which is among the worst ever put out (no, I'm not joking), but she's actually a pretty intuitive writer in that she writes well for her own talents, meager though they are, but should never sing music written for people with better voices. She looks, and has looked, the part of what she sings about, it seems sincere and plausible, something you can't say for most of, say, Carrie Underwood's CV.

As for the looks, she certainly isn't ugly but she looks a lot prettier because she's worth nine figures, and because those nine figures can pay for some pretty amazing makeup artists.

between a singer, an entertainer and an entertainment professional.

No, she isn't a very good singer. She's a solid entertainer and a world class entertainment professional.

In today's world, the latter two are much more likely to lead to success than the former. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of better singers, but so what?

The sad irony is that with modern-level autotuning equipment, the good entertainer with decent tonal quality will outsell the excellent singer. That is not changing back.

Natalie Maines is the one who gave them the pop sound. Prior to that they were obscure and as much bluegrass as country.

No one really disputes that Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood and even Natalie Maines have better voices than Taylor Swift. The issue is whether she's a better entertainer, and while I'm not a fan she does write her own crap and has since she was an age where most kids struggle to get up on time for school.
