Assuming Gus Bradley is fired by Jacksonville

NYGmen58 : 11/25/2014 2:08 pm
after this season, and the Giants are looking to make a change at DC, he's a guy I would keep my eye on.

Not only is it an appropriate and timely topic given that we play the Jaguars, but he is know for an aggressive 4-3 defense which Coughlin and the Giants prefer.

I normally don't like tossing coaches names out there, especially during the season, but he is still a younger, up-and-coming guy who was just in a bad situation with the Jaguars. Remember, the Eagles were likely going to try and hire Bradley if they couldn't land Kelly. It would seem like a mutual good fit for both he and the Giants.

Is there any chance he stays with the Jaguars for another year? If not, is there any reason the Giants should not consider him?

I doubt he's fired

Jags suck, but the front office knew it was more than a 2 year rebuild there.
why in the hell would Bradley be fired by Jacksonville?
Giantsfan79 : 11/25/2014 2:14 pm : link
it's his first year as coach, rookie QB, and it's not like they had high expectations going into the year that they've missed out on.

on the short list

I like him too and would be a big supporter simply because I loved the way the Seahawks play D. They reminded me of the 1990 Giants D.

Up front, his scheme would fit Damontre Moore as an up-the-field elephant/RDE. Hankins and Suh (haha) would be great DT's inside. And of course JPP/Ayers rotation at LDE.

Also think he could utilize Bromley as the #3 DT.

At linebacker, Beason is the MIKE another year and could target WLB K.J. Wright (Seahawks) along with having McClain back.

Secondary is good for the Seahawks scheme w/man CBs in Prince + DRC, and Thurmond returning at a cheap rate. Thurmond and K.J. would already know the scheme.

S - I'd keep Rolle and let Cooper Taylor try the Cam Chancellor role- a player Taylor compared himself too when drafted. Berhe also may have some promise as a backup SS.

-------

And of course I am all for a defense-heavy draft finding players who fit new guys scheme

2nd season. But he's still not likely to get fired.
Bradley isn't getting fired

The ownership and front office are all in agreement that this was a multi year rebuild.
I agree he isn't going to be fired, why did you assume that he would ?

This makes no sense

Jaguars are trying to establish stability as an organization. They have a first year head coach and a rookie QB they hope is the face of their franchise. They also went out an invested money in free-agency bringing in players that fit into Bradley's defensive scheme.

limiting Luck and the rest of the colts offense
Well they finished 4-12 last year and are 1-10 at the moment.
NYGmen58 : 11/25/2014 3:09 pm : link
Unless they find momentum against the Giants (which is very possible) and win the majority of their remaining games, they will have an even worse record in 2014.

And we're not talking going from 8-8 to 6-10, we're talking about a combined total of 6-8 wins in 2 seasons.

They could easily decide to move on.
I'm with everyone else on here
nedhiggins : 11/25/2014 3:16 pm : link
no way he gets canned. You think they would honestly start a rookie QB with a crappy o line and mediocre at best defense and can the guy? I would put big money and give you some good odds on that
I'd say it's 99% he's not fired
rsjem1979 : 11/25/2014 3:35 pm : link
They didn't hire him then then use a high draft pick on a QB before his 2nd season to can him before his 3rd.

ESPN and Bleacher Report have speculated that

Bradley's job may be in jeopardy because the team has regressed from last year.

Take Bradley or anyone else still breathing and replace Fewell.
It's not likely he is fired, but Never say Never
Geeman : 11/25/2014 4:51 pm : link
Chudz for Cleveland was hired and fired after 1 year.
If this guy shakes loose, he should be on the short list for DC new hires.
Defensive head coaches possibly looking for coordinator work next season
mako J : 11/25/2014 5:02 pm : link
Bradley
Mike Smith
Rivera
Rex

Who would you prefer?
The Seattle defense sucked the first 2 years Bradley was DC, FWIW...
arcarsenal : 11/25/2014 5:14 pm : link
They gave up a lot of yards (particularly could not stop the pass)

His 2nd two years when they were one of the best defenses in football, they were loaded with talent. We have nothing close to what they had those years. And it's why Dan Quinn was able to step in and have them not miss a beat.

I'm not saying Fewell deserves any more of a pass here but we are in some serious need of talent on the defensive side of the football. This linebacking group is legitimately embarrassing.
Not that I'm blaming Bradley, I'm sure a lot of it is talent issues
GMenLTS : 11/25/2014 5:30 pm : link
but their defense really blows.
Riviera would be a good choice.....

A classy guy and a real leader. Has a shithead QB and deserves better.
They have a rookie Quarterback
youngdavid74 : 11/25/2014 9:19 pm : link
Bradley pretty much gets a pass this season for that reason alone.

This is correct.

That defense is all Pete Carroll through scheme, coaching and talent acquisition. The DC position in Seattle is more of a disciple that executes the vision of the head coach, game to game.

Having said that, Bradley and Quinn know the structure of the 4-3 Under pretty well so they can be pretty good in building defenses. Bradley already poached Red Bryant and Chris Clemons from the Hawks this offseason.
