What's on the menu for tomorrow guys? Whole Foods in Union Square (which is normally well run) was quite the cluster fuck picking up my turkey yesterday but what can you do!
for the first time in my life we will not be having Thanksgiving here. My older was very recently hospitalized and altho she is out as of later today and with her mother and their family, she wont be home in time so weve had to cancel. Maybe we can do something later when shes back. The worst year of my life continues...

Sorry Nate. 2015 will be your year.
as usual, I will be making the best mashed potatoes on earth
and turnips, as well as the stuffed mushrooms. My sister is making the pies, roasted brussel sprouts and some kind of carrot dish. Mom's got the rest - the bird, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc.
We're making Alton Brown's turkey recipe again along with all the usuals (stuffing, gravy, squash, mashed potatoes etc...). Nothing too fancy.
I've done the same the past three years (Alton Brown). However, this year we've decided to go to my mother-in-laws place instead of having everyone over at our place since the little one is only a month old and the whole food preparation will be more of a pain. But we may be stuck at home (eating randomness) if this forecast of snow actually happens...:)
Sort of on a tangent, but I don't think any Thanksgiving entertainment will ever rival that of watching from the roof of our COC a dozen MLRS-launched rockets being launched, then going into the COC to watch a predator feed of those rockets hitting their target 20km away on a 8000ft mountain top to eliminate the AO's #1 target. Watching Thursday football seems far more relaxing than that...:)

I'm sorry to hear, nate. But stay strong. Wishing you the best through the holidays.
Home of the bacon wrapped turkey. She's been doing it this way for 40+ years. The bacon fat naturally bastes the turkey and it then melts into the skin making it perhaps the best part of the whole bird.
Be safe if you travel (10"+ of snow here today) and all the best to you and yours.
1)use Yukon golds
2)boil them whole, skins on, to help reduce how waterlogged they get. Peel them after they boil.
3)after peeling, put them back in the pot on low heat to mash. You want to dry them out and get excess moisture out of them.
4)Warm the milk and add to the mash only a bit at a time so they don't get gluey.
This year I went yesterday and the largest fresh turkey they had was 15 pounds. I didn't think I had the time or space for two turkeys.
I almost panicked and then at Stop & Shop I found one large turkey - 29 pounds but it was organic and over $100. F-that. I asked the butcher guy and finally he found me a fresh 28 pound turkey.
But I was close to going with the 15 pound turkey and a ham because I waited so long to buy it.
I feel like I always get the fresh turkey on Tuesday or even Wednesday, not sure why this year was different.
Going with the traditional sliced turkey and gravy in a
had our canadian thanksgiving back in October, so while y'all are watching football and having fun I will be having a food court salad and drinking coffee. Enjoy the holiday!
it was inappropriate here. We will get thru it. Happy TG to everyone at BBI.
No apologies nate. Tough year. We are sorry that it has been a bad year for you. Hope your sister feels better and hope you get to celebrate Thanksgiving later.

Salt, pepper, and stuff the cavity with halved apples, chopped carrots, and halved clementines. Rub the skin with olive oil.
Cook it on 325 until it's done. Shut the oven off and cover with foil until ready to eat. The liquid from the fruit keeps the breast nice and moist.
Strain the juices and add to your gravy stock. No brining, comes out perfectly juicy, flavorful, and it's a real crowd pleaser.
