Head Coach Tom Coughlin
December 5, 2014
Q: Did you see enough from Rashad Jennings today?
A: I don’t know. We are going to have to watch that. I think we listed him as questionable, but he’s got a couple of days. We will see.
Q: What does he need to prove?
A: He’s got to be able to play in the game. Some of where he is at so that we can count on the return. The big thing is, when you issue a suit to someone, you would like to think they can play and finish the game. What will really hurt you is if -- because you’ve only got 46 -- you dress a guy, put him in, and he’s out. Every guy that goes through this, not just Rashad Jennings, every guy has got to pass the test of whether we think he can. We are not always right, but to think whether or not he can play the majority of the game, put it that way.
Q: What is the difference between him and an offensive lineman like Justin Pugh. Justin Pugh is going to play 65 snaps, Rashad Jennings might only play 25, or 20. It is a lot less snaps.
A: There are also people jumping on his back as he’s got the ball in his hand, he’s got an ankle.
Q: Did you like what you saw with his ability to cut today?
A: Yeah, he went through his normal routine.
Q: With Jacquian Williams, earlier this week, you had hope that he might be able to play. Is there any thought that you might have to shut him down?
A: For this week, he is out. We will see next week.
Q: Is he doing any better? Yesterday you said he had some symptoms.
A: Evidently he still has, I didn’t see him out here.
Q: It could be the protocol of it now? Don’t you have to wait a certain number of days before they can come back?
A: He is a long way into that; he is in his third week.
Q: If he has a setback, it doesn’t start over?
A: Definitely, you have to back….The symptoms have to be cleared up before there is any opportunity there. Yeah, if he is in a position where he feels good and all of a sudden he doesn’t feel good, then obviously the clock begins there.
RE: Orleans Darkwa coming in on third down. Is that a possibility?
A: Yeah, he can help us. He has had a full week of practice.
Q: Devon Kennard had a couple splash plays with sacks the other day. How is he progressing in your mind?
A: He is a good young player, he likes to play, and he has made good progress.
Q: How much does he provide a different option or skill set than some of the other guys as far as pass rushing?
A: The idea that you can bring him where he plays first and second down, he’s on the edge where he can turn the play back inside, and he does give the option to come off the corner.
Q: With a guy like Rueben Randle, what did you see from him this week? Last week is something you didn’t like.
A: He practiced every day last week; he practiced every day this week.
RE: I am talking about what you see from him attitude-wise.
A: His attitude is fine.
Q: Is it disappointing that you had to take those actions with him last week since he is expected to be a leader in that room?
A: I don’t have time to talk about that. Last week is last week. That is between Rueben Randle and his teammates and me.
Q: Is Cullen Jenkins healthy enough now?
A: We hope so, he’s practiced all week, and he has been limited, he has taken all of his reps. Hopefully he can be there.
Q: He said last week, Thursday was the day that he tried to push it hard and was going to do it again this week. It didn’t respond well last Thursday, was there anything this week?
A: He felt good this morning.
Q: Devon Kennard had a couple splash plays with sacks the other day. How is he progressing in your mind?
A: He is a good young player, he likes to play, and he has made good progress

That seemed pretty straight to me.
How about talk about the progress he's made specifically and not say, "he likes to play".
What has he done a good job at? Where does he need improvement? That sort of thing you would like to hear from the head coach.
These younger beat guys need to learn that if you try to push buttons you'll get nothing from him.
