Teams with a legitimate franchise quarterback
Patriots
Steelers
Ravens
Colts
Broncos
Chargers
Giants
Cowboys
Packers
Lions
Falcons
Panthers
Saints
49ers
Seahawks
Teams with a young quarterback who might have a pretty realistic chance to elevate to franchise QB
Vikings
Teams with a mostly solid QB, but I wouldn't call him a franchise QB
Dolphins
Bengals
Chiefs
Eagles
Bears
Cardinals
Teams who don't have a current or potential franchise quarterback on their roster
Jets
Bills
Browns
Texans
Titans
Jaguars
Raiders
Redskins
Buccaneers
Rams
So to recap, 46.9 percent of teams have a franchise quarterback. This is due to the fact that when you get a franchise QB, you hold onto him. The average years that a franchise QB has been with his current team is 7.6 years, well above the 3.3 year career of the average NFL player. The median average is Eleven of those 15 teams have a winning record. Fourteen out of 15 of those teams have had a winning season from either this season or one of the previous two. All 15 have had a winning season either this year or the previous three.
3.1 percent of teams have a QB that could be a franchise QB eventually. Teddy Bridgewater could be within the next few years.
18.8 percent have a QB is mostly solid, but isn't quite a franchise quarterback. They could elevate to that level, but it's equally conceivable that they won't (i.e. Andy Dalton and Ryan Tannehill). Some might have been viewed as a franchise QB once upon a time, but haven't really been seen as that in a very long time (i.e. Jay Cutler).
31.3 percent of teams have no franchise QB on the roster. It's pretty clear that Robert Griffin, Geno Smith, Jake Locker, and others are not the answer for those teams. They will likely be looking to upgrade within the next 1-3 years. Only two of these teams have a winning record. The overall record of these teams since 2011 is 208-381 (this includes Houston's 2011 and 2012 seasons which were a combined 22-10 under Matt Schuab (once upon a time, a franchise QB).
So to recap, teams with franchise quarterbacks are winners. And about one-third of teams don't have a franchise QB. Those teams are by and large, consistent losers.
So tell me again why you're so eager to leave one club for another?
Unfortunately, this team is awful right now and, worse, is awful in a way that won't likely yield any sort of quick turnaround, as they don't have many high-end pieces. By the time they may actually be in line to be good again, eli is likely going to be 36 or so.
He's just not really a fit for where this franchise is right now outside of being the LCD's punching bag. The Giants are going to stink for awhile with or without him.
One position on the OL is not all there is holding this team back from even mediocrity.

Just stop already. That's poppycock. It's not as bad as it seems. This is the NFL in 2014.
getting a statue too.
then there is the second tier of franchise QBs- QBs with a lot of solid skill sets, who will make you competitive week in week out, who you can win a super bowl with, but who also have weaknesses in the game that need to be shored up by the game planning and surrounding talent. they are better than average and they may occasionally play exceptional ball and make the tough throws that the average or below average QBs cannot make. and you can build a franchise around them, but you need to evaluate the costs/benefits really carefully when deciding how long to invest. while you try and hold on to them because you fear ending up with a QB in the bottom half you also need to look out for alternatives and succession planning.
Please STOP the udder nonsense!!!
This team has one receiving weapon worth a shit in Beckham, as Cruz has a good chance of never being the same again (unfortunately). Their RBs aren't anything special even with Jennings healthy. Their TEs are mostly a bunch of JAGs.
Their defense is an utter abomination and lacks talent at every single position and, for the longterm good, probably has to take the shortterm hit of losing both JPP and Rolle after this season.
This is not going to be a good team next season, even with a great draft that contributes heavily early.
Can call one BBI and the other BBnoELi
Someone's milking this for all it's worth.

A: I really don’t know how to answer that question. I think we are doing some good things offensively. At times we have been in some close games, especially these last two weeks. We felt we had opportunities to win these last two games and just fell short. I think guys have competed and played well enough, and put us in positions to win those games. I think you look back to our 2006 season. We went 8-8, we weren’t a very dominant team, next year without really much adjustment with players and personnel, we win a championship. I think that is kind of the way football goes. Being with the same crew for a year, two years, or three years, it is going to make you stronger and more comfortable. We had some new guys on this squad and hopefully we will be able to stick together for a few more years and make something special. I think it can start right now. It can start at this time. I think we have made some improvement, we are doing some better things, but it is not too late to get on a hot streak, and get things rolling right now.Q: You have played on championship teams, both of which were to some degree defined by the offensive and defensive line play. When you look at what is surrounding up front and also the defensive line, how does this group compare to championship level players?

you have to look at Eli's age and his salary expectations and look at the opportunity costs and alternatives. if this is not the year that we have a successor ready in the draft or free agency, then we hold on to him. but if the giants feel there is a can't miss. elite prospect in the draft that is the QB of the future, you need to look really hard and carefully at the opportunity.
the other wildcard is the coaching situation. coughlin and reese may not be back after this year. the new GM/coach may have a different offensive philosophy or may want to allocate limited resources to the trenches and/or the defense.
You dont shit can that!
We are the Giants not the Redskins.

Go back to YA Tittle who we traded for and see how
many QB's we have been through .
the defense and running game were solid, but Kannel played very solid football that year and did more than game management.
he threw a long pass to calloway to beat detroit in the silverdome in OT.
Or the NFC east winning game when they destroyed the jeff hostettler led redskins he had a very solid outing.
@ Coughlin Rules - Brady, Rogers and Brees have been remarkably consistent playing behind very different offensive lines. Has Brady ever missed two consecutive playoff appearances? brees was impacted by the payton suspension, but that entire team was obviously impacted by that.

