I have been a NY Giants fan since the Ray Perkins era and OBJ is the first player I have-to-watch since LT played for the Giants.
Back when LT was playing, I'd be upset to see the defense walked off the field because I couldn't watch him for awhile. I feel the same way with OBJ. Ever snap the offense takes, I have to check out where he is lined up, who he is matched up against, even if its 2nd and 1 and I know that they are going to run the ball. This guy makes it fun again. This guy gives me a reason to believe in the future (the next year or two at least).
I'm glad he is a NY Giant!
I'm hoping we find a guy in round one who has a similar impact on our defense next season.
I don't think anyone quite got what I was saying, and just after the loss of Cruz that is understandable.
But what has happened with Odell since that point is exactly what I was kind of hoping for.
Here was one of my thoughts in that thread and I can't say that I have been disappointed. He is an exciting player to watch for sure.
"Sometimes things just happen. My point is for the Giant fan although not the way you want it to happen this gives us something to watch and look forward to as it unfolds. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a great NY Giant career for the WR and we get the fun of being part of that as a fan. I am looking forward to see how this young man responds to the challenge and the stage he is now playing on.
Just one thing positive to look forward to"
Maybe now a few of you can better understand what I meant, or not (grin)

And I gotta tell you, getting to watch OBJ from the all-11 view is something else. The guy is so fluid and smooth, it seemed like everyone was moving 1/2 his speed.
Quickly ascending to NFL superstardom is New York Giants rookie receiver Odell Beckham Jr., whose how-did-he-do-that grabs are ideal highlight-reel fodder.
His most memorable catch was straight out of "The Matrix," a one-handed touchdown grab against Dallas on Nov. 23, when he leaped backward, bowed his body, and somehow latched onto the ball. Instantly, this much was clear: Nobody bends it like Beckham Jr.
Sunday, he was on display in a 36-7 blowout of Tennessee. In the first half alone, Beckham had nine catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. He finished with 11 catches for 130, his sixth consecutive game with at least 90 yards receiving. He's something for the Giants to be happy about in an otherwise throwaway season.

meanwhile, if he stays healthy, stays on the giants and doesn't folllow the JPP cheeseburger-sanity offseason workout regimen, the sky is the limit.

Not saying that he doesn't look like he has all the physical talent to make it...but I was not pleased with the immaturity he showed in that penalty he got, not to mention his TD dance sucks. Again...I hope to see it frequently, but really. C'mon Man!

When Eli was drafted, it was "But, but, but... Robert Gallery."
I have to come clean, I was a Gallery guy. I felt Kerry just needed a little more time in the pocket. My bad!!!!

You are really a great judge of whom the real Giants fans are! I am as real as they get and if I really wanted your opinion I would give it to you!

But if you really followed the team, you'd know that it's not penalties and immaturity that jeopardize OBJ's career. It's the fact that he plays WR for the Giants that does.
Our recent history with young, promising WR's should scare the shit out of every fiber in OBJ's body.
Guards are a dime a dozen.
OBJ's come alone once a decade.
I would like to start a poll who would STILL pick Martin over OBJ. Gotta still be a few dummies out there.
IOW, you can do more damage with a stud WR vs an average WR as opposed to a stud guard vs an average guard.

I actually didn't say anything about his career being in jeopardy; I just didn't like his dumb penalty. The Giants seem to have plenty of players doing that without Beckham adding himself to the mix. I also worry that he is going to believe all the hype he is reading about himself and lose focus on his real purpose...being a catalyst for bringing Eli his third Championship.
However, LT was, in my 45 years of watching football, the best player I've ever seen. He could destroy entire offenses; teams had to know where he was at every moment not only because he could make a play, but because he could cause serious injury.
Team's did not only game play for LT, they were deathly afraid of him.
In spite of the fact that today's game is made for OBJ, he will still have a very difficult time. Keep his athletic ability in top form through hits and injuries will be unbelievably hard. To be comparable to LT he will have to put together at least ten years going foward (injuries prevent this one from being dominant). And that will include at least one QB change. If it requires more than one - which is very likely - his oppotunities will suffer.
I think the edge goes to watching Beckham though.
This. Its amazing how many Giants fans are s quick to forget just how great Shockey was. Too bad the injuries did him in. I remember the time when the only reason Jason Witten went to the Pro Bowl was because he was the injury replacement for Shockey. Beckham is the first Giants player since Shockey to be a guy you had to see. (Actually, I take that back, Nicks and Cruz were those kind of guys too, at times).
