Powell: What Kerry Wynn did to impress TC; Film review

Defenderdawg : 12/16/2014 3:56 pm
"[Wynn] has taken full advantage of his opportunity to play," Coughlin said. "He has been solid in there. He has been a guy that has defended on the run, he has gotten some hits in there on the quarterback, he has been very close in the sack area and so Kerry has done a nice job"

And coughlin wants to talk about Wynn?

Listed at 6'5", 264 pounds, Wynn is on the lighter side for a defensive lineman,

264 pounds isn't especially light for a DE. 250 or less would be "light". It's like the guy after the draft making a big deal about how "big" Bromley was at 305 when Hankins is 325 and Kuhn 320 or so and Joseph was 320+ as well. Whatever.

Coughlin doesn't want to talk about anyone to the media. He's required to address the media. He was asked a question about Wynn.

Seriously, you can't be this stupid.

TC was asked a question about Wynn you nitwit. What, he was suppose to talk about Moore when he was asked about Wynn. Sorry though about calling you a nitwit. You're an idiot nitwit really.

Young man plays smart and knows his assignments. In looking up his draft profile average burst was noted which agrees with film review. May not be starter material but a solid back would be great for an undrafted rookie signing. Should note his profile indicates he was a team captain so he fits right in with our draft choices.

What did Wynn do???
Joey in VA : 12/16/2014 6:27 pm : link
He played fundamental football, and it's singled out because it's so rarely done under PF. He keeps himself parallel to the LOS and never completely goes upfield or turns his back on the play, even when blocked down, he maintains or "screws down" his position. Knowing you're being blocked and being able to hold space as Wynn does in photo #4 is fundamental stuff and he's doing it play after play, well in fact.

Ideally you mirror the hips of the person you're defending, think of two of those electric football blockers locked together and spinning in circles (ridiculous image I know) looking like they are doing a weird face to face dance. That's DE 101 stuff and our DEs don't stick to it enough. Play face up, head up to who you're defending and don't get caught up in the wash. It's foot speed and getting your body turned to make a player have to make a choice, he has to go around you and if others are playing the same way (it's essential against a zone running team like Wash) they provide no cut back lanes and those creases don't appear. It's a concerted effort, no freelancing and we see almost none of it week to week anymore.

We did it the best a few years ago in Houston when we throttled the TExans vaunted running game and buried Arian Foster. That was perfect front 7 assignment football and we almost never do that and we get run on quite easily because of it. If Wynn can do that, keep him by all means. He won't be a star but if he's solid DL depth who can play the run and get some heat on the QB he's worth his weight in gold.

Possibly, TC unhappy with Moore's work ethic, boneheaded plays, and wants to light a little fire under his ass. Didnt read the article, or it could just be a response to a specific question asked about Wynn

Over the progress Wynn is making that TC is pointing out. Its much more important to bitch about who he did not mention in order to fit into a constant anti-TC angle.

no offense, Montana, but this place is like BigCoughlinInteractive.

I myself am middle-of-the-road on Coughlin. I think he is a good HC but that it might be time to move on. I'm fine with his getting another year, but if I had to bet, i would bet the Giants will eventually have to "retire" him.

However, you can not voice any legitimate criticism of Coughlin without inciting the ire of a core group that defends everything that Coughlin does. It's kind of annoying because it shuts down discussion and prevents any good back and forth on the coaching staff.

I think people like Kepler are just responding in kind on the opposite side. He is ridiculing everything that Coughlin does instead of defending it. Two sides of the same coin as far as I'm concerned.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are posters here on BBI that have been here a very long time, hold Tom Coughlin in higher regard than the Giants as a franchise and team itself.

Whenever I read this;

I just think about Stan in LA trying to convince you all that Aaron Donald gets pushed around, and every pressure/sack he generates are all coverage sacks against QBs running around with stone buckets in their feet.

Yet, Donald is #2 rated DT in all of football per PFF, has 21 pressures, 7 sacks, 9 QB hits (took out Stanton) and he didnt even start the first 6 games of the year.

Donald sucks

and so does Stan in LA.

I actually watch football.

Almost everything I've ever written is either factual or rooted with truth.

Whether it is run run pass (see @ Cowboys, and vs Seattle) or coughlin running out ODB to run sprints in front of reporters to hedge backlash over how his injury was managed, it's all true.

How you want to recreate the narrative surrounding those things is completely up to you, I've given up on some of you because you are so clear blinded by your bias or lack of brain power. Obviously there are smarter people (see Oipolloi, shonuff) who actually comprehend reality but there are just too many who do not; I cannot help you all. Some of you are so miserable with your insistences between defending coughlin or that Aaron Donald sucks that you are simply unreachable even through wisdom or truth. I'm sorry.
