Jacquan Williams

mofti : 12/3/2014 3:44 pm
I don't think there has been enough talk about whether we are going to bring this guy back or not. Do we bring him back and hope he recovers from his disappointing season, or do we let him walk? We know he has the talent to play the position, but it seems he makes too many fundamental mistakes as a full time starter, for example, taking a lot of bad angles resulting in missed tackle tackles.

IMO, we should bring him back on a prove it 1 or 2 year deal and see how he plays with another defensive coaching staff if Fewell gets the ax.

Thought?
These guys collectively make so many stupid mistakes
jcn56 : 12/3/2014 3:48 pm : link
you kinda want to see if that somehow improves with a different coaching staff, although at the same time there's no guarantee and you could just be prolonging your misery.

Williams seems to be a bit undersized for LB to me.
Another guy for the dumpster

a special teamer at best
He will likely get an offer for a one year deal...
Damon : 12/3/2014 3:49 pm : link
When healthy and under Beason's tutelage, his arrow seemed to be pointing up. He's got the speed to cover and that's his specialty... But hasn't blossomed into a 3 down backer.

I hope he is ok
Concussion seemed serious from comments I read from reporters and TC (few weeks ago)
I can't think
Stufftherun : 12/3/2014 3:50 pm : link
of many, if any, on this roster who was more disappointing than JDub. I really thought we would see him be the player we thought he could/should be but instead we'll be left with a visual of him trying to chase down the likes of Jason Witten.
If he'll come back cheap, he is at least good depth.
Curtis in VA : 12/3/2014 3:51 pm : link
Wouldnt want him starting though.
If he makes fundamental mistakes
Gman11 : 12/3/2014 3:51 pm : link
then what makes you think he has the talent to play the position? Isn't that contradictory?
Hes a decent backup
spike : 12/3/2014 3:51 pm : link
but cannot be a starter on a contending team
I disagree with you guys, I think he has done a good job
Clearwater Joe : 12/3/2014 3:58 pm : link
at limiting opposing TE's this year. In the 1st Dallas game I think he held Whitten to 3 catches for 40 yards. I thought he played well vs SF as well. He is not star material but he is better than JAG.
Never really kicked on from the bit of promise he showed as a rookie
bigbluescot : 12/3/2014 4:01 pm : link
but he wouldn't be the worst backup if he's cheap enough.

Exactly, So very true

can't see him returning after his performance.
He doesn't play lean
RetroJint : 12/3/2014 5:14 pm : link
& fast. He plays skinny. Like Olive Oyl. He leads the team in worthless tackles, after-the-first-down-is-made-type tackles. He can't cover TEs, which is what Ramadan or whatever his name is recently wrote on NJ .com. I do fault Fewell, especially against the Eagles & Redskins, to expect 57 to handle those assignments. And when he pressures an RB can stone him. So I expect Reese to give him a new 3-year deal.

Of course there will be the element that claims that another team could get more from him. To which we say, let's see that happen. It never does. None of these guys ever do anything when they get cut loose from here.
Meant

Cowboys above. Witten, Escobar & the other guy kill him.

LB I want coming back next year for certain is Kennard.
another guy on a very long list that this regime has
dangerousrappingfrog : 12/3/2014 5:20 pm : link
failed to coach up. We can't seem to get anybody to develop anymore.

I am going to go bang my head into a wall.

But think Herzlick has looked much better and one of the reason the D has improved since he took over.,,Jaquan is athletic but soft against the run...meanwhile I might be one of the few that sees this...but think he is stout...and have seen him make a number of plays were he is really bringing the wood...not sure he is the long term answer either but to my eyes he looks much better the Jaquan
Williams stinks
Marty866b : 12/3/2014 5:37 pm : link
He made the big play three years ago. He's stunk since. Let him go please!

Double LOL? It is hard to square with my mental image, but I agree. Herzlick has made some impressive plays in against the run game lately. Maybe he is finally learning the system despite the coaching? He is getting to his spot in run fits and really laying the wood when he gets there. AND he wraps up!!! On the NY Giants? Unheard of....
The Giants have no linebackers.......
Doomster : 12/3/2014 8:38 pm : link
Even Beason.....if he can't stay healthy for a whole season, what good is he?

Kennard is kind of like the JW of 2011......Will he ever live up to the praise he has received from practice? Remains to be seen....

JW never achieved the promise of 2011......terrible against the run...bad tackler....and all this talk of coverage skills is a Giant myth.....
Herz?
Doomster : 12/3/2014 8:40 pm : link
Are you kidding?....still slow, still plugging the wrong hole, sucks in coverage...
Backup
Bleedin Blue : 12/3/2014 8:42 pm : link
and special teams that's all we can expect from here on out. He has not proved he can be a starter.
Agree with what most of you said...
EricJ (formerly Tyleraimee) : 12/3/2014 8:58 pm : link
about Williams being nothing more than a backup and special teams player. He simply does not have the football IQ that is needed to play the position at a high level.
Williams
Rjanyg : 12/3/2014 9:04 pm : link
Doesnt make enough tackles near or at the line of scrimmage. They always seem to be 5 to 10 yards down field. Doesn't make enough impact plays.

I agree that Herzlich has made some "football" plays since he has been assigned strong side duty. its the best he's looked since he got here.

Williams is a grossly undersized NFL linebacker. He is not, nor will he ever be, an NFL caliber linebacker.

The Giants have maybe one or two linebackers that could make it onto another roster. Other than that they are a bunch of minor league ball players.
I think the OP had a typo

Williams
NYG4246 : 12/4/2014 10:16 am : link
is a pretty good cover LB, he seems to take poor angles numerous times a game....id take him back if the price was right, hes the fastest LB we have....better then paysinger and herzlich by a mile. who knows if Beason returns to form or can stay healthy, or if he comes back. I like him as a 4th or 5th LB, or Nickel LB....who knows, fewell is gonna get bounced so D might start over. Bottom line, id take him back at the price of a role player.
I think Herzlich has a nose for the ball
Randy in CT : 12/4/2014 10:21 am : link
and brings the wood--mostly in the running game. But his game isn't complete--he doesn't have much cover-ability and seems to be missing some athleticism.
