Kerry Wynn

Headhunter : 12/15/2014 7:55 am
is very impressive. He has skills. He is 23 and I feel will get better. The need for a pass rushing DE has become less of an issue. JPP, Ayers, Moore, Wynn. I'm hoping they go all out to trade up for Williams to go with Hankins
He has talent

Saw him play stout vs the run on a few plays too
The guy has an NFL body

And some good athleticism. Could be a real steal.

Looked very good to me. Big body good size and quick down the line. Has sme ability and is a nice cheap backup

one of the scouts mentioned Wynn as one of those guys that may not be drafted (he wasn't) but he was a man among boys out there on the college football field.

Another nice find by the scouts!
What I noticed was his foot speed. He may be the fastest DL we have.

At his pro day he ran a 4.7
BillT : 12/15/2014 8:35 am : link
That's not bad if it's a reliable number.
Wynn impressed me during the pre-season.
Watson : 12/15/2014 8:55 am : link
Was glad that the Giants protected him by using a spot on the 53 man roster. Appears to be able to play both run and pass well. Certainly, appears to have the ability to be at least a solid back-up/rotational player. Good fine by the scouts.
I really liked him preseason
Johnny5 : 12/15/2014 9:02 am : link
It was a pleasant surprise to see him in on the action yesterday.
The downside of his having spent 2014 on the 53-man roster...
Big Blue Blogger : 12/15/2014 9:09 am : link
...is that the Giants only control him through 2017. On the other hand, that gives them three more years than if another team had claimed him off waivers or signed him off the practice squad.

He looks like he belongs: quality depth, perhaps - maybe more, maybe less. Adewale Ojomo made a similar impression, and wound up wandering through the CFL after auditions with five or six NFL teams.

performance should be a reminder to those who minimize playing well against 3s & 4s. It does mean something. And that is how an un-drafted guy moves up the charts.
Both Moore and Wynn looked like upgrades vs Kiwanuka to me
cosmicj : 12/15/2014 9:27 am : link
I suppose I am missing some fine points that separated the vet from them.

Vs the titans and skins but they have played well. Better than kiwi by far. Who knows if either of these guys were playing vs Dallas, maybe they get to romo and we win.

While it is easy to dismiss performances against 3's & 4's just because Wynn looks the part means everyone who excels in that role will. Keep in mind that the teams he has done well against during the regular season have weaker OL when the Giants are not in competition for a playoff spot so I would like to see how he does against better competition. The concern on Finding Giants was whether he can bulk up to where he needs to be in the NFL without losing his athleticism. I do like that he appears to be a hard worker and does not make as many boneheaded plays as Moore
There was a play early in the game that really impressed me...
kmed : 12/15/2014 9:33 am : link
On what looked to be another blown coverage, McCoy dumped the ball off to one of the backs who had a ton of open space. Wynn tracked him down from behind 20 yards down the field.
Wynn also lined up
Rjanyg : 12/15/2014 9:46 am : link
inside on 3rd and long. His is a pretty big dude.
He looks like an NFL caliber player at a premium position
BeerFridge : 12/15/2014 9:49 am : link
Which makes him a very nice find.
We have been getting sacks since Moore and Wynn

Bromley hasn't played enough to evaluate him. He was drafted in round 3 for a reason(s), hopefully, well-founded reason(s) which will be borne out! OL is my major concern, the team needs a stud OT and OG to open running lanes and guard Eli's back. We also need to think about Safety since it appears Rolle is gone next year. Pending status updates on Amukamara, we might need to address the CB position. All conjecture at this point. I sure wish they would get Herman in to a game or 2, I am thinking he could be an answer at the OG position. JMHO.

Kiwi is going to get cut. I believe his cap figure for next year is in the $9M range. They will need that money to re-sign JPP.
Wynn's hustle
VanPelt/Manning#10 : 12/15/2014 12:47 pm : link
and nose for the play is what really impressed me. Sure, maybe he's fighting for a spot and more playing time in the future, but that's a spark we haven't seen from every member of this defense. And did anyone mention how reliable he was staying home? Really liked what I saw in his extended playing time yesterday.
Is this the same
AnishPatel : 12/15/2014 12:59 pm : link
Wynn that was talked about in the NFL network, Giants draft series? One of the scouts talked about him and scouted him. Is this the same kid?

Yup coach

He was said to play like a man among boys on that show.
He has raw talent and was buried behind Kiwi.
bromley
hankb1126 : 12/15/2014 3:11 pm : link
bromley is a dt not a de so why is he in this comment at all

bromley is behind jenkins, hankins kuhn and patterson so when coaches feel he knows how to play the position and better than the men in front of him he will get a chance

giants also seem to have a history of not playing dt 's there rookie season see joseph, hankins , and austin all were second round picks and did not get any playing time there rookie year

And from what I read, TC had a "discussion" with Fewell after the Dallas game, mainly about the lack of pass rush.

Not taking anything away from Moore or Wynn, I think they both seem to have found a place within the Giants future, but I dont think he pass rush simply improved because of Kiwi's absence and their presence. Having said that, Kiwi's been a good soldier, but its time for the Giants to move on.
Another great pickup by JR
Rflairr : 12/15/2014 6:59 pm : link
That TC has kept on the bench most the season.

Disagree, don't think they treat the DT position any differently with regards to rookies. If they can play, they play. Cofield started 16 games as a 4th rd rookie. Now, I wouldn't say it's inaccurate to say the Giants seem to expect more out of their rookies than many other teams, but this whole thing about the Giants not playing rookies is really blown out of proportion.
