I am buying a 60 inch tv and need to mount it on brick above a fireplace. This is not a thread anout why I shoudnt have a tv above fireplace, believe Me I don't want it either, but I do not have any other options in my living room it's theonly place to put it. We don't use the fireplace so I am not worried about the heat, and yes I know it's not the nicest looking thing to do. My question is what is a good mount to use for mounting to birck? Also should I mount to the mortar or into the brick? I have heard mixed reviews about this? Any advice would be appreciated thanks.
Having to look up, above your normal field of vision damages your eyes and eyesight in the long term, and leads to severe eye fatigue in the short term.
Unless you standup the entire time while your watching the television?
The tv is actually supposed slightly below your field of vision so that you glance down at it.
If the bricks are secure I would mount into the brick with good masonry anchors and a slim mount-try to keep the weight and as close to the wall as possible.
I knew a guy who did this once, and we would all stand up to watch the Giants games.

Anyway I don't recommend putting it over fireplace because it really won't be comfortable at all to watch TV but you won't die from it like this imbecile is hinting at.
I put a TV in a basement in brick wall and it was very very tough I'd hire someone.. I can put a TV on a wall with ease but going through brick isn't easy
I went out and got huge screws that were about 12 inches and drilling was tough and the screw didn't really screw in kinda just pushed in and it sat in there.. It didn't feel right but once we put the TV on the Mount I realized it wasn't going anywhere those screws were in there a foot
But again be careful to not drill too big of a hole because then the screw will be loose and wobble in the brick and it won't sit right

Well I'm going on 5 years with my TV mounted on my fire place so I'm not so sure I agree with this. It's called laying down on the couch.

similar story- went straight into the brick, popped in some anchors and screwed the mount in. 4+ years, no issues, just delightful.
