Week 15 PFF Snap Counts

pjcas18 : 12/15/2014 8:53 am
as usual I'm not endorsing (and I won't defend) PFF ratings (though occasionally I'll explain their rating process) I like seeing the snap counts.

Offense:

Defense:

I would love to see

what the Freeland got from the Redskins. Between penalties and OBJ burning him left and right, it was probably awful.
I don't understand how the run blocking is not negative.

Based on their review, it looks like Donnell missed a few blocks and Williams missed a few holes...
Breeland

was negative 3.5
A few ratings that jive with what I saw...

Kennard is a player and McClain is terrible. Finding a MLB that can play is imperative to this defense.
Stevie Brown is a good story

He's regaining his form and contributing again. Be glad to have him back next year as a backup safety or maybe even a starter with Taylor. We could do worse.

With so many other holes on the defense, they might have to stick with McClain/Beason next year and really hope for a miracle that Beason stays healthy for most of the year. I would love to see us get a OLB in the draft in the first round to help shore up the LB corps though.
I like Beason,
kmed : 12/15/2014 11:11 am : link
I just don't think we can count on him. McClain blows.
Mclain is a JAG
Simms11 : 12/15/2014 11:40 am : link
and nothing more. Nice depth on a team sorely lacking LBers. We need a dynamic LBERS to help next year.
Better than it has been

Giving younger guys a chance. Like to see Berle replace Demps and Bromley get a few more plays. How bad a doghouse is Paysinger in with Herzlich playing in front of him?
Seriously starting to question these
fbdad : 12/15/2014 12:17 pm : link
How does Herzlich have a negative pass coverage rating? I don't think he was targeted against once. Also, the only penalty I saw him involved with was when one was called against the Redskins for blocking him in the back
Stevie Brown as the #3 safety is ok
GIANTSr01 : 12/15/2014 12:21 pm : link
as a starter, I hope not.

kmed, they don't necessarily need a MLB. But they need a 2nd quality LB to pair with Kennard. McClain gets exposed far too often. And it's made worse by having Herzlich (or Williams) at the other OLB spot.

He had an illegal hands to the face early in the game (pretty blatant call too).
Jenkins, Patterson and Kuhn are likely being phased out...

...as they should be. Bromley is being brought along very carefully. Lots of snaps for the young DEs, which is good, though it's mostly a result of injuries.
The most interesting aspect of PFF's NYG grades this year...
Big Blue Blogger : 12/15/2014 1:16 pm : link
...might be the resurgence of Will Beatty. And it's not as though he's enjoyed much help on either shoulder.

I have no clue whether the grades are valid, but they do suggest that OLT is not an off-season priority. If true, that's a huge boost for the team's hopes of returning to contention in 2015. A new OLT would have soaked up serious resources, and Beatty's dead-money hit would have been onerous.
Is that a plus

Jenkins got quite a few snaps for someone just back from injury. He's also signed for next year and is likely the starter next to Hankins to open camp.

Glad Bromley is finally taking snaps from Kuhn, though I think Patterson needs to see fewer snaps too. Bromley's followed a similar progression this year to Hankins last season. Hopefully we see similar improvement next season.
I'd just like to point out that ...
BronxBob : 12/16/2014 2:57 pm : link
... while the D-line and defensive performance overall still sucks 99 percent of the time . . . within that landscape Kuhn outperforms Jenkins and -- as training camp suggested would be the case -- Wynn looks better than the new legend: Bromley.