I agree. We need a lot more talent on the OL and on the offense in general. We need more guys who can make plays.
When defense is factored in, I think, we are 2-3 years away, assuming we can draft well, sign impact FAs, AND stay healthy.
I don't think it's all on Brees, but he pretty clearly doesn't fit the makes-everything-all-better-by-himself meme either, if you must rust to force such a thing (as if Brady isn't playing for a guy who got 11 wins out of Matt Cassell or Peyton didn't roll up to a team that made the playoffs with Tebow).
brees has been with the Saints for 9 years now. He has been .500 or worse 4 of those 9 years. Now thats what I call elevating a team!!!!
People really overrate Brees to the point is funny. Whats even funnier is that Les in notorious for saying how Eli makes "game changing INTs" yet fails to mention that NO's three of their last four losses were a DIRECT result from a Brees turnover...
Detroit - INT with 3:00 to go with 6 point lead returned to NO 10 yard line. Detroit scores, wins the game.
SF - fumble in OT. SF recovered and kicked FG to win the game.
Baltimore - pick 6 to will Hill.
Les really has NO CLUE when it comes to the QB position. He will just spout shit out and hope it sticks, but it rarely does.
Thats why guys like Madden say there are only about 10 real QB's in the league, because everyone else is not dependable.
[quote] Drew Brees looks pretty pedestrian these days no? Brady didn't look so good when his line couldn't block for him either..Am I right? Rodgers was looking not so video gamish and got hurt when his line couldn't block a few years back.. So much for Elite QB's -It's All About the LINE.
Put a shitty QB behind a good OL and he's still a shitty QB. Put a good/great QB behind a good line and he's the best he can be.
The OL is, obviously, very important. But even a great OL won't make Creme Brulee out of watery poop.
Except Les's posts are not accurate.
When it comes to career resume Eli takes a back seat to no QB playing today.
Does this mean he is "better", I do not know. I do know he is the best QB for the Giants.
Honestly 2011 should have put all of this to bed since none of the guys people put in the top category have carried a team like Eli did that season and playoffs. He capped that off with the all time record for passing yards in a postseason with a game winning super bowl drive. A drive that included one of the best passes in NFL history. Funny thing is it was his SECOND best super bowl winning drive and his SECOND best career play. Guy's resume stands second to no one.
Moreover, Eli can handle NY, something he gets way too little credit for.
Keep your rankings, I'll take Eli.
Well said
Les please explain to me why Brady looked like utter garbage the first 5 weeks this season and couldn't carry his team? Now all of a sudden the Pats have fixed their OL and now Brady looks all world. Funny how that shit works huh?
Bree's has looked fantastic with a sub par OL too. Shit the same can be said about the rest of those guys. No OL means no success.
But you and the rest of the anti-Eli assclowns on this board have it all figured out...yup, it's all on Eli.
I swear it's not that hard people. Give Eli some protection with a good OL and we'll be fine.
Sanchez has 8 turnovers in 3 and 1/2 games. Oops?
Jets
Bills
Browns
Texans
Titans
Jaguars
Raiders
Redskins
Buccaneers
Rams
Jets: The Giants are never trading their franchise QB to the Jets
Browns: If Hoyer goes to FA they will give Johnny Football a chance
Titans: They'll give Mettenberger a chance
Jaguars: They drafted Bortles #3 in the draft, they're not throwing him to the side for a couple of years at least
Raiders: I don't think Carr is a franchise QB but they'll give him another year
Redskins: Same scenario as Jets
Bucs: They're in position to draft a QB so they'll consider that before trading lots of draft picks
So the Bills, Texans, Rams and possibly Cards are your only real trade partners
Thats why guys like Madden say there are only about 10 real QB's in the league, because everyone else is not dependable.
Big Ben sucked when his line was injured, look it up. We know what happened to rodgers when his line went down too. Peyton had no time in Supe how'd he do?
You dont shit can that!

This is not the NFL us older fans are familiar with. Denver is paying what for Peyton? If they do not win a SB this year, how much longer do you think he will play and be effective, is the cost worth the results? I have not lost any confidence in Eli's abilities but, you can see his anxiety affecting his play as the hits keep piling up. We did not field an adequate supporting cast to justify the expense of a top-tier QB. I expect Eli to be back next year but would not be shocked if that didn't happen. I would be shocked if we re-sign Eli to a new long-term deal though! Nassib hasn't even had a chance, yet so many "experts" here on the board want the team to draft a stud QB in the 1st rd, need I say "RG3", Ryan Leach, etc...? Here is some fodder, a 6th rd compensatory pick in 2000, Tom Brady. Just saying.

Huh? The ol' "Tom Brady was a 6th rd pick!" discussion.
Quote:
ala 1970 or 1990. For all you people wishing this, it will take a few games of a non-top tier QB to see the error. Teams can not win without a good/top QB. IF you think Nassib is the answer you are wrong, he is a career backup. If you think a new draft pick is the answer, well who knows itsa crap shoot. But if even it works, it will be a 3 year project (like Eli was).
Well said
You (2) should apply for Reese's job, I heard the Giants are going to need a top-notch personnel evaluator! There isn't enough info available to determine the ability level of Nassib! They thought highly enough to trade up to get him when we had other, yes, more pressing needs. Before we waste a #1 on a hit or miss QB, lets solidify the OL, get good WR's, TE's and RB's. A#1 for a QB when you do not have a line to protect him is a huge waste of resources. Ask Shannahan!
