Regardless of whether or not there's any truth to it, he fits the profile of who the Giants target when they go big-ticket: still young (doesn't turn 25 until August) and won't command outrageous money, but most importantly, he comes from the Packers system so the transition would be a smooth one.
On the other hand, I agree with BB1092 in that I would prefer the Giants bring in a taller receiver (ideally via a 2nd round pick) to complement OBJ and Cruz. But between Cobb, OBJ, and Cruz the Giants would have exactly what Eli likes in his receivers (other than height): guys who run good routes and are where they are supposed to be when the ball arrives.
Will not leave GB unless the offer is outrageous and Rogers would not be very happy about him leaving.
Right and talking free agency now is even more pointless than talking draft because most of the good players will be re-signed and the great ones (suh) can be hit with the tag even if they don't want to re-sign
But they should go after a tall physical WR for the outside like D. Thomas, Britt, or Crabtree
We have a tall, athletic receiver who is glued to the bench while jerkoffs like randle are parker are out there making a mockery of our offense week after week.
Demaryius isn't going anywhere, and will command a $100m contract. I'd be surprised if the Giants sign a big ticket FA wr, I think they are more likely to look to the draft and/or a low cost wr. I think Cobb is more likely to change teams as GB may not want to go longterm on two wrs, and have davante Adams waiting. Jordy signed at a discount though, and I can see Cobb signing for something reasonable, like Cruz's contract. If the cost is right I think they will keep that together. Can see them taking a shot on a someone like Britt (not that I would), but someone like Nicks on a prove it deal, not sure who's else is available.

Agreed. Also don't want Britt or Crabtree. In any event, the problem is less at WR than it is in the trenches, on both sides of the ball. After that, we need cover LBs and safeties, especially if Rolle leaves.
Even without Cruz, we still have Beckham, Randle, Parker, Harris, and hopefully Washington. I don't get why he isn't seeing more playing time, but the same of course can be said about Moore and Bromley.
I don't think the coaching staff is determined to not give Washington
Playing time. I wanted to see him over Preston Parker when Cruz first went down. But he is a undrafted rookie from a d2 school nobody has heard of. The giants often groom high round rookies playing behind veterans. I would like to see him out there, but I think he'll be given a serious chance next year if he earns it. Don't think they are intentionally going to bury him on the depth chart, if he's an internal solution next year they won't go and drop a big contract on a FA.

I want to see more of Washington too, but I think Parker brings a lot to the team at a very small price and would like to see him back in camp next year. Randle...might find himself buried on the depth chart next year.
I don't think the coaches are not determined to sit Washington, but we all know Coughlin requires his players to prove it in practice and grasp the playbook. All indications are Washington is not there yet.
a big receiver. Crabtree played like a smurf last night against Seattle, against the same defense that Beckham forced double coverage. And the Niners have a solid running game. Cobb is great. Beckham will be better. Victor feels good. The Giants need so much help elsewhere. But inside guys make the world go round.
On a single FA this offseason. You can say no to Suh, Cobb, Thomas and others. Just not the smart money for this team. Potential FA WR targets for the Giants are more likely to be Torrey Smith from Baltimore, Shorts from Jax, or Eddie Royal from SD.
absolutely 'break the bank' on an o-lineman. if we dont at least have interest in o.franklin we're insane
OL worthy of breaking the bank don't off shake free. Franklin is an intriguing prospect though as a guy who is playing Guard, but can play OT. I wouldn't overpay though. The Giants are primarily looking for a Guard and you don't need to overpay to find a good one.
5 Big All Pro Lineman - 3 All Pro WRs - 2 All Pro RBs - 4 All Pro Defensive Lineman - 3 All Pro LBs and 4 All Pro DBs are being targeted by the Giants this off season -
Too bad about the injuries. The idea was to allow for OL and pass ruching true DL in the draft.
And while I have ranted in favor of taking guards and tackles early for ten years, the beckum seems good (understatement?)....on the other hand we are not winning right now.
I think some creative thinking was lacking with regards 'drafting a pass rusher' with the remaining picks.
It would be a false dichotomy to suggest that we have to choose one place of blame for the lack of pass rush, say,:
a) draft problems
as opposed to
b) lack of up to date schemes or coaching on the front 4 or 5.
it could be both.
the benefit of a free agent WR might be that (similar to the logic on corners) it would allow the team to focus on guards then tackles on offense as well as amazing defensive line players ones that can play run and pass, in the draft.
but does that mean we sit on our laurels regarding defensive coaching? heck no. it might be both.
if the corners stay hurt we are fuched
My guy on the inside (one of the voices in my head)
Why is it hard to find good ones in FA? Are you saying that "good" O-linemen are not eligible to be free agents? So you think it is easier to find a "good" O-lineman by drafting a guy who has yet to prove himself in the NFL?
I am going the other way with this Mr Alligator. It is EASIER to find a good O-lineman in free agency as long as you are willing to pay. You already know what you are getting because the guy has proven himself in this league.
is more costly, but you know what you are getting. Left tackle/right tackle 1st round busts are legion. That being said, an OL pick early in round 2 (think Snee back in 2005) would be great
bending his knee ahead of schedule? Your source sounds like a hack. The doctors don't even know his recovery yet since he's not at the point in which his knee can be tested; that won't happen for another few months atleast.

Troll or not, Cobb would be a good pick up since they are determined not to give Washington playing time.

not off
Agreed. I wouldn't go near that guy.

if the corners stay hurt we are fuched
we need 2 great guards,
a pass rushing defensive end and one more DT,
a new D coach,
a new DL coach (sorry) and approach,
to get all our corners back,
a jennings clone running back (I had one targeted in the draft, late rounder, forget the name) so we can keep the system going in case of injury.
and that free agent wr, maybe a slot player

I guess I was trying to find a place to give the organization a pass, especially since I thought the big splash of free agent corners was good.
I think they had a similar plan...to draft OL in round 1...and were flummoxed when a player that was truly highly rated -becks- dropped.
so, you can see TC thinking "crap, a truly great player...on a team that will not function well...my days are numbered"
maybe this year, we can get a role playing slot wr free agent, the one huge buy at O guard or tackle...and OL and DL in the draft.
2. one specific role playing WR in free agency, a smart, shifty, possession type slot player?
3. I would argue that we go for a pass rusher in round 1...the place to look for a deadly pass rusher who is also a great run stopper.
4. additional OL, 2 safeties a linebacker in the draft and a role playing RB (pass receiving/pass protecting RB)
5. pray that last years free agent corners come back from IR in good shape
6. be very thankful and surprised if Cruz comes back at full speed
UFA dollars will be spent on the defense, possibly an impact OL.
