NFL Head Coach Job Openings

ray in arlington : 12/16/2014 10:36 pm
What HC jobs will be available? Here's my take:

No doubt keep: NE, BUF, PIT, CIN, BAL, IND, HOU, SD, KC, DEN, DAL, PHI, DET, GB, NO, STL, ARI, SEA

Probable keep: CLE, NYG, MIN, CAR

Probable gone: MIA, JAC, CHI, ATL, SF, WAS, TEN, TB

No doubt gone: NYJ, OAK

Really not sure on the 1-year guys with bad records like TEN, TB and WAS.

I think the a absolutes are:
Ben in Tampa : 12/16/2014 10:40 pm : link
Oak
NYJ
SF
WAS

And the maybes are:

ATL
CHI
MIA
NO
And I suppose NYG is a maybe
Ben in Tampa : 12/16/2014 10:41 pm : link
But that would be a more gentle "retirement"' not a firing
re

I didn't think Sean Payton had a chance of being fired. Are you hearing something from down there?
I don't think
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 10:48 pm : link
Jacksonville is going to fire their HC. He gets another year.

Philbin is 50/50 imo
and
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 10:48 pm : link
SF should be in the no doubt gone category. Same with Chicago
Marvin Lewis
larryinnewhaven : 12/16/2014 10:50 pm : link
just enough not to get fired every year. Has there ever been a worse longer tenured coach?

If they don't win a playoff game this year I think he gets canned.
Just rumblings, but I think it has more to do
Ben in Tampa : 12/16/2014 10:52 pm : link
With the Michigan job being open. I also think Peter King (?) was reporting he may be looking to move on. I think he'd be the longest shot to get canned, but I do have a lot of friends and some family in NOLA and it seems like the tide is turning on him. A few years ago that would be unthinkable.
the Bengals
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 10:53 pm : link
gave him a one year extension last year so he wasn't a lame duck, but I think he has to win a playoff game this year to get another extension. Otherwise he's a goner
i guess i'm so used to CIN keeping marvin lewis
ray in arlington : 12/16/2014 10:59 pm : link
I didn't give it much thought.
Brown
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 11:03 pm : link
is incredibly patient or incredibly cheap, or both. But I just can't see them giving him another one year extension, and I also don't think you can give him a long term extension if he gets bounced in the first round or doesn't make the playoffs this year. If they didn't give him a long term extension after last year i see no way they do it this year if they dont get to the divisional round
agree on Jax
MattHofstra : 12/16/2014 11:19 pm : link
as bad as they are, they seem to play hard..the talent there is just so bad on offense and aside from some bright spots on the line, not much on defense...they've stayed in some games here and there though and I think Bradley gets another year there

I think Trestman and Philbin probably get another season also. Chicago is terrible, but their defense was decimated by injuries and Cutler has been abysmal
I would
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 11:20 pm : link
be absolutely shocked if Trestman got another year.
unless
MattHofstra : 12/16/2014 11:21 pm : link
Payton leaves, I doubt he would be in danger...I think Mike Smith gets canned
Trestman is gone.
arcarsenal : 12/16/2014 11:22 pm : link
That whole thing turned into a flaming fucking car wreck.
I also think Mike Smith is gone.
arcarsenal : 12/16/2014 11:22 pm : link
.
I'm not so sure Lovie will get sent packing, though.
arcarsenal : 12/16/2014 11:24 pm : link
This was his first year. That team sucks but did they really expect much more than this?
I was just reading
MattHofstra : 12/16/2014 11:25 pm : link
that Trestman was likely to get canned..I figured 8-8 last season and a down year this year, he'd get a 3rd year as a make or break but I guess not
no chance
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 11:27 pm : link
on Lovie getting fired. Especially when they gave him zero quarterback.
Wisenhunt
MookGiants : 12/16/2014 11:28 pm : link
isn't getting fired, either. Guys don't get fired after one year no matter how bad it is unless they have clueless owners.
Lovie stays
MattHofstra : 12/16/2014 11:30 pm : link
guy has had a load of crap at QB
Whisenhunt
MattHofstra : 12/16/2014 11:34 pm : link
won't get canned, but his history as head coach developing QB's has been pretty terrible
Lovie is staying
MaineGiantFan : 12/16/2014 11:56 pm : link
Tampa Bay would be paying 3 HC salaries otherwise
Trestman is toast
dpinzow : 12/16/2014 11:57 pm : link
And there's a chance Emery (the GM) is also gone
Da Bears are a shambles - ( New Window )
Philbin has to be out
MaineGiantFan : 12/17/2014 12:00 am : link
Im curious what will happen with Tannehill
Thought I saw somewhere that Gruden
JayBinQueens : 12/17/2014 12:11 am : link
was going to be back next year for Wash....
...
SanFranGiantsFan : 12/17/2014 7:00 am : link
I can't imagine Lovie Smith getting the boot after one season.

Mike Smith is a goner. Harbaugh likely will leave SF. Ryan is gone from the Jets.
Gruden is in year one
Walt in MD : 12/17/2014 7:47 am : link
of a 5 year deal. I dont think Snyder will get rid of him yet.
Gruden is back next year...
drkenneth : 12/17/2014 7:48 am : link

Rumors down here he Philbin is a goner. He seems to be grestly respected around the league but there's just something about him that makes me think he's just isn't a very good head coach.

Is it possible that folks are mixing this up with John Gruden staying at ESPN?
Smith and Whisenhunt are not going anywhere
jeff57 : 12/17/2014 8:56 am : link
Bradley probably will stay. If Philbin wins his last 2 games, I think he stays. Unless Harbaugh becomes available at a reasonable cost.
Chi papers
old man : 12/17/2014 10:34 am : link
say Trestman's a goner.
I can't see dumping the J'ville coach; a young team w/a rookie QB, and competitive in at least 9 of 14 games, and had they held on vs Philly week 1, who knows, they might be 6-8/ 7-7.
Philbin and Smith
rasbutant : 12/17/2014 12:32 pm : link
are good coaches.

If, big if, Coughlin goes, I would think they 2 would make the list of possible replacements.
SF gone
giantfanboy : 12/17/2014 1:05 pm : link
if SF coach is gone
he automatically goes to another team
so in a sense it is a push in terms of HC job openings
Gruden is staying...
