Our next 4 opponents, Jags, Titans, Rams, & Redskins, all lost last weekend, bringing their combined record to 10 wins & 34 losses. Interestingly enough that gives them an average of 2.5 wins & 8.5 losses, close to the Giants' 3 & 8 record. If we are improving, as our scores seem to indicate, we actually do have a chance to run the table in the next 4 weeks (Don't ask about our last game against the now 8-3 Eagles though).
I thought there was a definite improvement in our play against the Cowboys. We came close to winning against a good team, just as we did against the 49ers. Despite our latest 4th quarter collapse, the Giants running & pass blocking were better. Special team play was definitely improved too. It looks to me as if Giants' 4th quarter problems are due to the players' exhaustion, caused by their not having competent substitutes. This situation seems to me to be due to both the unfortunate rash of injuries, many of them to skill players, and Reese's failure to adequately resupply the offensive line.
Either the Giant first stringers became worn down by the 4th quarter or Fewell had the wrong defensive allignment & /or the wrong people on the field. I was shocked to see that neither of our 2 best pass rushers, Moore & Ayers were in the game during Dallas's winning drive. (no one said they were hurt). Also, we had only 4 rushers, PF called no blitzes, & was using his Perry Fewell special passive prevent defense that only prevents us from winning. The amount of time Romo had to pass was embarrassingly long. On one of those plays, Dez Bryant had time to break his original route & run all the way from the left to right hash marks before catching the pass that broke our backs. The best defensive backs in the NFL would not have been able to contain a good receiver that long.
Granted, the blitzes we did try earlier did not reach Romo in time, leading me to think that either our LBs & CBs are not quick enough for the NFL, or Fewell is not aggressive enough. I have heard that Spagnuola may be available next year. Spag's idea of defense is attack, attack, attack. His players react positively to that & I would love to see him return.
So, tune in next week & see how we do against someone in our own league, so to speak, the woeful 1-10 Jags.
I wouldn't mind getting Richberg in at center, either. fuck it, let's see what we got.
WR Washington can this guy still not even see the field the season is over. We have two healthy NFL WR's OBJ and RR the rest are trash so why not bring in someone with speed not on our roster. Parker is a special team guy if that can't we really find anyone to replace him in the offense JR.
TE Robinson its time we find out if this guy deserves to come back next season, he is our only signed TE presently yet we know nothing about him.
DT Bromley, DE Wynn look can they do any worse than our present starters are. When is a better chance for them to learn than now without the pressure of team success.
I just want to see the young guys play the vets have shown they suck lets begin the rebuild now not preseason next year. In fact I would even consider these preseason games they don't matter it's all about evaluations of these young guys.
uh, what? did you miss the part where the DB wrap himself around ODB and pulled his shirt?
great catch aside, that throw by Eli was money. On his 3rd read, no less.
rolle and thurmond really talked about how good behre was during preseason and then they dont play him for trash like demps?
j.williams keeps getting beaten in coverage and hasnt been the same since his rookie run to the superbowl so why is kennard not getting more chances
the real reason this team has the record it has is the OL they cant sustain drives to keep the defence fresh, they dont score enough points and when they do its a long td Like that 43yd to beckham that gives the ball back to the opposition to quickly and forces a worn defence with a muppet for a DC back out there to lose the game for them
(thou admittedly eli lost the 9ers game with his INT's)
fix the OL next offseason (2 OL in first 3 rounds or 1 plus a DECENT FA not another brown or terry) and replace that muppet of a DC this team could compete again with some further time in the macadoo system eli is getting more comfortable add backham, cruz and get beckham to show randle how to run routes like him this offence could be very good next year
egg zactly
This week: "We don't want the Giants to score too quickly,"
No they wont.
I'm glad you find comfort in the fact that the Giants didn't get blown out, but that doesn't mean that they're on the cusp of becoming good.
they fired fassel after one injury-plagued year and just one year removed from almost making it to the second round of the playoffs and three years removed from making it to the super bowl.
they fired reeves after three consecutive missed playoff seasons, even though those dave-brown led teams did show some fight.
i have no doubt that if the giants go 3-2 the rest of the way, landing at 6-10, with three straight missed playoff seasons and 5 out of the last 6 missed playoffs (with almost 6 straight if they didn't squeak in 2011 with a 9-7 record), mara will ask coughlin to retire or be let go.
Seriously? I know
We stopped learning about this team in Philly.
ask it this way:
if we shredded each of those opponents 56-0 with complete dominance, do you feel better about things? I know I won't.

if the cause of the 56-0 was our offensive line gelling/playing lights out and guys like moore, hankins, bromley, kennard, behre etc having an impact on defense, then i would. but we aren't blowing out the rest of our schedule.
If Pugh is healthy again, I'd like to see him at RT, Schwartz at RG and Richburg at C or at least LG.
Cruz is not guaranteed to be back to his former self.
I think the cumulative deflating impact of the last several weeks is going to result in a letdown this week, travelling to Jax to play a meaningless game
When you go from the having to face the opponents they were facing with the season on the line to now being out of it and facing a just a poor Jacksonville team in essentially a meaningless game in a half empty stadium is a bad situation.
At least last year when the Giants were eliminated from the playoffs, they could still try and play spoiler in a couple games and they were able to do so against Detroit.
This time, the next 4 games don't even bring that. Three of them are on the road in atmospheres that will resemble preseason football.
We are hoping for the young guys to get a chance here during this time, but that is unlikely to happen as the "veterans" will continue to get the time.
The idea of "carryover" into next season in terms of the W-L record has been debunked by the teams performance to start the 2013 and 2014 seasons. So whether they finish 6-10 or 4-12 really doesn't matter.
I won't even bother with the rest of your post. You've got to be kidding me. Why did he have to make that great catch? BECAUSE HE WAS BEING HELD BY A DEFENDER
Putting Eli on the sidelines is completely wrong, because he needs to continue to develop his chemistry with the players here. Obviously take him out in blowout situations, but we're paying him MILLIONS and he will be the QB here for at least another few years, guaranteed. This is not the start of a new era. Eli is a 2x world champion, 2x SB MVP, he's the franchise and he's not going anywhere, anytime soon.
Deal with it
Yup. We've had 11 games to determine how bad we are. We're 3-8, I think it's crystal clear.
Dropping a few spots in the draft due to meaningless wins sure didn't hurt them last year.

for the coach, and we'll do this same song and dance next season with the same cast of characters.

I kind of hope that you're right, but the coaches that you used in your example didn't win two super bowls and were not handpicked by John's dad. The circumstances are different. I don't think the franchise even liked Jim Fassel much. Coughlin is practically family.
