Pat Traina on why we havent seen Damontre Moore

So why haven't we seen more of Damontre Moore? TC explains: "Because there are times during the week when you talk about confidence level

"...whether it’s assignment football or whatever. For whatever reason,

Patricia Traina @Patricia_Traina · 20m 20 minutes ago
".. it hasn’t been something that we thought he knows exactly what he’s doing and so on and so forth.

"The practices have to fulfill the idea that we can go ahead + play him [in] all circumstances, not just on 3rd down.

So in other words, what I've been telling you guys all along. Moore hasn't been consistent in practice, which is where it all starts.

Patricia Traina @Patricia_Traina · 5m 5 minutes ago
Guys, don't shoot the messenger.I'm just relaying what TC said about practice reps.

than see if Moore plays better in games than he practices.

It's not about 'playing better'
shepherdsam : 11/26/2014 1:29 pm : link
It's about knowing what you're supposed to be doing.

It's really fucked up that there are people here who still can't grasp this.
At this point IMO there is a major disconnect
LauderdaleMatty : 11/26/2014 1:30 pm : link
Between the FO and the coaching staff. Since we've seen so many ups and downs w the defense Fewell needs to go.

My problem is if TC doesn't really run the O and doesn't really do anything w the D how much of a Head coach will he be if retained? Lord knows he doesn't want to take full credit for the shitty specials.

And if he's right and the players Reese gives him suck?

Can we just clean house on both and bring in fresh people. I don't think either the coaching staff or the front office leave me with the feeling they really know what the fuck to do at this point.

he makes a play just about every game, in his limited time on the field. But they can't find a way to get him in there more, even if it's situational. Makes sense..
okay coach
Bleedin Blue : 11/26/2014 1:33 pm : link
If he hasn't progressed, do you think that maybe coach Nunn or Fewell are not doing their jobs. Gee Coach, do you think that maybe the pieces that Reese are giving you (get that, Reese's Pieces) are all Like Adrien Robinson?? Someone dropping the ball.
So another

so called promising relatively high draft pick (#81) who will not contribute. And to the worst defense in the league yet. Maybe thats why he lasted so long after a very productive and highly publicized college career? Guess you can blame Coughlin but looking like another bust by Reese and Ross to me. Are you watching this Mara ? By the way where is Jay Bromley these days?

Maybe not, but we're the next to last ranked defense and 3-7. At this point, if Moore goes on, how much farther does that defense really have to go? 3-8? 32nd? We're not exactly putting a title on the line by trying him out.
Shep, did Kiwi look like he knows what he'd doing

I understand what Patty is saying
pjcas18 : 11/26/2014 1:38 pm : link
and it makes sense and it's what many people on here suspected from the beginning.

However the counter point is if the guy ahead of him on the depth chart knows perfectly well what to do, yet continually and obviously cannot do it, how is that better than putting a guy who may have the physical skills and athletic ability to do the job - but he might not fully know the job.

LOL, it's like a paradox, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

in a lost season I think it makes a little sense to throw Moore into the fire and find out just how much he doesn't know about his responsibilities.

It seems like they do this with OL more often and it's not like Moore is going to get Eli killed, he's just going to give up large chunks of yards and points....like they've been doing.

^This. But it sounds like he can't get on the field for the same reason as Brewer, namely that the coaches don't trust them to know their assignments. Shouldn't that have been known before they were drafted?

Putting Moore in cannot be worse than what we are seeing now.

Moore
stretch234 : 11/26/2014 1:49 pm : link
Baffling. Right now they won't even utilize him in a pass rush situations. How does this staff look at film and see 31 yr old Kiwi and deem him a more viable every down option.

You are sinking with Kiwi now and he is not going to be here next year. Why not see what Moore can do.

Well somehow he still produces when gets on the field.
Jacobs27 : 11/26/2014 1:49 pm : link
I'd rather have someone miss an occasional assignment who can play than trot one of the worst players in the league out there in Kiwanuka.

This team is absolutely desperate for a pass rush and this kids has been very effective at getting to the QB this year when given a chance.

