NFT: Islanders - Blackhawks 7pm Game Thread

pganut : 12/13/2014 1:27 pm
Hey fellas. I wanted to take a break from some of the heavy stuff and make sure I got this started. I'll be flying back tonight during most of the game but hope to be home to catch the (happy?) ending.

I haven't looked through a lot of what's been posted recently, but I think it's unanimous that we're all excited that Strait is sitting with Reinhart taking his place. While Hamonic and Boychuk are skating in practice, Hammer is a likely Monday, if not Friday return, and Boychuk looks to be on track for next week as well. Zeeker also skating which is a good sign. Bailey returns to the lineup and Jaro Halak gets the start tonight facing Scott Darling. Towes, despite a scary hit into the boards versus the B's is taking his morning skate and looks to be a go for tonight. For those losing sleep over it, Conacher cleared waivers and reports to BPT.

My guess as to D-pairings: Leddy-Reinhart, Hickey-Viz and CDH-Donovan

Forwards likely to be:
Kulemin-Tavares-Okposo
Grabovski–Nielsen-Bailey
Grabner–Nelson-Lee
Martin–Strome–Clutterbuck

On the kid front, Josh Ho-Sang notched another 3 assists in last night's game against Oshawa. Oshawa was without leading scorer Michael Dal Colle, who is at the Team Canada WJC training camp.

Let's Go Islanders!

This one's for you, dad

Time stand still --
I'm not looking back --
But I want to look around me now
See more of the people
And the places that surround me now

Freeze this moment
A little bit longer
Make each sensation
A little bit stronger
Experience slips away...
Welcome back pg

even if it's just a drive by appearance

First conacher put on waivers, now strait out of the line up. Christmas comes early for Islander fans.

let's get this back on track. Keep peppering their goalie with shots. Crash the net. Create chances.

Good job

a much needed win
Dave M : 12/13/2014 9:29 pm : link
They finished strong. That was important too.
I blame
Fish : 12/13/2014 9:30 pm : link
Our losses only on Strait. Lol.

Reinhart >Strait
Reinhart
feelflows : 12/13/2014 9:34 pm : link
Won't be the Reinhart we will love to watch for another 2 years. Big young dmen take a couple of years to get up to speed. See: Hedman, Victor.
not for nothing Fish
Dave M : 12/13/2014 9:35 pm : link
But that is right. I know it wasn't the only reason but it is a big part and Reinhart just had his best game in NHL.
Alot of guys
KWhite2250 : 12/13/2014 9:37 pm : link
Were strong tonight. Reinhart, viz, martin, clutterbuck, strome, grabovski, and bailey(in 1st 2 periods)
Great game to watch
NYMase : 12/13/2014 9:42 pm : link
and a great win to get

Refreshing
Fish : 12/13/2014 9:47 pm : link
To read that boys. Happy Griff had his best game.

Pens just tied it in last sec.
Best part about this is
KWhite2250 : 12/13/2014 9:49 pm : link
With 3 guys coming back and Donovan looking like the real depth Dman and we will need the roster spots, strait has to be fucking waived!!! No way do we try to keep him any longer.
another silent game by Kulemin
Dave M : 12/13/2014 9:50 pm : link
I know I felt better watching with no Strait in there. Reinhart could've been a -3 and I wouldn't have cared.
Kule
Fish : 12/13/2014 9:57 pm : link
Is a big boy though and plays a sound game as a defensive forward.
Was at the bar watching.
BlueHurricane : 12/13/2014 10:00 pm : link
Hell of a game and nice end to the losing streak. Halak is such a treat as a #1.
good game at Lehigh valley

Wooo
pganut : 12/13/2014 10:08 pm : link
Well, the downer is I missed it since my flight landed late. But so happy we got off the schneid against the NHL's top team. From your comments, seems like we were resilient and played a complete game. Good to be home and proud of the boys. Looking forward to catching the replay of this one.

1st unfortunately I know how you are feeling, lost my Dad 13 yrs ago at the age of 61. Praying for you and your family. Glad they won one for him last night.

As for the game it was the closest I was to the Coliseum as my wife and I were at a Christmas Party in Massapequa Park. How nice to see Strait jacket not in the lineup and we tho back to giving up less than 3 goals again. They looked like the team from 3 weeks ago instead of the team from a week ago. Saw this and thought it summed up the game very well for us .

New York turned the tide in the second period and had a 17-7 shots advantage.
"Scotty kept us in," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "We didn't make them do things they didn't want to do.
"That's a good team. They definitely outworked us."

We go back to the way we played 3 weeks ago and never play Strait again and this is going to be a lot of fun.
this team

Will be a lot different when boychuck and hamonic return. Cizikias as well.
Missed the game
timintey : 12/14/2014 10:26 am : link
as I was witnessing my alma mater get throttled in hoops at Davidson. Glad to see we put forth a solid effort. Hopefully the funk is behind us and we get the rest of the guys back soon.

Condolences again pga. I know how difficult these last few days have been for you and your family. Continued prayers to you...
Thanks 12 and tim

Rough week, but seeing the posts from all of you guys these past few days have helped lift my spirits. I'm looking forward to some normalcy returning this week ahead. I appreciate y'all having my back.

Looks like the theme to set the tone last night was "swagger". Gillies spoke to the team before the game:
Quote:
"They have to believe in the fact they are, ability-wise, every bit as good as these (top) teams."

And Cappy afterward:
Quote:
"I told our guys, 'We've got to get that attitude, we've got to get the swagger back in our game.' And I think we did that," Capuano said. "If we do the right things, we can compete with anybody."

I think you're seeing the normal maturation steps and growing pains associated with becoming a very good team. For so long, this is a team that's risen when odds are stacked against them, fighting back from deficits. Playing with (what should be commanding) leads is something new. The way these guys score, I'm confident that they'll learn how to close those leads out, now that we have a stud goalie, and especially when the D returns to full strength.
I did see someplace
Fish : 12/14/2014 11:42 am : link
I think Twitter that Strait being out was a personal issue and not the healthy scratch we thought.
Yeah the issue is
The 12th Man : 12/14/2014 1:58 pm : link
He personally sucks!
