One of the more underrated aspects of a pass rush is collapsing the pocket, preventing the QB from stepping up to pass and/or forcing the QB out of the pocket and into the DEs. Aside from being able to,stuff the run Suh would significantly pressure th QBs and help our anemic pass rush- not to mention force sacks and turnovers. As TC stated when he joined the Giants- it starts with the Lines in both sides of the ball and Suh would be a huge boost to the DL
Bryant
Demaryious Thomas
Randall Cobb (though he is a Beckham type player)
Maclin
There are also quality WRs on a slightly lower tier that would cost less:
Torrey Smith
Cecil Shorts
Andre Holmes
Crabtree
Britt
These guys are all still young and have been successful (to varying degrees). Better to sign a WR then keep burning draft picks. Reese has been about 50-50 on WR picks.

Maclin's having a nice season, but he's not in the same class as those other 3.
One of those "2nd tier" WRs is the most likely option. Good insurance in case Cruz isn't 100%.
Iupati one of them, and Suh.
Financially having both could be crippling, and though I like Suh, I believe our O can be exceptional with a good OL and another WR, slot if it has to be, considering.
The 20M NOT spent on Suh could by another good OL, and fill a few needs.
And STILL draft an OL at 1 or 2; MI might be a bit of beat up warrior, and GS is 33.
DT is in better shape than DE and he will cost a fortune. Something realistic.
DT might be in "better" shape, but it's definitely not a strong position. Outside of Hankins there is an unknown in Bromley, the aging Patterson, the aging-injured Jenkins, and the (generously) mediocre Kuhn.

Completely agree that this team needs some toughness (on both sides), but wouldn't Spikes be a 2-down LB in this D?
The defense figures to be a completely different system next year. But even if he has to come off the field on passing downs it doesn't mean he couldn't add great value.
Remember Jeremiah Trotter? He didn't do much in pass defense but I remember him having an enormous impact on the running game. He was an unusually strong, violent player...a defensive tackle in a linebacker's body. I always thought he was a great asset to any defense he was on. EJ Henderson was the same way.
I feel similarly about Spikes. He's an unusually violent hitter, and can take on OL en route to the ball carrier.
The Giants defense needs Spikes or a guy with a similar approach to the game in the worst way. This defense now just gets pushed around and it's insulting to a franchise that has always been about defense.
is not involved in this process as he brings us another David Baas or some other invalid that their former team wants no part of as does the rest of the NFL except this genius.

When healthy Baas played very well for us. He was huge during our Super Bowl run in 2011. Guess Reese should have used his crystal ball to predict injuries again.
if they clear Iupati's noggin I'd sign him and Cannon. Voila, OL : Beatty-Pugh-Richburg-Iupati-Cannon ... and then draft a prospect they think could represent an upgrade over Beatty.
Defense needs a lot of help, I'd sign a DT and Carter. Beason probably gets another year, I'd wager.
Unlikely the above happens given our cap situation, but ...
is interesting to me. Would be a GREAT 3rd down or back out of the backfield. Can even split him wide. Him and Jennings would be a very nice combo.
I would tend to agree with you .. HOWEVER, we would never use him correctly. Last week we ran a screen and the game thread here nearly collapsed from shock. Plus, if we do not fix this O-line, the our RBs will continue to have to stay back to support protecting Eli.
defense. Iupati would elevate running game by leaps and bounds. Torrey Smith added to Beckham and Cruz would create mismatches everywhere. Unless Melvin Gordon is the pick use the draft for OL on 2 of first 3 picks with LB the other.
it is meant to fortify certain areas if you need a player here or there.
But it should not be used as a tool to build the roster.
This is where the poor drafting is hurting us. We would not need to worry about who the free agents are if we could internally have solutions.
Instead, we put in money on a bunch of "buyer beware" players at either inflated prices or at short commitments to where they can outplay their contract and sign elsewhere if he actually works out.

The Giantsvhave approx 90 million in cap space for 2016 according to under the cap. Even if they sign Eli for $20 million they appear able to sign just about anything they want. Losing for multiple years, retirements and missing kn draft choices has some advantages.
and would be a couple steps up from Randle who could be our #4 receiver. With Beckham & Crabtree on the outside and Cruz in the slot and Randle off the bench we could really do a lot of damage offensively!!!

I like the crabtree option as well. A guard or right tackle is needed as well. A pass rusher too

The problem wasn't the initial contract. It was the two restructures after he had shown to be injury prone while a Giant. Reese the Teflon GM loves on no matter how many times he fucks up
