the ones who say they don't, are lying or suck. If a star falls asleep in a meeting, he was tired. If a backup falls asleep, he's cut. It's always been the case. The most logical explanation for Hill being cut is that they believed that the next failed test would mean a lifetime suspension and they didn't want to put a starter in that kind of iffy category. Trashing his apartment, which I've heard many times here, means nothing to the team; it only means something to the landlord. If the coaches or teammates didn't like him, that would mean something. If he didn't practice hard or missed film study or anything like that, it would mean something. Smoking weed is now legal in 4 states and probably will be legal in many more soon; it is no big deal. I think the Giants made a huge mistake in cutting him unless there were football related reasons or Stevie Brown is still recovering from injury because their safety play really does suck.

He goes onto the suspended list, somebody takes his roster spot and you tell him he has to earn it back?
I wanted to keep him, but understood letting him go as well.
Geeman : 11/25/2014 4:37 pm : link
So let's say he was Josh Gordon, who BTW got a 10 game suspension. Fans still would've been ok with just cutting him?
The Ravens are a well run NFL team
Joe in Cambridge : 11/25/2014 6:05 pm : link
with a respected GM and head coach. They didn't seem to have an issue with bringing in Hill and allowing him to help them win some football games. And that call seems to paying off for them.

Letting Hill go was a poor personnel decision. But it's just one out of a number of bad decisions the Giants have made in player evaluations over the last few years.
When Parcells was hired as the head coach of the Giants..
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 11/25/2014 11:12 pm : link
the first thing on his agenda was to remove ALL of the bad apples. This would be anyone who was doing drugs, anyone who was not on board, and anyone who was a cancer in the locker room (ie a locker room lawyer).

There was not a lot of attention drawn to this at that time, but over the course of a year or two, Bill weeded out ALL of them.

Remember Mark Haynes? He was an ALL PRO Cornerback. Possibly the best corner we had in YEARS. Shut down corner who played the run extremely well. He was not on board and was speaking out against the coach within the ranks. We traded him.

Eventually, LT was the only one he made an exception for.

How did that work out for us? Seemed like a great group that played well together.
