NFT: Soundbars

jgambrosio : 12/14/2014 10:36 am
I've got an older Sony home theater system (the ones that came free with a TV purchase) that plays regular DVDs, has a bulky sub, and 5 speakers (the back two were at least wireless from the front set).

Looking to replace it now that I got an xbox one as a combo birthday/early christmas present but not looking to break the bank. I live in a townhouse so no need for an extravagant receiver other peripherals.

Soundbars seem to have created an economical alternative, but when they range from an on-sale sub $200 to $600, I'm not really sure what is good vs. bad. Anyone invested in a soundbar recently that has any suggestions?

Also, anyone looking to buy an old school xbox or ps3? haha

Thanks in advance
Oh and I have a panasonic plasma

if anyone wants to know. Not the best sound quality from a TV, but given I got it last year before they stopped making the Plasmas, and at the price compared to the LCD, I'm ok with it.

Is the best at 600

Vizio makes a good soundbar with an hdmi connection and Bluetooth so you can play music from your phone or tablet

Sony makes a good one that comes with a sub

I returned my soundbar and used an old receiver I had and bought a very good center channel speaker and used a sub I had it was much better than any soundbar so I'd recommend that or the Vizio if I were you
My research points to Vizio or sonos

Gizmodo has a ton of breakdowns on these two - just do a google search with gizmodo in there

With my ZVOX as an upgrade to the TV speakers. Not going to blow anyone away, but very decent sound at an affordable price. Depends on how much you value premium sound I suppose.
