I can't remember the last sub 6' WR who made as many contested catches as Beckham. And he's not real thick either. He just plays so much bigger than he is.
When arguing with my friends about the best rookie WR I bring that up everytime. This guy had a couple of reps during training camp, missed all of the preseason and the first 4 games and still has 41 receptions with 609 yards & 5 TDs in 7 weeks. Which is insane for the time he missed.
say we do get lucky and draft Amari Cooper. The expectations put on him based on what OBJ is doing, would be unfair. There is not1 comment that I remember reading that when Beckham eventually did step on the field that he would flat out dominate from day 1, not one person saw this coming

Cooper and odb might be overrated, just like Julio jones and roddy white.
what this means is that he and our OC are going to have to work that much harder.
First, we can bet that teams are going to find a way to limit his impact on the game. So, our OC absolutely MUST respond to that. Take advantage of opportunities on the other side of the field and/or do more to free up Odell from being doubled, etc.
Although he's only (listed) 6 ft...he's long, has the big hands, body control and explosiveness to play like a big man. At the same time, he can benefit from having the lower center of gravity to accelerate very quickly in and out of his breaks that limit some of the bigger receivers. With our track record of having very promising rookies/young players flame out (jpp, nicks, Phillips, Shockey to an extent) you hate to get your hopes up, but he has the potential to be very, very special.
that the only thing that will help this offense is an OL, you're being insanely short sighted. Teams are already gonna have to double OBJ on most plays. If the Giants can put a player the caliber of Cooper on the other side, they will also have to account for him. This will not afford the opponents the opportunity to crowd the line of scrimmage, and will make them think long and hard about sending too many blitzes, because they could get burned.
The Giants OL has been horrible, there is no questioning that. But there is also more than one way to skin a cat. Teams, up until OBJ exploded on the scene, have not respected the Giants passing game all year. They have loaded up the box to stop the run and blitzed without having to worry about any consequences. The WR couldn't get any separation. Add Cooper to OBJ, and everything changes.
They still obviously need to upgrade the OL, but they don't have to use a 1st rounder on one at all costs, like many on this site seem to think.
First, he has to say healthy. Get a full camp in to perfect his game and timing.
Second, he could use an upgraded OL to give him more time and a better run game which would help to open things up for him.
Third, having a TE to clear the middle of the field and a safety valve running back. Why RB? Because he could draw double coverage and just go deep which would open things up short for the RB and TE I'd think.
Beckham requires double teaming most plays which means he'll make everyone around him better.
He can't shield and play the ball like Evans can? That's exactly what he did on the highlight of the year. And he's been winning on contested balls since he's been in the lineup, the linked article says as much.
And regardless of whether or not he can run through contact like Watkins can, you're digging pretty deep if that's the identifiable quality that separates him from Watkins.
if he had a #2 and/or #3 WR that could open things up for him?
Re: draft: I still want them to finally start drafting OL at 1 this year, 1 or 2 next year. Really need the infusion of young legs, and some good FA OL signings, not named Jerry/Brown or Jerry Brown.

ok I get your point and there is some merit to that. However, that puts the Giants one hamstring injury away from being dog shit on offense with no ability to run.

Go for the OT.
I generally don't worry about the jets. They're not my team
And to top it off Julio Jones is a top 5 WR, IMO. That whole post wreaks.

So having two dynamic WR is overrated. Having Cooper and Beckham is not the smart play...go for the OT.
It's just not worded well.
He's also not going to turn into a RB run through a lot of tackles like Watkins can. He's not as thick.
Doesn't mean he's not better than them, but there's certain things he just physically can't do at 5'11", 195.
As for Roddy White, he's old and injured. If Jones played next to 2008 Roddy White then that would be frightening for the league.

this bad!
