The Cowboys better win it all this year

Archer : 11/28/2014 10:09 am
The Cowboys better win it all this year.

The Dallas Cowboys estimated total CAP for contracted players in 2015 will be $137,701,855. This includes $7,952,849 in dead money.

The Cowboys will exceed the present CAP of $133,000,000 by $4,700,000. They will obtain some relief as the CAP is expected to increase close to $140,000,000.

However, that will leave them with very little money to sign (22-28) free agents. Included in the free agents are (8) starters with the prized players being Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray.

What further complicates the Cowboys’ CAP management is that Tony Romo’s CAP number is $27,773,000.

The 2015 free agents are;
Doug Free, Dez Bryant, Dekoda Watson, Jeremy Parnell, DeMarco Murray, Bruce Carter, Justin Durant, Anthony Spencer, George Selvie, Nick Hayden, Rolando McClain, Dwayne Harris, Chris Jones, Sterling Moore, Tyler Clutts, Cole Beasley, Darrion Weems, C.J.Spillman, Lance Dunbar, Jack Crawford, Ron Leary, Lawrence Cameron, Tony Hills, Donald Hawkins, Josh Brent, Keith Smith, Micah Pellerin, David Little.

Since the Cowboys will have a difficult time in signing their players, I would like the Giants to pursue;
Bryant, Murray, Crawford, McClain, Carter, and Free.

Looked terrible and in great pain in the 2nd half yesterday. No zip on his passes at all.

In some ways, we should want the Cowboys to win it all this year, that way so many of their impending FAs will be looking to cash in on the big pay day, further exacerbating their CAP problems.

Good post. Romo's back will sink them IMO. His throws as others have noted, lack zip, especially anything over twenty yards. I wonder if he's being shot up before every game. I also agree with whoever said they can't beat the Seahawks (even though they beat them earlier this year in Seattle), the Packers, or the Eagles in a playoff game.

Maybe even 2 guards if the draft doesn't look too good there.

They keep delaying the inevitable. They've extended and restructured about as much as they can. The bill will come due soon, arguably in the offseason.

Also, I don't think they keep Murray...if they are smart. He is a good running back, but it's more important to keep Dez and replace Murray with a cheaper option.
They're not winning a SB with that defense.

That first requires Minnesota to cut him. Then the Cowboys coming up with more money than it would have taken to sign Murray. I'm sure Jerry has hopes but that would take a lot of Cap space.

Peterson's salary with Minnesota is over $12 next year, not counting prorated signing bonus. Even with a tarnished reputation he still would command an average over $10 million plus signing bonus. Maybe 5 years $50 million plus $20 in bonus? Pure guessing. That is a cap of $14 per year, averaged.

I know both sides would want to do it but the cost is too much for Jerry at the end of the day.
Why is BBI suddenly in love with the Cowboys?
oipolloi : 11/28/2014 12:48 pm : link
They are not winning anything this year, even if Romo is healthy.

But the cowboys are playing "Coughlin football" with a dominant OL and running game, so suddenly they are embraced?

Three flawed passers have excelled in that offense. Paying a 100 million dollar QB has become a beginning of the end for many teams.
Cap Hell
GmanND : 11/28/2014 2:06 pm : link
People act like if a team is in "cap hell" they can only roster 48 players. The Cowboys have a shitty defense because they can't manage the cap. And thank god for that.

They let go of Ware and Hatcher, their most productive D players last year and replaced them with players coming off injury or street free agents to get under the cap.

They signed Melton to a very first year friendly deal (2.3 million) coming off injury but his cap goes to 9.2 million next year. They may not be able to keep him. They'll have to make hard decisions on Carter and McClain (and trust Lee can finish a year).

They are in "cap hell" in that they have very little talent on D and can't keep any of it that's any good because they'll get contacts the Cowboys can't match. They'll also have to let Murray go. I'm very curious to see how good their line looks without him.

I think the let Murray walk and look to sign Dez. Murray will demand a lot of money, and considering the cap situation, its easier to replace a RB (possibly not as good but still effective) than a good WR.

Right. And they'll cut/restructure their way to a ton of cap room. Might as well push the day of reckoning to the post-viable Romo era (3 years out?) and start a rebuild then.

I've been kinda high on Dallas but this is a stretch. The Dallas d sucks. It sucked all year but when you control the clock for 36 minutes a game and play with a lead the defense can be hidden a bit.

Dallas is good not great. And now they are fading as usual.

How the fuck we couldn't beat this team last week makes me sick.

And no, it wouldn't be good for Dallas to win it all this year just so their players ask for more money. For the love of Christ man, think! Dallas can never ever ever win another Super Bowl. I swear some of you are fucking dense.

Fucking bingo. We don't see nearly enough of this kind of Dallas hate around here. If you don't hate Dallas and don't obsess over their demise you weren't alive in the late 70s or early 90s and you live in a bubble. Fuck that shit franchise and even shittier fan base. Cowboys are the applebees of the nfl. They represent everything that is wrong with pro sports. Fuck em. Five Super Bowls. Five. That shit all over NYG in the 70s so badly it wasn't even funny. They own a winning record against NYG all time. No other NFC east team does. Yet all I hear on here is how hated Philly and Washington are. Please. It's not even close. If Dallas ever won another bowl it would be absolutely disgusting. Horrible. No. Just no. At all costs no.

If Philly won a bowl the fan base still can't really say shit to the NYG fan base. Dallas fans would have a field day. I shudder to think it.

The year before they got penalized by the NFL, they dropped a bunch of contracts. (Yep they lost some cap space too for doing it). Got out for a couple years by cutting players, like Ware and Hatcher. Of course they are right back into it by spending so much on Romo.

Dallas played a Sunday night game and didn't get into Dallas till early Monday morning.

This was good for Philadelphia and their uptempo game. It was a "perfect storm" in Philadelphia's favor.

The next time these two teams play Dallas will have 10 days to rest and prepare, instead of 3.

Dallas(road warriors) will win the next meeting and the perception of the two teams will change, yet again.

Philly will bring the heat on Romo again and a few extra days of rest won't make any difference. He'll be playing outside in the cold with his bad back. I don't think the outcome will be that different other then the Dallas D may not be so lucky to only give up field goals on many drives. That game could have been a lot worse.

Eat a few contracts, refi and lose you will see cap hell comes and goes really fast. Dallas is in trouble but it's not dire straights if the refi and cut a few. The big hit is Romo

It's like the Giants. They were winning and offered 2nd/3rd contracts. With the new CBA though, their cap number is almost $70 million under for 2016 even if they resign Eli for $20 million per. When you part ways with aging vets, inexpensive draft picks (many of which aren't that good) you get out of draft hell really fast.
