WR Odell Beckham Jr.
December 11, 2014
Q: Is this a game you are looking forward to since you did not get to play against Washington the first time?
A: I definitely would say so. Really, any game you get a chance to play in, I am looking forward to, but this one I watched at home and I was sitting there watching how well we played and I am hoping we can duplicate that this game.
Q: Do you think with a lot of the [opposing defenses’] attention being paid to you it will open up things for your other receivers and make the offense more diversified?
A: Absolutely. Teams do things where they start to roll coverages and stuff like that. It makes you have to change up the game plan. Our other guys such as Rueben [Randle] and Preston [Parker] can win. It is just a matter of when we all start going.
Q: What does that say to you that you are already a game changer in this league?
A: It is definitely an accomplishment. It takes a lot to get something like that, but I think it is going to open up a lot more opportunities for Rueben and Preston.
Q: How close do you feel that you are to bringing back a punt?
A: I am trying. I have missed a couple. Definitely a lot of them were on me. I have to make the right cuts and get more vertical.
Q: Can you feel when it is coming close?
A: Yeah, you can start to feel it. You return a couple and get some yards and feel like one of them may be coming. Just keep pushing forward.
Q: Are you at that point now?
A: I hope so.
Q: Your jersey from ‘The Catch’ is now in the Hall of Fame… Did they not ask for your gloves or did you tell them you wanted to keep them?
A: They didn’t ask for the gloves. I guess they just got the jersey. What an honor for it to be in there. Definitely something to be proud of, but it is just the beginning for me.
Q: You had new gloves the next week right?
A: Yes.
Q: What did you do with the gloves from the catch?
A: They are at home.
Q: Do you throw them in a pile or keep them?
A: I keep them. I will give them to my mom or my dad.
Q: We saw you do a rainbow kick with a football and you are a big soccer fan… What kind of effect do you think playing soccer had on your football career?
A: I think it just helps you with your footwork and conditioning. Soccer is a sport where you are running back and forth every part of the game. As far as your footwork goes, it allows you to have better feet. It is just something that I have been doing for a long time now. Soccer was my first sport.
Q: A lot has come your way in a short period of time… As a rookie, is there a point where you have to step back and say, ‘I have to keep it real. I have to stay within myself and work as hard as I have been up to this point?’
A: Absolutely. The one thing that I have always known is to never get complacent because there is always someone coming to take your spot. Just keep pushing forward and get better each and every day.
A star among stars in NFL, quite possibly but a diva?
A: Awesome.
2014 was the year of the WR.
