They were replaced on the roster by defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton, who was signed off the Giants’ practice squad, and offensive lineman Adam Gettis, signed off the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad.
is done with the Giants IMO. Not sure about Williams. He's been a liability in coverage, but good on ST, and we are thin at LB. Regardless, best wishes and a speedy recovery for both.
is a VERY athletic lineman who lacks size. The Steelers listed him as a guard, but he probably projects best to center.
I'm glad we have a chance to look at Gettis. You always need to "get lucky" with someone and maybe an off-season in the weight room will get him good enough to back-up Richburg at OC next year? Lets pray.... :)
Scholarship player... James Brewer... A guy that hung on the team for 4 seasons based on his draft position.
There is virtually ZERO Chance James Brewer is back with us for camp 2015. He is beyond terrible and has had plenty of time to show something and well he hasn't.
Brewer and Williams are UFAs anyway. Using a roster spot on a player who has less credited service can give the team control of him for the future. In Gettis's case, I think it's only two years, because he earned credit for 2012 and 2013 with Washington. We'll see whether they choose to retain him as an ERFA after the season.
Gettis is probably fodder, but I like the concept. The team could have coasted through Week 17 with Brewer and Williams on the roster but inactive. Instead, they are spending money to audition a live body.
Eric: I don't think Gettis is a center. If that were an option, the Redskins or Steelers would have tried it at some point. He's most likely a guard or nothing.
Hamilton becomes the sixth DT on the active roster. Â
I wonder if he might dress over some combination of Patterson, Kuhn and Jenkins. There doesn't seem to be much point in promoting Hamilton if they aren't going to give him some game action. Maybe he had an offer from another team? Or maybe they are just rewarding him for good work on the scout team.
FWIW, Kiper liked Gettis when Washington picked him. Â
I assume he's a goner, but I assumed the same thing about Tim Carter, Gerris Wilkinson and Sinorice Moss when their rookie deals ran out, and they all hung around another year.
I've seen some flashes from Mosley. Maybe it was wishful thinking. In three years as an oft-injured backup on a team with a terrible line, he has seldom missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
BTW, predicting that the black lineman will become a bouncer after football while his white teammate goes on to a career in auto repair? Hmmmm....
Eric: I stand corrected about Gettis as a potential center. Â
Apparently, the Redskins did consider it. He was waived a few months later when the team cut down to 75, so I guess the position switch wasn't enough to save him with the new regime. Gettis as a possible center in Washington? - ( New Window )
So, assume the following are locks to dress (barring further injuries): Hankins, Jenkins, Pierre-Paul, Wynn, Moore and Bromley. That leaves one shirt - possibly two - for Patterson, Kuhn and Hamilton. His recent promotion suggests that Hamilton migth dress at some point, though maybe not until Week 17.
Good. We could use a backup to Richburg next year
He's listed as 6'2'', 305lbs. Usually those guys end up at center.

So he gained 80 pounds (probably of muscle) in college?
Alex, I'll take the Under in the First PED Suspension category ;)

Discussion of Gettis starts at 2:10 - ( New Window )
I let Brewer go because he hasn't shown shit in 3 years. I suspect a career as a bouncer for him. That's a year too long in today's NFL.
I let Mosley know if he doesn't prove his worth in 2015, his auto repair career will get a jump start.