This is why I want TC and PF gone...not because of our overall record or terrible defense....but because of the stupid decisions they continue to make.

This really burns me up
Geeman : 11/26/2014 1:53 pm : link
So he's good enough to get on the field sometimes, and he'll typically make a few plays, but he's not good enough to play more on one of the worst defenses in the league???
Then coach him up cause the guys in front of him know the plays but can't make plays.
The team is going nowhere so he may as well be getting experience even if he misses an assignment...smh
Fewell has to go...this is ridiculous.
He's either as dumb as a post
HomerJones45 : 11/26/2014 1:54 pm : link
or he does whatever he feels like doing out there and to hell with everyone else-take your pick.
Complaints on the coaching staff
SLIM : 11/26/2014 1:54 pm : link
Coughlin has been very successful but subscribes to the overload theory. He doesn't spoon feed younger players.

I'm not sure if that works that well with the combination of reduced on-field practice time and free agency.

In the case of Moore specifically, I think he has flashed when he has been in there. He is at least around the quarterback. It is 2014 and there is an absolute need for players who can rush the passer only. Moore doesn't need to play 1st down at all if he can get to the quarterback.

Moore and Ayers should start
Sergio : 11/26/2014 1:55 pm : link
and play 75% of the snaps the rest of the season. Kiki is gone and JPP has underachieved.
DE
Les in TO : 11/26/2014 1:55 pm : link
is not a position that should require much cerebral analysis. there may be some additional things to keep in mind depending on the rushing attack of the opponent or a wildcat/option. but at the very least, why not see some snaps when the other team is in a hurry up offense mode or in an obvious passing situation on third and long.
and from the rest of TC's comment
HomerJones45 : 11/26/2014 1:56 pm : link
they are trying to coach him up to be a starting lineman for all three downs but all he wants to do is rush the passer ie do whatever the fuck he feels like doing.
His first two years, Aldon Smith had no clue what he was doing either.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/26/2014 1:58 pm : link
His 33.5 sacks persuaded the 49ers to tolerate his mistakes, both on and off the field.

Obviously, DaMonster isn't Aldon Smith. But he's the closest thing we've got.

so Kiwi does well in practice and

GTFO, Moore stats in limited snaps shames Coughlin starters that he loves so much. More ridiculousness from the old man. Please retire Tom.

Sure they should and whether they will get injured or not. Isn't predicting the future part of the job description.
this is the problem with a coaching staff coaching for their jobs

they understandably don't care about anything except the next game.

Right now the Giants should be developing talent for next year and beyond.

Thank you. And Moore will probably be OK next year but is considered a liability this year.
Funny how Osi just ran up the field outside the OT on every down
Rjanyg : 11/26/2014 2:48 pm : link
forgoing stopping the run, yet Moore can't get on the field?
He was drafted to get after the passer. He has been getting pressure and has a few sacks this year, yet Kiwi, who is breaking down before our eyes, is better because he knows his assignments better? Is that why Moore isn't on the field? OK then why is Ayers on the bench?
Moore is a liabilty?

is just about the least cerebral position on the football field, at least defensively. It's instincts and athleticism. Fire off, find the ball and go get it.

I understand to an extent what Coughlin is saying. But at some point you have to see what you have in the kid by giving him extended snaps, especially in a lost season. some guys find their game when the lights are on. Maybe Moore is that type of guy, maybe he isn't. but we have no clue and that's the point. About to head into year three and we still don't have a good read on this kid.

Plus, we sure as hell know what we have in Kiwi at this point and it ain't good.

reliably ineffective...HA! He does suck doesn't he. Remember after he drafted him when Ernie said you cant have enough pass rushers? Talk about a whiff.....
To follow it up he said, "When you put pressure on the passer, everybody else's job is easier"....conversly I guess you can say when you dont put pressure on the passer EVERYBODY'S job is hard, DB's LB's QB's, etc.

Yes, because it must be proven to the cognescenti in the fan base that they in fact don't know what they are talking about.
