I was thinking about this today. If you had the power to have Romo's pass connect with Miles Austin to eliminate us in 2011, if it meant the Giants finished off 2008 with a Super Bowl...would you sign for that?
2008 was an opportunity to be a dominant Super Bowl winning team which would have been back to back titles which is unheard of in this era of the NFL. We would have looked at that era of Giant football as a mini dynasty. Back to back titles is just incredible.
However, than you don't get 2011 which included ending the Jets & Cowboys season in back to back weeks. It included the first playoff win at Metlife. Going into Lambeau and winning a playoff game for the second time in 5 seasons & winning a classic defensive battle in SF. Not to mention beating Brady & Belichick AGAIN in the Super Bowl.
I wouldn't change anything, but it's just a fun hypothetical to think about.
The 2008 team was dominant for 3/4 of a season and it was really fun to watch and seeing them cap it off and win a Super Bowl like they did in 86 (which I was personally too young to witness live and remember) by just dominating from start to finish would have been awesome.. but something about that feeling I got on New Years Day in 2012 when I started thinking to myself "they're going to do it again..." was really special and to watch it unfold that way again is something I probably wouldn't trade in.
Beating the #1 AFC seed Patriots, Brady and Belichick, again...
Just too classic.
In 2008 we probably would have beat the Cardinals and Steelers... Just doesn't seem as epic to me, although beating the Steelers and Ben in the SB would have been sweet.
Plus, taking away 2011's title takes away from Eli's accomplishments (he was Alex Smith-ish in 2008 and the man in 2011), diminishes Victor Cruz's crazy rise and roll, takes a ring off Nicks (who even if he fell out, had a period of time when he was a damn good WR and Giant), and probably puts another title on Belichick and Brady's pile.
If they were an actual dynasty and had sustained greatness, maybe, but I don't particularly care about a "mini" dynasty angle either. The improbable magical runs, even if I can recognize them for being that, were absolutely amazing to experience as a fan.
Also, the fact that everyone called out Eli during training camp over the whole 'elite' thing...for him to have the season he had and win a Super Bowl was just awesome.
Nice thought.
I'm still going with the underdog 2011 team with Eli going ape-shit on the league that year. That year ended perfectly.
It would also mean a second ring for Burress. I assume this hypothetical scenario includes him not shooting himself, in which case I wouldn't begrudge him the second ring either.
How exactly do those guys deserve a second more than Nicks, Cruz, JPP, Ballard, Manningham, Weatherford, Canty, and Rolle deserved a first, given what they all contributed to that run?
I suppose you could just like that other group better and found more enjoyment in their play/success, but "deserve" doesn't really work, I don't think.
I will NEVER forgive that asshole.

Repeat champs? Fantastic. For me, though, the real appeal would be a second ring for Seubert, O'Hara, Toomer, Smith, Boss, Pierce, Robbins, Cofield, Feagles, Alford and others who deserved it.

Agreement
Read the title. Hypothetical.
BTW, a successful title defense in SB43 would also have been an extra bonus for the Tiki-haters.
Good thread btw.

winning it all with or without Plaxico. The d-line was shot.

I meant to quote Go Terps post in mine and didn't. I was responding to him never forgiving Plaxico.
Exactly. Another classic. What had the Pats won in a row in Foxboro? 23 games?
Too many classic games in 2011.
lol
But only slightly.
Hahaha
WHY DOES PERRY SIT BACK IN COVERAGE
WHY IS PERRY NEVER BLITZ
WHY PERRY THIS
WHY PERRY THAT
Perry blitz-zero'd on that play, and we were one backyard float pass away from losing.
WHY PERRY
WHY
Also, the Giants have never repeated
Shhhh, not a word.
Losing in 2008 sucked, especially to the Eagles in the playoffs but the 2011 run legitimized Eli Manning as an all time Giant.
Repeat and take one away from Ben. Let Brady win in 11.
I would have been fine missing the Super bowl in 07 too if we went on to dominate and win and beat Ben after a great 2008 regular season and then win again in 2011
That's really cool

Put down the bottle. 2007 will never in a million years be topped. Beating an 18-0 team can't be topped.
Mostly desolation and sadness for over 15 years.
2007 SB win; 2011 SB win; 2015?
The years of Odell's prime.
Then the Giants were fired up facing the Packers in the divisional round and knew the refs had the same plan in store for them. Giants responded like crazy and beat the shit out of the Packers AND the refs. The refs clearly tried but were unable to cheat-calls often enough to give the Packers the game.
I LOVED that game.
